  1. $700 doesn't sound like a lot of money anyway. I didn't apply to PhD programs and don't know how their stipends work but that's just my two cents. I would be thankful for any admissions offer because everything is so competitive. you're lucky to be admitted at all.
  2. I went to UNC undergrad. You will love Chapel Hill. Amazing culture and campus. Academics are superb as well. Kathryn Burns was my history professor and she was fantastic!
  3. yeah, that's something to consider. That's why I applied to UNC because I'm a resident so I get in-state tuition. Still the in-state tuition is $16,000. I haven't been working much and I have no savings so I still have to borrow that. Living in Chapel Hill is cheap compared to cities but I would have to borrow living expenses too. And yeah it might be what I have to do to get any jobs because I found out the hard way that BS in psych isn't the best for finding jobs. wompppp
  4. Does anyone know if MA in Management at Wake Forest is a good program? I have been admitted with $7500 scholarship. That still leaves $60,000 for me to pay. I would have to borrow it! That was for tuition, living. The deposit is $500 due by April 15th so I would have to decide soon, but I may ask for an extension.
  5. to the people who were accepted, what was your background? I am interested in OB. I have a BS in psychology right now.
  6. guys I haven't heard yet! April 15th is almost here but patience isn't one of my virtues! congrats to everyone who was accepted to their dream schools!
  7. is that from undergrad? I've only been admitted to one master's program right now. Waitlisted at two. But wow, they're all at private universities, which means taking 60-80,000 in debt! It's hard for me to know if it's worth it because I was checking the loan applications and they give you 10-20 years to pay it off. I'm 25 now and I can't imagine still paying loans off at 45! What's the secret to getting rich quick? :/
  8. @Alexander II ohhhh, gotcha! lol I wrote you back a really long message. didn't realize you hadn't applied yet! I didn't hear of the computational social science program before this forum. I knew about MAPSS at UChicago and know someone who went. She was an anthropology major at Brandeis and found a job in marketing in Chicago after MAPSS. MAPSS looked interesting to me but I never want to live in the midwest. I've been to Chicago airport and I don't do winter. I've also been to Madison twice and hated it and it's basically the same weather as Chi lol.
  9. ay yo I have BS in psychology too. I'm interested in MBA potentially too but I have high standards for myself and I want to go to a top school. I think grad school is all a joke if it doesn't get you where you want to be. What @MarkMc said about work experience is true. I've read average is 3-5 years of work experience. People sometimes get in with less experience but I don't have much so I'm not applying right now. I think you need to do more research about schools. Maybe call admissions or check class profiles to see if your score is competitive. Also, maybe consider taking the GMAT. Who knows maybe you would do better on it than GRE? But a lot of B schools accept GRE now too because it tests the same things as GMAT I think?? If you're worried about your GPA being too low, then I would suggest taking some more classes like maybe accounting or marketing to demonstrate interest in business. Calculus is also good but you prob already took it if you were a BS. Either calc or computer science was required at my school for BS in psych. Good luck!
  10. yooooo has anyone heard from the waitlist at Wake Forest MA Psychology yet? My patience is dwindling. He said April 15th latest! It's not a ranked list either. no clue what my fate holds!

    Loans

anyone with loans and scared about it? I'm not trying to pay these off the rest of my life. I don't have any right now but I applied to a lot of private schools and even if I went to UNC in-state I still don't have enough money. I'm so bad at saving money. I've had to use every cent I earned on living.
  12. my situation is different than what you're talking about. I applied to master's not PhD and I would have to pay $500 deposit to secure my spot in the program I've been accepted to. If I don't pay the deposit, then my offer is gone I think. And right now I have no other offers so I would rather take $500 as a sunk cost than get nothing at all. I'm submitting 1-2 more apps. Currently waitlisted two other master's.
  13. I agree with you and the website said that most people in QMSS already had work experience but a few came right after undergrad. I don't have much work experience and I also didn't just graduate. I think for the amount of debt I would have to take, then the salary would have to be pretty high! I don't want to be paying loans for the rest of my life!
  14. were you guys accepted to QMSS? I'm waitlisted there. What were you guys hoping to accomplish with QMSS?
  15. yeah I'm not judging! I know location is an issue for me. I thought about maybe applying to UChicago but I know that I would never survive Chicago since I'm the hugest baby about winter. There's just no point in me applying because winter is that much of a deal breaker for me. I'm sure you can get into a great program in an area that you like. A long commute would also bother me. I don't really like driving more than 30 minutes to get where I'm going lol.
  16. I haven't heard of Stevens. I think you have to look at the pros and cons. Also consider how important rankings are to you. Do they cost the same? I don't have experience with those schools so I'm not the right person to ask but I still do think listing out the pros and cons could help you make a decision.
  17. I think it's fine to pay a deposit to secure your spot in case you didn't get in off the waitlist. I'm in a similar situation and thinking of paying the deposit or asking for an extension. I'd rather have that option than none.
  18. Isn't there any information on the program website about class profile? I'm American so our GPA scale is on 4.0. I have no idea what your GPA converts to. Why didn't they give you feedback? Is it their policy not to? I would try to improve my quant score on GRE if I was you but I'm not sure how important quant scores are for Spanish.
  19. okay being honest, I have no idea why you applied if you don't like the location. what do you do right now? if I was in your situation, I would probably wait and apply again. No sense doing something that will make you unhappy. Life is too short for that you know? but I hope you can enhance your application with another year off. I don't know what you do right now. What is the location anyway?
  20. didn't apply to Cali schools because it's so far for me. prefer to stay concentrated in southeast.
  21. still waitlisted at Wake Forest and Columbia. It's almost April 15! That's when Wake said they would notify me! And Columbia just said "several weeks". Vague.
  22. To be honest, I don't think your GPA is very good. I would say that since that is a potential weakness for your application then you need to be stronger elsewhere like crush the GRE and you have research experience which is good. The GPA for Wake Forest MA is like 3.7. I had a 3.40 from a top public university and got waitlisted there. My GRE score is above their average so I'm assuming that my GPA and lack of research experience got me put on the waitlist. If you have concerns, I would talk to admissions or program directors directly. Dr. Stone at Wake told me that if you have a weakness on your application, then you have to make up for it with something else. I've heard the same advice from Columbia. Since you have research experience, I do think you could maybe apply to PhDs but usually the average GPA is going to be higher than yours. Scores do matter too as well as letters of recommendation. Good luck!
  23. yo I got 155/155 the first time and 161 quant and 159 verbal the second time. You need to download the Magoosh GRE flash cards. Also use the PowerPrep software because it will give most accurate prediction of your actual score. I also used a variety of books. I was doing 100-200 math questions a day for a while. And when I took the verbal section, I tried a new technique than what I did the first time I took the test. I used the scrap paper and paraphrased the passages. They have obscure words on the sentence and text completions so I really do recommend that vocabulary app. Words that I remember seeing were excoriate and chimerical. Also, remember that GRE score is only one aspect of your application. And a good GRE score is only one that will get you into the school you want to go to. Good luck!
  24. is anyone on here going to QMSS? I'm waitlisted currently. Fin aid emailed me back and said cost of attendance is $86,951. Anyone know if this is worth it? More than likely, I would use the degree to find a job and not go into PhD programs. Trying to find what kind of salary could be expected after QMSS.
