Sure! I’m an international student (from Colombia). I did two undergrad programs at Colombia (not Columbia- Colombia) a BA in Economics and LLB in Law. Then did my masters degree in Law in the US and I’m currently finishing a JSD (it’s a research program after the masters in which you have to write a dissertation under the supervision of 3 faculty members). This is my second year applying (I got rejected from 8-10 schools last year). My GRE is not great (V157 Q158 AWA 5,0). I used the same GRE and the thing I did differently was that I contacted professors. I wrote a research proposal and started contacting professors to ask them feedback and any advice regarding the application.

I feel little hope for getting into Toronto now. My GRE score is much lower than yours (154 V, 158 Q, 4A). I got a BA and MPhil in sociology (also a research master degree requiring written thesis under supervision of faculty member). I found that last year there were some acceptances off the wait-list in April. But I have always been the kind of person that doesn't have much luck to be waitlisted, not to say getting off the waitlist.

This is my first round of application. Maybe next year I gotta improve my GRE before I start my application.

From the graduate school. "Sociology PHD; has recommended you for admission. In order for Graduate School Administration to review your file we will need an official transcript from your bachelor's degree granting institution."

No acceptance letter yet. 

@latemeg  hey, I got in too! I spoke with the graduate director on the phone as well and was informed that paper docs were sent via snail mail yesterday afternoon. Congrats to you! Onward to the wintery bliss of Madison, Wisconsin!

Ayyyy! I'm thrilled  Did the director call you or did you contact them? I'll be anxiously checking my mail now lol.

Just got off the phone with someone at UW-Madison and they said that decisions should be going out either today or tomorrow, and she specifically told me to check my application regarding the decision. Do with that info what you will.

I called them, no need to worry! I had already submitted an official transcript in November and just wanted to see if they still had it or if I needed to send a new one. Then we chatted for about 90 seconds, wherein the paper document snail mail stuff came up.

Or any information about the email you received? Curious to know if Princeton sends admissions all at once or one at a time.

So, someone posted a Minnesota acceptance AND  a Vanderbilt interview. I'm seriously questioning my life choices right now. I feel like getting an MA was such a bad idea because it seems like it doesn't demonstrate I can do "real" research to get a PhD.

Does it help that I had a dream where I re-applied the next two years and kept getting wait listed?!?!?!?

The anxiety and stress IS REAL NOW!

Rejected from Wisconsin. DGS said they could only accept 10% of applicants this year, and that there is no waitlist this year. Good luck to everyone else!

I called earlier today requesting info about my application, and the DGS just called me back and said he takes no pleasure in informing people that they've been rejected. Said that there were a ton of applicants and they're very financially strained.

Just hoping for ONE god damn acceptance! I've worked my ass off  since graduating from undergrad and for once, I just want things to look bright and not so hopeless.

I still haven't heard anything from anywhere, save for the one UT rejection...I know it's still early but I feel like if I still had a chance I would've heard from somewhere by now, so I've sort of resigned myself that perhaps a PhD is not in the cards for me (I don't plan on applying next year)

Hey Guys! First time writing in the Forum! (Thanks for creating this place to vent out all the stress!) I was reading that people are calling universities. Should I also start calling? I applied to CUNY, NYU, Princeton, Cornell and Brown. Is it too desperate?  (Even if I am quite desperate for some news). Congrats to all that have been accepted!

Hey! Honestly I think calling is more of a self-soothing gesture haha. And I wouldnt worry about coming off too desperate Im sure they get a million calls a day from applicants.
