Xxjunitoxx Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) Hey, my hunter app just says "being reviewed". It changed today. I just want to know how long would I have to wait for a decision. I already had my interview. I think it went great but I still want to know if I am in or not. This waiting is driving me crazy. Lol Edited March 13, 2013 by Xxjunitoxx

bbergstrom Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Where you applying for advanced standing or oyr? I applied for advanced standing. 2 year program not advanced standing.. but i know someone in our group was advanced standing and already found out.
kmed Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 What I got from UC Berkeley: "Thank you for your interest in the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare MSW Program. Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot offer you admission to our program. Each year we receive many more qualified applicants than spaces allocated by the state. We wish you the best of luck on all your future academic endeavors." Well...I guess that's that. I'm waiting for UCLA.... @Rho86: What was the concentration you applied for?

I got my rejection almost 2 weeks after the interview. They really do look for some type of social work experience, so not sure why I was invited to the interview, but still feels good that they even considered me. I bet you did great!!

I was rejected at Penn for likely the same reason (it wasn't an academic reason, that's for sure!) It looks like experience/academics is the right combination. Sorry you were rejected; I was glad to be considered at Penn but there are other options!

I found out I was accepted exactly 1 week after my interview by logging into the website.
nm0511 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Is anyone applying to u. south carolina, georgia, alabama, west virginia, or tulane? I'm still waiting to hear back from all of them

nxl040904 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) I am on the same boat, loans seem to be the only option. I'm trying to research possible loan forgiveness programs in NYU that we could take advantage of....so far no luck... I'm just torned, I graduated from my undergrad with dept and adding more to it just doesn't sound like the smartest thing to do :/ Best of luck!!!! My husband was accepted to both Columbia and NYU msw program. We are from LA and moved to NYC for him to go to Columbia. I now work for Columbia University, my husband is finishing his last year, and my bosses are social workers from Hunter, NYU and Columbia. Per everyone I work with and Husband - GO TO HUNTER!!!! You are paying for the name (Columbia or NYU)! The basic foundation of every program is the same. Every social worker generally will top off at the same pay but if you choose to go to the expensive school be ready to be in debt longer than your colleagues. I am really glad my husband did the MSW first because now since I have been in NYC I have met lots of people from these universities, got to work for Columbia therefore got to really see what each university was really about. I came to a consensus to apply to Hunter, CSULB,CSULA and CSUN, which I have already been accepted to two. If you have any question about the move to NYC, please let me know. If you are looking for a new experience and to take yourself out of your comfort zone, NYC is the best place to do it. Oh and by the way my husband too had debt from his first masters in LA....so adding the debt from Columbia....we are looking at being in debt for about 25 years using the government repayment plan....and loan forgiveness....yeah we are looking into it too. These programs are what made us decide to go for the NYC move but in hindsight we would have chosen a less expensive school. Anyway, let me know if you have any questions. Thank you so much for all of this great info! Unfortunately, I did not end up applying to hunter and am kind of kicking myself now! haha I am so excited about getting into NYU though and I hopefully won't be in an insane amount of debt. Will have to see! Also, still waiting to hear back from Columbia :/ Would love to just make my decision already!! Thank you and good luck with everything!
reyna323 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I got a letter from UW Seattle about sending in $250 deposit. I just can't. If I have to submit the deposit before I hear back about aid, I will have to disqualify it as an option. I had to pay a $200 "seating fee" at UT Knoxville to accept my admittance and reserve my spot in the program within 30 days of my offer letter. I assumed this was sort of standard operating procedure at other schools as well... Can anyone else weigh in on this? UTK didn't even send out our departmental scholarship application until several weeks after I was admitted. The scholarship app is due April 15, and they send out funding decisions in June. I'm fairly certain that there are other universities that work this way as well, which makes it dang near impossible to know about the financial aid part before committing to a program. Then again, I know some schools send funding info along with the offer letters. How are others handling this? (It's a non-issue for me since I only applied to one school, but I'm just asking for the benefit of others.)

Can anyone else weigh in on this?I know I was the one that mentioned this originally, but SUNY only requires a $50 deposit and Loyola and Portland didn't require a deposit at all. The $250 Seattle requires, on top of the $58 background check is not feasible for me, unfortunately. If I had known about the $308, I wouldn't have applied to begin with. CO (soon to be) SLP Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 If anyone here is applying to Colorado State, I just heard that they should have wrapped up decisions for non-advanced standing students by the end of this week and letters out by the end of next week. Good luck to all! -Chris

Thank you for sharing your experience with me! Now I wish i would of applied to Hunter! I am actually debating between a CSU (DH)and NYU. Can you give me any insight with those two? I've been doing my research, but I'm still torn. At the end of the day NYU is NYU!! Yet, you are completely right, a SW-er doesn't get paid much...I am really scared of coming out with 100K+ loans and end up returning to my current job which I love but the pay is horrible

We are supposed to find out March 18-22 for my top school and it is seriously too far away. I just want to know so I can be completely present in other aspects of my life. I saw the U of GA campus at Athens last year and it is gorgeous. Love their bus system. Is that where you applied? Edited March 14, 2013 by SAY24

It's awful haha. I have spring break next week so hopefully that will distract me. Yes that's where I applied! I've never been there so I'm excited to hear that it's a pretty campus!

I would go for the cheaper one. NYU is a great school and known but you will pay a hefty price for it. Not only will you use up all your loans once you go to NYU but you will have to also pay for the NYC life. The most affordable thing in this city is the transportation....thats it! It's the one thing that makes this place cheaper than LA. PUt it this way a 3 dollar sandwich in LA is about 8 bucks in NYC. It's going to be one of the best experiences in life and you probably wont want to leave after you are here. Put it this way, you will pay a lot but have the BEST experience of your life or you can choose DH and have the opportunity to start saving for retirement and buying a house in 5 years from when you graduate (rather than 10 to 25 years).
