funology Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 MIT acceptances are out, they took 12 students out of 200+ applications. It's been a rough season all around. Hope you all get some more news tomorrow

twoforonespecial Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Congratualtions PhDreaming!!! I see you're from Boulder. Any word on their admission process/timeline/funding? (not that you'd know but...) I'd love to know too!!
txelizabeth Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 txelizabeth at least you are IN to one school--- I know, and I'm really grateful. It's just disappointing that I may get rejected by all the rest of my schools. I'm still hoping for good news from UMich though. *fingers crossed*
travgrad Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Does anyone know if it is okay that I haven't heard a yay or a nay from UMich dual PhD in Ling and Romance Languages and Literatures? Very specific question, but I thought I would ask... Thanks for the welcome!!
travgrad Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 txelizabeth, it appears we have our hopes in the same dual phd program... maybe we'll both be accepted?? good luck!! txelizabeth 1
LinguisticMystic Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Just got my first "official" email. But it's not an acceptance or rejection or anything I didn't already know. Just an email to notify me that I'm a finalist & they're still figuring out funding. Going crazy! So happy for everyone that's gotten good news!

I see people posted rejections from UW.
radioalfredio Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Ahh... so that email was from UW I'm guessing. Are you two applying for the MA program or the PhD? I wasn't rejected and I didn't get that email. Whatever that means... I'm applying for the PhD, btw. I already have an MA.
Ling304 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Northwestern decisions are online in your accounts, folks... good luck. Mine isn't. It still says: "An admissions decision has not yet been rendered". Going crazy.

Ling304 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Oh, and - Funology, you do have awesome acceptances, congrats!!
elizabethrose14 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Congrats to everyone who got good news today!!
LinguisticMystic Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Yes, I applied to UW's MA program as well & got that e-mail. At least one person applying for their PhD program got the same sort of e-mail, though, it looks like. This is making the wait that much more unpleasant. Hah.
Triple Tall Cappuccino Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 According to the results search, Georgetown should have sent something by now. The wait is killing me. What is taking them so long!?!?! >.< And yes, congrats to all those with wonderful news this week! Hopefully the week will end on a pleasant note...
busbus Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Well, UCLA rejected me. :-( Congrats to those of you who got in.
Reddawg50 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 rejected from UCLA, too-- they sent the email around 3:00am their local time! i found that odd... it seems i should not have applied to any schools that lean theoretical linguistics, they've all rejected me. pray for me for the other programs! lol

You didn't apply to Georgetown? I think they have a good applied linguistics program. I'm more into the theoretical side myself ( phonetics & phonology) though I'm also into the experimental side (phonetics) and sociolinguistics.
Reddawg50 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 no, I didn't apply to Georgetown-- probably should have. My background is second language acquisition, and language & thought... which is probably why I got an interview with Johns Hopkins but no where else so far. It sort of makes sense, although it sucks, that if you have 180 applications for 10 spots, you eliminate people who don't have a BA in theoretical linguistics.
