  1. I'm pretty sure that they said that you wouldn't be considered for scholarships or fellowships if you didn't complete the financial aid application. I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong.
  2. Of course! Curious to see what 150 mill buys you. A new building, some big professors?
  3. Yeah like I can barely get out of my road but the city is fine. Virtual classes continue and so on. Just a normal day in A2 really! Although I stepped outside this morning and it was -22C. Chilly!
  4. I think @GradSchoolGradsuggested that it wanted to become more like Princeton student aid wise! That would be good news for many students!
  5. Are people really expecting a 10 to 15k increase? That seems like a lot.
  6. Isn't the real draw of George Mason the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, and the Mercatus Center? Does Schar do much with them?
  7. Their blog says Dec 18th for Early Notification. http://saisdcadmissions.blogspot.com/
  8. And now we wait. Good luck everybody! The deadline is today, if you have been procrastinating.
  9. If you are an EU citizen you could consider a tech/society focused Erasmus Mundus program, if that interests you?
  10. I was on a HKS Webinar yesterday and they explicitly cited how they like different backgrounds, and how they have a Nuclear Engineer in their current cohort.
  11. Europe... Depends on your area but these are all reputable. There are sometimes really intriguing joint degree options too - I think there might be an LSE/Sciences Po option like that. That would be my personal choice I think. All these programs have specific advantages in different areas. UK: Oxbridge, London School of Economics, King's College London, SOAS. Continental Europe: Sciences Po, Leiden, Free University of Berlin, Amsterdam, ETH Zurich
  12. Describe a time when you did not meet expectations and elaborate on how the experience changed you. (250 Word limit) Not my favorite question. ?
  13. These are typically referred to as the big 4 environmental management-type programs in the US, and you can't go wrong with them of course, but there quite a few well-regarded programs of this type. You should look through this thread (and I'm sure there will be a 2021 one too): It depends on your overall goals, but I think you are in a field at the moment that lends itself well to Environmental Policy. I'm in a similar-ish field, and it would be a natural leap for me too - so it should be for you. I think waiting a year isn't a bad idea, get some new experiences and so on along the way, take the GRE and strengthen your application. It would make you a stronger candidate but that doesn't always fit with life plans and things! If you want to pay in-state tuition, consider UCSB, Berkeley, Davis and elsewhere - they all have good environmental programs. Working in California and Wastewater, I'm naturally drawn to thoughts of the Water Wars and Mono Lake and so on.... a compelling environmental story to weave in to your apps, if it is relevant! Water resource management is so important to California and the entire Southwest region, and will be as the climate changes. What are your career goals? What do you actually want to do after you leave the wastewater plant?
  14. With your environmental focus, perhaps consider: UCSB Bren School, Michigan SEAS, Duke Nicholas & Yale FES (think it just changed its name). These are some of the top env schools. When I was considering that route, I really liked Duke's joint MPA/MEM type degree. At least explore these programs. You may well decide an MPA is for you after all, of course!
  15. I think they added a quant resume this year too for some programs, but I might have misread it.
  16. Thanks for the quick reply! 1. That is what I was leaning towards also with Georgetown. I've requested more info on Conflict Res but I think the MSFS makes more sense. Better shot at funding as you say. 2. Notre Dame has a fully-funded Peace/Justice program which has a decent reputation I think, hence why it is on the list. I take your point though. 3. I was looking at Chicago briefly a minute ago but wasn't sure of its reputation? Stanford is too APAC for me, I'm very much Africa focused. 4. Haha! One for DMs.
  17. Not after application advice per se, but I just want to make sure I haven't missed any programs before I start working on the rest of them! I'm looking for an IR/Human Rights/Conflict Resolution-type program. I've carried out exhaustive research on these, but let me know if you see somewhere I should consider. My list is (ranked from top choice down). Georgetown MSFS or Conflict Resolution Harvard Kennedy MPP Princeton SPIA MPA Yale Jackson MA Global Affairs Notre Dame MA Global Affairs (International Peace Studies). Is there a great program I should consider? I have ruled out the following: Columbia (Living in NY not good for my family, love the program though), SAIS (too quant heavy for me, though their programs are great), GWU Elliot (I don't meet language Prereqs), Tufts (Ethical issue), American and George Mason.
  18. This is fantastic advice. Please heed it! You will likely get far more out of your graduate school experience by considering these points.
  19. I think I've convinced myself to apply again. I'd expect in-person teaching too... Surely that will be the case? I note that SAIS' Early Application season is now open.
  20. I can understand that! Everywhere you look there is a need for better-informed decision makers. It sounds like it makes sense to apply in your instance. I also don't really want to delay another year... I just deeply dislike the uncertainty. Everyone is dealing with that uncertainty though, so perhaps I just want to have my cake and eat it too! I'm still intending to apply at this point, I'm just significantly less enthusiastic than I was. I'm also keen to see how these schools will deal with the GRE issue. Let's hope the admission's gods are kind this cycle.
  21. I've been patiently biding my time, building up my profile ready for this application season.... but obviously the world is very different to what it was then. There is great uncertainty about funding prospects, what courses will look like, what cohorts will look like... I know where I'm applying (Georgetown MSFS, GWU Elliot, Harvard Kennedy, Princeton). It has been my plan for a very long time to apply this year, but now I'm not sure. I'm sure others must be having similar thoughts - what are you thinking?
  22. Yes these are interesting times. They have extended their application deadline until May 1st, so maybe they are struggling a bit more than other schools.
  23. I'm not applying this cycle but wanted to note how much money they must be spending on marketing this cycle. I get endless YouTube Ads (literally after pretty much every video), Emails and so on. Inescapable! That doesn't mean it isn't effective... I've just seen those videos dozens of times now.
  24. Congrats to both of you for your acceptances to two great programs!
