Just got an email that I got the tuition waiver + the stipend at Villanova! Will be confirming my acceptance of the offer tonight!

Great thread, I add myself to the list of people who declined an acceptance (offer was only partially funded unfortunately). It turned out for the best, I took a year to both adjunct and work with students in an adviser job (this helped me both replenish my bank account and fund this second round of applications). I actually re-applied to the same program and this time they were able to offer me full funding and I will be attending there in the fall. Sometimes things don't pan out exactly like you want them to, but if you keep at it you can make it work. The program I'm going to is a great fit for me and that extra year working will help me out a ton.  

Please collect and share all info you glean!

It's looking like U Michigan for me, barring a status change on waitlists. 

That IS rude. I’m so sorry that you are both experiencing this. 
But I think in the end you just can’t know why they aren’t responding. Maybe they don’t know the answer and they are waiting until they do. Maybe they do have an answer but it’s their policy to notify applicants in groups. Maybe they thought they did respond, but the email didn’t send correctly. Maybe it is just a crappy department. 
In any case, it’s not okay that you haven’t heard back. I hope that you do soon!

Ugh, this is unfortunately exactly how I'm feeling. Like maybe I've learned more about the department from their silence. Makes me wary to actually inquire about other things. Good luck to you as well, sorry we're in this weird boat!

Was in a similar situation! The school I loved during application season has been so unresponsive (I’m waitlisted too) compared to other schools I’m waitlisted at that it’s made me question if I want to go. The other schools have welcomed, questions, calls, and visits, which have been so helpful and made me feel so welcome. Like one school said, it’s really a reflection of their department and how they operate if they aren’t responsive. How it starts is how it ends. Personally, I’m still trying to get in touch with mine bc is actually like to learn a bit about the dept.. but I also feel like maybe I’ve learned everything I need by this silence. Maybe reach out again and ask something specific? Good luck!

I just think of the dread and hope I felt being on waitlists. Makes it easier to send out those emails.

It’s a mix. You’ll be fine in whatever you wear, as long as it isn’t sweats or an evening gown. 

Will probably be Texas (Austin). I did my undergrad at Texas, but there's been a significant time gap. So now I will Texas my Texas again in Texas.

still deciding between UMass Amherst and Buffalo ? I'm talking to several professors on the phone this week at UMass because they don't have a prospective students event, which is really throwing me decision off! I hope that plus the April 2-3 visit to Buffalo will help me decide. it truly feels like a 50/50 coin toss.

Seems like they think you have not done enough work in advanced literature study. Perhaps an MA in English would bridge the gap.
I didn’t know some schools did this, I would have really appreciated this response in the past, even if it seems like the answer are vague.

waiting for the official letter, but from Southern Illinois - Carbondale - "You have been admitted, and we plan to offer you a teaching position as a Graduate Assistant. I will send you the offer letter and details soon."
 
!!!!! This is where my favorite scholar (should I have a favorite scholar? what if she thinks i'm a dumbass? what if i'm actually a dumbass?) teaches and where one of my mentor/LOR writers earned their PhD!
