Typically they have faculty POI's send a welcome note or call, though (or even current students in instances where a grad student knows the applicant, which is common), so this isn't to say that everyone will hear tomorrow. Some faculty are traveling, on sabbatical, etc., which means it could take a few days. But I expect folks will start hearing tomorrow. It also appears that UCLA will not verbally confirm that individuals are waitlisted. I understand not emailing everyone they are waitlisted, but if am applicant calls or emails with that specific question, it seems unprofessional to lie. I am strongly considering withdrawing my application due to their obscufation and discouraging several future applicants from applying under the assumption that external facing behavior is an upper bound on internal facing behavior of administrative staff. I really appreciate that you are helping us out here with this info. It makes the stress much more bearable knowing that there is a specific date at which it might end in regards to specific programs. I am expecting next week, contrary to the posts on here. However, I am happy to put my foot in my mouth if I'm wrong. Btw, is it common for a department to offset funding by any external funding you receive? Past input on the results page show a mix of website notifications, emails from POIs, and phone calls. I wouldn't put too much stock into the method of communication. In regards to timing, it's quite possible that people hear over various days, as the previous poster indicated.
