I wouldn’t say no interview is necessarily a bad sign; I wasn’t asked to provide much additional information. I got “hypothetically invited” conditional on my acceptance (which was implied but not outright like yours) so I didn’t want to ask $ details. But travel reimbursement would be GREAT. Yeah, I straight forwardly told them I was a low income student and wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.
