  1. I was in a very similar situation to you last year as, while applying to PhD programs, I had to explain why my pre-med gpa was bringing down my whole GPA. One avenue you might wish to consider is *highlighting* your scientific background as that professor said to you. It's not as much of a deal with the literary aspects of classics, but on the historical side of it the incorporation of scientific evidence is becoming more and more important to the field. Advertising that you are well-trained to handle this data (especially if you can find a way to incorporate it into the "project" you're pitching in your application) could be very good for you.
  2. Finally got some good news: I was admitted to Central European University's MA program in Late Antique, Medieval, and Renaissance Studies with a full tuition waiver, so it looks like I'll be in Vienna for the next two years. After a 4 month slog of non-stop disappointment, it's nice to end my season with some good news.
  3. I see that NYU has sent out some rejections, but has it sent out *all* its rejections? It's March 19th, so I'm presuming the total lack of communication is reflective of an oncoming rejection, but it just seems odd that I've heard nothing at all at this point given that others were rejected more than a week ago.
  4. Did anyone else apply to Ohio State? Have you heard back from them yet? I was put on the waitlist back in late January and am curious if anyone else has accepted/declined their offer from OSU.
  5. Does anyone know if Brown has only sent out acceptances via personal email with POI's so far? In other words, if we haven't received one of those emails, is there still hope that our POI just doesn't send out personal e-mails and is content with just letting official e-mails announce results, or can we assume that we won't be getting an acceptance?
  6. Did anyone else apply to Ohio State and has heard back from them?
  7. The wait for Ohio State's letters to come out is killing me. I feel good about my application, but to see every department in the humanities seemingly already having released their results EXCEPT for classics is going to be the death of me.
  8. For what it's worth, when I met the director of Graduate Studies while visiting Harvard (he's who I'm hoping for as an advisor) he maintained that they were taking about 20ish people in the program. This was in late October. Perhaps something has drastically changed since then, but every other professor I met was very upfront about the possibility that the cohort might be downsized but he said nothing of the sort.
  9. Hey everyone, after a bit of lurking I finally decided to make an account here. I'm mostly applying to History programs, but since my speciality is ancient-history and byzantine studies, I'm also applying to a few classics programs. OSU at this point is what I'm hoping for so that I can work with Antony Kaldellis.
