Ohhhh makes sense. Maybe some people were confusing OISE with UTSC - U of T technically has like 4 psychotherapy/counselling/clinical programs, 2 of which are clinical programs (one at OISE and one at UTSC) researching and comparing programs at U of T was a nightmare hahahaha Edited January 5, 2022 by carlrogersfan98 psyc2122 and T.O.hopeful 2
emsmith Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Good luck to everyone who is getting interviews! Does anyone have any good interview prep/resources they would be willing to share? There's a lot online for general PhD programs, but not a lot for clinical psych. No results posted yet for any of the programs I applied to but the nerves are getting high ? trying not to freak out thinking 'are people getting interviews for these programs but nobody is posting about it?' I know it's still early but it's so easy to obsess over it. carlrogersfan98 and space-psych 2

I feel that ? as for interview tips, I've been prepping for the one I've got so far by asking around in my network for people who have gone through the process. I've DM'ed a few people in the 2020 Counselling Psychology Canada thread who posted that they interviewed at the same school, and my friend has a friend currently in the program and she introduced me to them so they could share their tips! I find this the most useful because schools might take a unique approach to their interviews - it may be more casual, they may be looking for something specific, they may focus more on interpersonal questions as opposed to professional questions, etc. emsmith 1
clinicalpsychhopeful5 Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Does anyone know if getting an email that says "your application is still under review" has any relevance re interviews?
Terelia Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 School: York (Clinical-Developmental Psychology Program) Date of invite: January 5 Date of interview: TBD, some time the week of the 24th (with POI: JW), January 28 (open house) It was a direct email for the POI and they said more details would come about the open house. I suspect invites will be coming out on a rolling basis from now until the 28th for York so there's still lots of time if you haven't got one yet! I also received an interview invite for the Developmental Psychology program at Queens just after Christmas (POI: EK) - not directly relevant to this forum but it may be helpful for others who applied to that program. I tried to share as much information as I could so hopefully this helps! Good luck everyone! SoundofSilence, prospectivegradstudent21, OhPsych and 5 others 7 1

Psyched12345 Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Hi! Has anyone heard from Guelph, Calgary, Western, Ryerson or McMaster? Uni17 1

I know it's still early but it's so easy to obsess over it. Mitch's guide is a classic (https://mitch.web.unc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/4922/2017/02/MitchGradSchoolAdvice.pdf) and questions will probably be similar to the general psych PhD programs, with the only difference being the clinical relevant questions. So I would have a brief answer on "why do you want to be a clinical psychologist" and "why is clinical training important to your professional goals". Also "why clinical and not experimental". I would also have in mind some examples for interpersonal questions since those skills are relevant for future clinical work. You can never be 100% prepared for an interview, but having some idea of what they might ask can help. Also, most of us are probably quite anxious this time of the year, so remember you are not alone This thread can be a good source of support or just a safe place to vent if you need to. Best of luck and hope this helps! emsmith and lemonsqueezy 1 1

T.O.hopeful Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 I had an informal pre-interview for UTSC. If anyone wants to DM me for info related to timelines/next steps, happy to provide. I know how stressful the waiting game can be but I'm not fully comfortable putting out certain information directly on the forum? So just DM me if interested. carlrogersfan98, alinpsych, SoundofSilence and 2 others 5
clinicalpsychhopeful5 Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 School: Ryerson (Clinical Psychology) Date of invite: January 5 Date of interview: February 11 (meeting with POI followed by a meeting with staff, post-docs, and grad students) I got a direct email from the POI. I didn't have an informal interview with them and it seems like the interview may be combined with interview day? This is my first time interviewing with this school so if anyone has some insight please let me know! Also feel free to message me for POI initials SoundofSilence, T.O.hopeful, PeanutButterBread and 3 others 6

This is my second cycle, I absolutely felt that way last year. Two things: 1.) it's still the first week back from winter break, most schools are just sending invites now and probably will for the next couple of weeks - some not even till February, and 2.) it's super common things don't work out for the first cycle! Knock on wood that you're successful this time, but if they don't work out, please do not take that as a sign of incompetence and just know it's SO so common. I had to wrestle those feelings last year and I know it's easier said than done! Edit: third thing - I know with Omicron spreading so fast some schools have extended their winter breaks so perhaps this has delayed some emails being sent! Edit: third thing - I know with Omicron spreading so fast some schools have extended their winter breaks so perhaps this has delayed some emails being sent! I also want to pipe in on the holiday break. I'm a current program student and I can tell you my advisor(s) started emailing me back today, late afternoon - for things that I emailed over the break and ongoing things that need some pretty urgent attention. They are JUST getting back to their computers and have to play catch up with the 12 000 emails they missed and get their bearings. Likely admission committees will be coming together soon - but often the actual POI you are hoping reads your application and reaches out to you doesn't even know your application exists yet. It has nothing to do with your application, they just aren't there yet. Give it some time. Then the whole fiasco with omicron and lots of schools have shifted online, some activities had to apply for exemptions for in-person, last-minute faculty meetings to figure it out. It's a mess. It will take a hit on delaying everything. I truly do get how anxiety-inducing this waiting limbo season is - I don't anything has remotely compared to how anxious I felt this time last year, but I hope this helps at least one person even feel a little better. siriuslypadfoot, Terelia, T.O.hopeful and 5 others 5 3
