Missing responses?
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to cclBo2020's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I didn’t even know there was a portal?! Is it just where you submitted the application? I didn’t get that email but that does sound super confusing haha I don’t know how they’re notifying but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the mail. @speechpathy -

@speechpathy I see that you applied to Maryville. Have you heard anything from them? I was told the university is "in the process" of notifying students a few days ago but have yet to hear anything! It's one of the last schools I have to hear from -

@mirrorcat43 Did you have an interview with EWU? -
So the schools that I have heard back from so far have all been waitlists. Does anyone know if it’s actually possible to get into a grad program from a waitlist?! Obviously every school is different, but it is just very stressful knowing you may not get in. The schools I have replied to basically said they won’t give out any information about ranking/how many people were waitlisted. Anyone else in this same boat? Have any positive thoughts?!

I asked about this when I interviewed and it seemed like there’s basically no difference. Assuming you have to give a deposit/commit by the 15th and probably wouldn’t get off the waitlist until after that, I’m not sure how that would work out. Everyone always says ranking doesn’t matter in terms of getting a job later. If it was me I would take the acceptance that I had. Good luck and congrats!

@MarSLP2019 do you happen to know how many people WSU accepts and/or puts on the waitlist? Do you know if anyone in your program got in from the waitlist? I have been waitlisted and am wondering if there’s even a chance to get off of it or not... -
ETSU Accepted 2018
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to curlyhairslp2be's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I haven't heard anything from ETSU. I am going to assume I am waitlisted since I have seen both acceptances and rejections on the results page..anyone else in the same boat? -
What Schools Are You Waiting On!?

I haven’t heard from East Tennessee (ETSU) but have seen rejections and admissions. Anyone else in the same boat with them or know anything about this? -

To those who received an acceptance, did they give you until April 15th to decide or do you have to let them know before that? -
What Schools Are You Waiting On!?
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to speechie2b's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm waiting on all of mine. I get an email with the front of mail I am receiving and I have something from Texas Woman's University (TWU). Anyone else get something in the mail from them!? I don't think they send admission decisions via regular mail, but I have no idea what else this could possibly be!? I haven't received anything else from them in the mail before! Torture that I have to wait until I get home later today to see what it is! -
Dealing with waiting
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to soontobeslp2018's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
First of all, WAITING SUCKS. It totally sucks and is filled with a lot of anxiety, self doubt, etc etc. However, I would say don't worry because many schools will offer acceptance to those they are giving funding first or will do it in waves to see how many people don't accept the spot. Don't worry about disappointing people either. At the end of the day it is about you and this process is incredibly hard. Most people do not understand just how hard it actually is to get into this field.- 20 replies

Does anybody know when we should hear back from WSU? At the end of the interview they said that they were interviewing more people the next week, but from the results page it seems like they didn’t do interviews in waves in previous years so I don’t know... -

I’ve been out of school for a few years, do you think I’m going to struggle with any of the questions related to application?! I have experience in the field, however I don’t remember a lot of like anatomy and that kind of thing! @Zoegg182 @snoves -

@MarSLP2019 thanks! That’s really helpful. Were you offered the job to work in a lab or was it something they made available to everyone to apply for? Is that separate from the research requirement (I believe there’s a few options for this)? -

How exactly does it work being included with another school?! Is everything the same essentially for both schools? How many people are in the program? What are practicum experiences like? Thanks for any info -

HooHooHooHoosiers replied to snoves's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
@snoves I have no idea what they’re going to ask but it’s only 15 minutes so I doubt it’s too in depth?! I do know I was told in the past they have around 250 applicants and interview the top 100, so I’m already hopeful I might actually have a shot of getting in somewhere! Good luck! -
Less Competitive Programs
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to NatRose's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Am I right in saying that tuition at UCF is ridiculously expensive? I wanted to apply there but decided not to because out of state tuition was like 20k more than anywhere else I looked!- 3 replies

student loans/not working during grad school
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to Ejt5100's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Can I kind of piggyback off your question here!? First off, submit the FAFSA. Everyone going to graduate school is considered an independent no matter what age you are. Most people can get something like 22,000 a year in federal student loans. My question is, what do you do if this doesn't cover your cost of tuition? What about living expenses? For most people, they are not going to be able to work while in school, and even if they can, it is not nearly enough to cover rent, food, etc. Does anyone know how much you can take out in PLUS loans and if these can be used for whatever you still need for tuition AND living expenses?? Are private loans the only other way?? This is all so expensive!- 9 replies

Use my degree or lose it?
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to dhuffman2013's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I have never heard about the five year thing. I have seen on some schools' websites that the undergrad degree only 'counts' for admission to grad school if it has been completed in the last TEN years. I have only ever seen this as ten, not five. It seems kind of crazy to me that you spend all that time and money on school and it's basically useless after five years. Your coworker probably has no clue what she is talking about though, don't worry about what negative people have to say!- 9 replies

Retaking undergrad courses online
HooHooHooHoosiers replied to HooHooHooHoosiers's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Thanks for the input! I've been working in ABA therapy for two years since graduating and I retook the GRE. Last time I was rejected to 10 schools, and this time I was rejected to 3 and waitlisted at 6. I'm hoping that retaking a few classes will finally get me in! @Katie54 what was the program you did your SLPA through? And what was the cost? That is what's really holding me back is putting up even more money to prove I deserve to be in a program!! @Katie54
