  1. Does anyone have more recent opinions on Winston? I toured Wake yesterday and I like the campus but not the surrounding area. It was dilapidated with hobos running around. The mall nearby also sucks from what I can see. I think I prefer a more urban environment!!!
  2. Yeah thanks. The campus is nice but it was in the middle of nowhere. Seems there were dilapidated buildings and hobos running around.
  3. I don't agree with that. If you read about the conversion tables it has 67% error.
  4. Hope you get in!
  5. @another_time @vislabgirlx where is it that you guys accepted? Congrats btw!
  6. American. reppin NC. didn't decide on field yet. how agonizing.
  7. mainly that I've applied to the program before and know that it's intended for people who graduated more recently than me. Also, I'm looking at graduate study for better jobs and I've looked at their career placement and I've already interviewed at some of those places. If I'm in master's program, I don't want to be applying to the same jobs that undergrad kids can get, you know? Cost of attendance is also a lot. I have a small scholarship but hardly makes a dent in the amount i need to borrow. I'm waiting for Columbia (more expensive) and UNC (cheaper because I'm a resident). Not sure what to do. I am trying to transition to something more quantitative. I'm going to take programming and linear algebra over the summer and try to get As. I'll even take the damn GRE again if I have to. three has been a lucky number for me after all.
  8. I've been to Baltimore for volleyball tournaments. I mean your advice about asking the best parts to live is something people should do no matter what school they end up at. Usually housing and program directors are helpful in finding students housing in a good area. More than safety, I would be concerned about whether I would like to live in Baltimore or Nashville. I think safety is a trivial concern because I don't think anywhere is "safe". I carry pepper spray and try to avoid walking alone at night but it doesn't mean those things are enough to prevent something from happening.
  9. I mean worst case couldn't you accept Purdue and renege if you get into CMU? I'm sure people have done that before. Or you could also try asking Purdue for an extension but you have to word it carefully!
  10. I'm so sorry to hear this. I went to UNC and got rejected from a master's there. It definitely hurts more when it's your alma matter. I cried for so long. Don't let it get you down. There will be a program that fits you soon and you can send more apps out if you have to. Applications went so much worse than I expected they would. I got mostly rejection and waitlist. The waitlists haven't notified me and it's driving me nuts. I'm also not that enthused about the one acceptance I have and deposit is due next week!
  11. Idk I got an A- in multivariable calculus so I'm hoping I crush linear algebra. My parents are engineers. Maybe some of their intelligence will transfer to me lol
  12. I heard April 15th too but he told me my waitlist isn't ranked! He said it depends on what those who were admitted decide to do. And whoever rejects their offer has to have a similar research focus to me for me to get in. April 15 almost here but I'm scared af. Mainly because I don't think I'm that enthused about the one acceptance I do have and debating to send out more apps for that reason. I sent one this past week so if I get in there, maybe it's my best bet!
  13. I am not sure. I didn't calculate cost of attendance for UNC. I know I do get the in-state tuition. Don't know much about salary for health informatics but I believed it would be 60-100. Maybe I could pay the debt off pretty fast but i'm not admitted yet. just submitted app this week. I'm working in a restaurant right now so I might save up some money but I'm also trying to pay other shit all the time like car insurance or orthodontic treatment that I'm about to start. I literally dread opening my mailbox because people only ever send me bills. why do poor people even have to pay bills? seriously favorite childhood memory was no bills. I want to be a millionaire fast
  14. I didn't decide what school I'm going to yet. I might be able to get insurance through my employer but this job isn't something I want to do the rest of my life. You only get insurance if you're full-time. I am counting on school to get insurance and better jobs. I don't recommend going to the healthcare marketplace until you have to. January is still 10 months away so I will start looking harder in November. I put my phone number on the healthcare marketplace and they haven't stopped calling me since. always from a different number too! so annoying!
  15. You can order on Amazon! or check local library. I just downloaded it for my Kindle app.
  16. Yes. I'm American and I'm disgusted by how expensive education is here. I agree that the reason international kids come here is because they were rich and could afford to. I used to go to a private school in south Florida and these international kids would come from China or Saudi Arabia. They were buying brand new Mercedes and I had no clue how they were doing that. That's not the norm for most people. Most American students finance their education through loans. That's why I am not sure if I want to go to a private school in New York. I have currently been waitlisted at Columbia but cost of attendance is $86,951! I don't want to spend the rest of my life paying back debts. My friend is 25 and he is already paying $300 a month for the next 20 years for his loan repayment. That's on top of his other expenses like rent, car payment, car insurance . I think PhD programs are best because they fund you but I was too scared to apply to PhD with my lack of research experience. I also don't want to commit to 5 years of research at this point in my life. I really just wanted to use a master's to get a better job than I can with only BS in psych. But salary is important to me if I have to take so much debt just to get the degree! @pen2009
  17. cool I bought it for Kindle app. there are a lot of things I wish I knew. Like I probably wouldn't have studied psychology. I believe that every time you change your career interests, it creates more obstacles for yourself. And at UNC, I wish I would have been in the B school. I perceive those students had more of an advantage than kids who weren't in the B school.
  18. I'm American. Didn't know that American universities looked at classes that way. I didn't know so many international people wanted to come to school in America.
  19. @Neist was it a good book? I know you wrote to @pen2009 but I like reading books too.
  20. Also paper-based at LSU https://is.lsu.edu/coursefactsheet.asp?nid=301&Rubric=MATH&CourseNr=2085&Version=F
  21. found this through UND. http://und.edu/academics/extended-learning/online-distance/courses/math207/
  22. I live close to UNC so I took multivariable calculus there. UNC has summer school too. I will be taking linear algebra there. I hope it helps me in some way no matter what I decide to do. Lol my mom is an alum of Virginia Tech. I was accepted to VT for undergrad but what do you know I ended up at UNC. I think there are online classes you can take! I can text an old friend maybe. He had to take multivariable for his major. He took online but I don't know where. I want to say it was Penn maybe not too sure. Online classes are out there you just have to look for it. If you have bachelor in math already, then why haven't you taken linear algebra or multivariable? I thought those were both required for math majors.
  23. Could you not consider statistics at UVA? I was looking there too. The deadline already passed and I think my quant GRE score sucks for statistics programs at least. And wow like everyone who applies to stat programs seems to already have math background! I have BS in psychology. Currently have only taken through multivariable calculus and most programs preferred linear algebra at minimum they also want advanced calculus or probability a lot of the time! I completely understand why you don't want to pay OOS tuition. I live right by UNC, Duke, and NC State so I'm lucky to get in-state tuition rates at UNC and State.
  24. yeah out-of-state is more expensive but couldn't you just take loans or do you not want to do that? Why do you say that? As mentioned above, I don't want online programs because I won't make friends that way but I'm curious why you say that.
