    Just got my Emory rejection. It was a very fancy letter on letterhead and signed. Oooh, ahhh. (Emailed attachment.) It hurts but not as much as UCSB because I already knew since February that I didn't get in when I wasn't invited to the welcome weekend. Sigh. Please, PhD Program? PLEASEEEE?

    I keep bursting into tears at work. I quite literally feel as if I'm an infant. Ugh. Tomorrow's the day I email everyone though. I'm thinking 4pm Eastern so that they have an hour or two to see that I emailed and reply. ... Right? ;)

      It's normal and healthy to cry; you're not an infant, you're an adult who is going through a very difficult process. I hope good news comes soon to dry the tears!

      I know this process is tough, but it's not the toughest thing in the world. :) You got this. Think about people who could never dream of attending grad school. and how you have that opportunity. :) Good luck!

    Thank you. I'm sure it would help, but (and I won't really know for sure until I get the official offer in 2 weeks), it seems like I won't be able to afford it without accruing debt which would basically be as if I never paid of (x amount) of my undergraduate loans. If that makes sense. Hopefully the funding will be great and everything will be okay... I just don't know. My self esteem/confidence/hope in humanity/hope for any sort of miracle is totally shot. (Miracles still welcome.)

      Yeah, this morning. :( Rejection from one of my top 5. I also did some "analysis" or whatever for my remaining programs (here: http://bit.ly/ymKcaU) and I don't think it looks good.

      Awww, keep hope alive girlie. Lets wait to hear from the other programs and call them on Friday, like you said. If anything, you can do the MA (for which you're accepted) and work out the financial kinks (I see some good advice from one of the posters).

    Literally broke down and burst into tears in the middle of my office, went into the ladies room and cried for a good ten minutes. Make it stop. Is an acceptance so hard?* Edit: *PhD acceptance

    Does anyone have any insight into UVA/when they will be sending out acceptances/so on? I haven't contacted them but maybe some of you have?

    Got rejected from a school I really wanted to get into and this is how I feel: Like nothing. Not smart. Not intelligent. Who was I kidding? Maybe my UG professors inflated my grades and gave me straight As for... I don't know why, but whatever, it doesn't matter if they think/thought I'd be a good scholar. It doesn't matter how much damn work I've put into what I do so far. It doesn't matter that I love this field and the work I do in it. This program, and at least four others like it (though it's not official yet), don't understand that, and don't care, and don't want me in their program. ARGH.

    Last year, UMICH's art history department had a finalist weekend in February. Does anyone know if they repeated that this year? There are a few wait list notifications for this year but no one has posted any acceptances or rejections, or indicated about a finalist weekend.

    I think it depends on each individual school and program. It wouldn't hurt to ask if the funding is first come first serve and/or if they have a specific date they'd prefer to hear back from you by. That's what I did.

    Hello, UCSB rejection. Drove out there, met with POI, was excited about it, etc. etc. it's my husband's top choice... Not feelin' great. Thanks, UCSB.

      Not yet. I want to wait until EOD Friday and then I'll email like a madwoman. I just got a rejection from UCSB this morning.

    Still nothing! Well, except for 2 programs (1 rejection, 1 acceptance), but with 13 programs, that's basically nothing.
