hi everyone!

late to the thread but i was accepted and am enrolled in the fall 2021 2 year full time program! can’t wait to meet everyone :) i applied in late December, completed mid-january, and heard back in February 18 that i was accepted! i didn’t have an interview. i was told we will get a “welcome packet” in April but i’m impatient and just want to register for classes, know my field work placement, etc. ugh

godspeed to everyone and can’t wait for the fall!

Congrats to everyone that's found out they've been accepted so far!!

On another note, does anyone know what they're doing in terms of housing yet?? That's a big worry for me currently!

And another question! Does anyone here in the full-time 2 year program think they'll try to work a small weekend job?

Hey! Are you sure it was the last day? When I contacted admissions, they told me that they were sending out more invitations to interview this week (since I have moved to "pending interview").

I still haven't received a follow-up email for interviews. I tried to schedule mine as soon as I was sent the email but literally all the spots were taken, but my application status still says "pending interview" so not sure what's happening here.

i'm tossing around the idea of a weekend job myself... i think it will depend on whether i can afford to live on the financial aid package from the university. i spoke to someone who is a current student in the program while i was working on my application, and she said that she and most of her fellow students have some kind of a job (for her it's tutoring one girl on the weekend). i might try to do some freelance transcribing, but nothing with too much of a time commitment. i think it's about whether weighing the money you'll get from a part-time job is worth the loss of time for studying and recuperation/leisure.

as for housing, i'll be living off campus, sorry i can't be of more help there!

Some ppl reach out and were able to schedule interviews that way.

I definitely hope to have some sort of part time job while in school. It'll be tough since field placement+class become essentially a full-time job, but hopefully weekends or something in the evenings would work. It all depends on what kind of aid I can get.

I'll be living off campus, but I already live in NYC so that's not so helpful, sorry! Will you be moving from outside of NY?

I finally got an email back, this is what they said. Let's hope this week ?

"We are adding new dates to the interview schedule as quickly as we can.  As soon as we have more dates you will receive an email with regards to scheduling an interview."

Did anyone who committed to hunter receive a email about securing a spot? Lol . It’s not a typo

Okay I figured it out hunter waived deposit because of COVID. So when you accept a offer you not enrolled until they receive a deposit on tuition. Since there is no deposit they are sending an additional form (acknowledgment form) in place of it. This form holds your spot for fall 2021 rosters. Once you send that back you get a response that your welcome package will arrive in April etc.

Happy for everyone that heard back!

I interviewed a week ago and my status still says "pending interview." Did this ever change for anyone else? Should I bother asking? It's making me nervous that my answers and writing sample have been overlooked because the system isn't aware that I did interview already

I think they're doing final reviews in batches, which can only be so big.

So when you finished and submitted your writing assignment, when your interviewer could submit their notes, and the timing of those things for other applicants probably all has a bearing on which batch you're in. So it's fully possible you're in this week's batch of final reviews.

But you shouldn't be waiting TOO long after the assignment/interview. If it helps, I've interviewed and submitted my assignment, and my portal still says "pending interview" too. I think it'll probably just say that until I get accepted/denied.

I applied and got into both, and while Hunter is a no brainer as far as cost goes (at least for us in-staters!), I ultimately decided to go with NYU. I don't have any profound reasons for this decision. I don't know for a fact that it has a better clinical program, but I just have a gut feeling it's a better fit for me and for my goals.

Anyone here applied to both Hunter and NYU? I'm trying to decide between these two programs am really torn. Which one would you say is more psychodynamic and more clinically focused? NYU offered me a scholarship and I'll be paying out of state if I choose Hunter so there's not much of a difference in terms of tuition. I'd appreciate any input!

I got accepted to NYU and i'm "pending interview" for hunter. I'm really hoping to get into Hunter because I live in NYC and there's such a big difference in tuition.

A mentor who went to NYU told me that she went to NYU because it had a better clinical program but she said both programs are good and at the end will get MSW so she didn't think it made too big of difference.

It's been really great participating in all of NYU admitted student events. I was able to sit in a class taught by Professor Amanda Mays and now I am very tempted to accept the NYU admission.

I submitted my application date for hunter 12/22/2020 and my application was completed 1/7/2021. It's frustrating to have to wait so long... I had to ask NYU to extend my decision twice.

has anyone who has been accepted received a financial aid package yet, what was the timeframe on that like?

so i don't think that you should be too concerned about this - during my interview session (last tuesday 3/23), the person who conducted our interview said we shouldn't even expect to hear back until next week. you're still within that timeframe!

That is frustrating. Have you tried contacting them and asking about scheduling the interview? It does seem to move things along sometimes.

Thanks for the feedback! NYU are indeed very good with recruiting events. I'm still very torn, though. I know that Hunter lets you focus on a clinical pathway from the very beginning instead of doing one generalized year like in other programs and that sounds very appealing to me, though I'm not sure what the implications of that actually are.

Yes, that is what is going on. I already did that and they also told me I would receive a welcome package in April. I have also been activated to claim my CUNYFirst account. I did it and now waiting until they give the green light for enrollment.

Hey @britonline! I think we may have been in the same interview :D (Rachel!)

I didn't get a financial aid package yet and when I reached out to ask, they responded about scholarships. So it's not clear to me whether the need-based fin aid falls under scholarships or not. I'll keep you updated on what I hear, but definitely didn't get any info upon being granted admission. Also, I'm going to be paying out-of-state tuition my first year (though it sounds like I will be able to pay in-state tuition after having lived there a year), so I don't know if that factors in at all.

Has anyone else had any luck getting info about financial aid? Esp those of you who have chosen to enroll?

hello rachel! yes, i was the brit/britney in that tuesday 1PM interview! lol. congrats on your acceptance! i'm in the same boat re: the out-of/in-state situation. what did they say in regards to scholarship, if you don't mind my asking?

have you chosen to accept? remind me, did you apply for the 2 yr full-time track?

They said:

"In order to determine eligibility, 21-22 FAFSA must be on file. Scholarships are offered through the academic departments. We encourage students to contact their academic department for opportunities available. In addition, please review the link below to our Scholarship Homepage for more information."

The scholarship homepage linked was the general Hunter one, and wasn't super helpful in answering my questions though I may try to dig deeper. I responded to them and hopefully they'll get back with a clearer answer.

And I'm still deciding but feeling pretty set on accepting. I'm deciding between Hunter and NYU (haven't heard back from Columbia but it's not my top choice), but all the feedback I've gotten is that if you're queer and into social justice and not just tryna go directly into private practice, Hunter is the move. Not to mention the difference in cost!!

I interviewed last week and I was told that they would let me know by April 1st the latest because I have to deposit for BU otherwise. But I have heard nothing and I emailed and tried the online chat but there was no one. It's just kind of frustrating that their application timeline is so long and slow compared to other schools.
