Teaching Faculty Wannabe

I don’t know with Berkeley in particular, but I would let them know that you can’t make it to the visitation. Maybe with that, you can learn more about Berkeley by talking with professors and current grad student on the phone or on Skype. But I would definitely let them know that you wish you could go, but have other plans already. However, you would still really love to learn more about the program. Good luck, and congrats on all your acceptances!

Aw thanks! I guess the cool thing about grad school though is that we get to try working with new topics, even if it wasn’t our undergrad specialty :) 
And it’s really not as fancy as it sounds!  80% of it is just calibrating whatever you built lol.

February is an interesting month - I've got a conference at the end of the month I'm looking forward to + tons of school events going on, but I've heard radio silence from my programs (which, as I've learned, is semi-expected, since Statistics programs really start digging into their applications around this time). So I'm imagining that February will be full of a lot of news, hopefully some good! 
@Moods Oof, it sounds like February is going to be pretty rough - I bet you'll get through it just fine, and even stronger as a person! Good reminder about self-care, it's something I forget so much during times of stress. Even radical self care is helpful (make time to take showers and brush teeth even if it feels like the world is falling down!!) 

This February is going to be a trip for sure. It will be the one year deathiversary of my dog , which also happens to be my birthday. Additionally, Valentine’s Day, which is one of my least favorite holidays. I just really hate the color pink and being single doesn’t help either, but all those who enjoy it, I hope you do! And then on top of that, I’ll probably will be receiving some rejections. I shouldn’t complain since I have an acceptance, but it will still sting. Good luck to you all and don’t forget self-care when you need it!

I got my first in-person interview! I am sooooo excited! YAY! I was definitely losing hope there.

A WHOLE MOOD! ugh. they're now a full week or so later and im just ugh. I'd rather know im rejected that wait in limbo *sigh* most of my schools apart from UW and (hopefully) upcoming UCSB dont have solid trends either, so Im feeling the limbo grind rip

I just noticed you have an acceptance! Congrats! 

I think it will definitely be tough getting back into the groove of work and classes and research, but my plan is to start learning new more about my research interests by reading research papers and watching YouTube videos. I’ve also started a science communication blog and Instagram blog so I can gain some connections and also learn more about the PhD experience so I can mentally prepare myself. But we honestly won’t really know until we start. But I feel like my first years of grad school would have been worse if I started right after undergrad, and it seems like it would have been the same for you. I was so unmotivated by the time I graduated, it would have been so bad to start off a new adventure that way, in my opinion. And yes, we did manage through undergrad, so we can get through grad school! Good luck to us! 

I am not sure if it will lower your chances, but I think visiting the school would be a good experience. Seeing the campus will allow you to envision yourself there. You want to like the place where you will be spending 4-5 years at. It sucks that they won't cover the expenses of the trip, though.
However, they seem interested in you, so I don't think video chatting with them instead will lower your chances.

So I was just invited to “Grad Visit Day” for a school that I applied to, but have not heard anything from them of whether or not I got in. Does anyone know what this might be and/or have been invited to a similar event without being accepted. 

Oh my goodness! I relate to this so much! I applied to nine, nada from any of them so far. I have looked at the results and people are already getting interviews, acceptances, and rejections from some of the schools I applied to. I just want to hear something. ANYTHING! I wasn’t eating all that well either nor sleeping well. I have to force myself to relearn self-care, like yoga and meditating and drinking tea and getting enough sleep, but it’s still hard.?

I am definitely am on the same boat as you. I applied to PhD programs to University of Florida and University of Michigan for biomedical engineering and Cal Tech for medical engineering, and they have interviews and I didn't get invited. :'''''''((((( I am sure there are others schools that I don't know about, too.
I honestly don't know what that means when this happens, but I am still trying to be hopeful. I am going to keep my head up (with tears in my eyes) until they tell me that I have been rejected.

Is this not the place to express all the stresses? Just gettin it out my dude so I dont annoy my friends lol

Relax. He’s just posting his thoughts on an anonymous message board while he waits for results, just like everyone else is doing. It doesn’t require therapy or an intervention with family members.
