  1. I am currently waitlisted at Simon Fraser University, Fordham University, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I'm a forensic focused applicant, so you can probably guess who my POIs are off of that. If anyone is holding a spot at one of these, it would be very kind to my sanity to let it go ASAP if you can, or at least keep me in the loop during your decision process if you feel comfortable. This especially applies to UNL - it's my top choice and I would truly be over the moon if I was able to go there.
  2. I am in a very strange situation and am unsure of how to process it. I have seemed to be fairly successful in landing interviews (4/8), but after three of my interviews I have been waitlisted as a first alternate. I know that on one hand, this is really something to be proud of, and I know that each person that actually got in has a chance of declining the offer. Multiply that by three, and I know that there is still a possibility that I will be admitted. On the other hand, it's hard not to be devastated that I don't have any concrete offers yet and to wonder if there was something I was doing wrong the whole time (nothing comes to mind, and all professors who I have corresponded with after the fact have said they would be happy to take me if the first declines). It's just nice to write this all out and know that I'm not alone in this situation, but if anyone has any advice or comments on what my fate may be, they would be appreciated. Best of luck to all of you, I hope everyone gets some positive news soon.
  3. Me too please, it is my top choice as well! And did anyone get notified if they were waitlisted?
  4. I’ll just jump in here and say that I am a very forensic focused applicant – 7/8 of the programs I applied to (all Clinical Psychology PhD) sported a formal forensic “track” or specialization. See my signature for the complete list! UNR is the only one that doesn’t have the formal track. Personally, I didn’t want to attend a program for 4-5 years and never take a class in what I’m passionate about. Additionally, I just completed my undergraduate degree two months ago and all my research experience and clinical experience thus far has been with forensic populations. While the opportunities do differ depending on the area, there are ways to get this experience! For the OP, feel free to PM me if you have any questions about how I did this.
  5. Right there with you, and haven’t heard anything yet! Hopefully this week is the week...
  6. Hi everyone, for those who have gone through interviews/are prepping for interviews, how are you planning on answering questions like "Why should we accept you over other equally qualified candidates?" As I know that there will be many qualified candidates interviewed, I don't want to seem presumptuous and say something that other people have going for them as well.
  7. 100%. Especially because I'll be flying in from Canada, and then all around the USA. But I am flying in next week, and I am planning on staying in the US with my SO until the end of my interviews. Since I'm Canadian and am not keeping up with all the current events in the states, how exactly could the shutdown affect both domestic and international flights in the coming months?
  8. Awe, you are so kind! This forum is really unique in that regard, we all are trying to lift each other up. This is something I've struggled with, and these words are much needed with interviews right around the corner! I want to pass this along to everyone else as well. There may be reasons why you don't think you're worthy of your accomplishments (e.g., I likely feel this way because I am a younger applicant), but it's important to own them nonetheless! You all deserve these opportunities!
  9. Again, I wanted to second what @round2_ said above. I currently have 3/8 interviews (and honestly, have no idea how I got them - you all are so qualified ?) and I have a sneaking suspicion that my connections secured 2/3 of them. One of them is with my undergraduate institution where the professors all know me, and for the other, a professor I worked with closely throughout my undergrad personally called my POI there and sung my praises. I have been incredibly fortunate to work with amazing people! Otherwise, my CV is a little weird in that I have been first author of 6/7 of my conference posters/presentations. It's taken a lot of blood, sweat, and tears on my end, but it may have paid off now. I also had multiple graduate students and trusted faculty review my statement of purpose before I submitted it and make lots of edits, so I'm sure that helped. Since my undergraduate Honours program is awesome, they also let us be teaching assistants during undergrad, so I have a year of teaching experience too. Other than that, I'm at a loss... you sound super qualified! Best of luck, I hope you get some invites coming your way soon!
  10. School: Fordham University Program: Clinical Psychology PhD Type of Invite: Mass email from Director of Clinical Training for in person interview. Interview Date(s): Either Jan 25th or Feb 1st. POI: PM me. To say I'm in shock is an understatement. Wow. Since I already have an interview on one of those dates, and a non-refundable plane ticket on another, I'm going to have to do some rearranging.... but so incredibly excited!!!
  11. If you do decide to go, see you there! I will be attending, but I live in BC myself, so it's a little easier for me.
  12. I just posted this in the Canadian thread, but I'll post it here as well! School: Simon Fraser University Type: MA/PhD Clinical Psychology Date of Invite: Jan 11th, 2018 Type of invite: Email invitation to either a Skype or in-person interview! Interview date(s): In person: Feb. 1. POI: PM me Very excited!!
  13. School: Simon Fraser University Type: MA/PhD Clinical Psychology Date of Invite: Jan 11th, 2018 Type of invite: Email invitation to either a Skype or in-person interview! Interview date(s): In person: Feb. 1. POI: PM me First Canadian invite! (And only, as I only applied to one Canadian school). Not super surprised due to my ties with the program (two of my reference letter writers are also on the admissions committee), but excited nonetheless!
  14. Hey everyone, I need some advice. So when I was filling out an app to a program, I (very very stupidly) answered that I had committed academic dishonesty when of course I never have - I think I was just going too fast. Meanwhile, back in Sept. and then right when the app was submitted, I had some email contact with the POI that sounded extremely positive (e.g., he said my GPA/GRE and research experience looked great and was looking forward to receiving my app). Fast forward to Dec. 17th, when I was looking through this app and noticed the mistake. I immediately called the office and got it corrected and asked if apps had been reviewed yet, and the program assistant assured me they didn't get looked at until early Jan. However, I saw some interview invites posted on the results page for this university's clinical program on Dec. 18-19... basically, do you think I should contact this POI and alert him to the fact that I made the mistake in my app, just in case he threw it out based on seeing that one mistake?
  15. Yes! I actually just completed my undergrad there and have close ties with lots of faculty, especially forensic - if anyone has any questions about any aspect of the program please feel free to DM me! I was just on the phone with an undergrad PI that is involved in the admissions process this morning and she let me know that they do not even have a shortlist of candidates to interview yet and they definitely won't be sending invites out until late next week. So don't worry! ?
  16. School: University of Nebraska-Lincoln Type: PhD Date of invite: January 3rd Type of invite: Phone call from POI Interview date(s): Invited to the Interview & Recruitment weekend Feb. 15-17 OH MY GOD I am positively beaming with excitement. Top choice school and my first invite, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Feel free to DM asking for POI!
  17. This is 100% me. Laptop open and email up all day. ??
  18. Congrats to the person who posted in the results that they got an interview for the UA Psych & Law program! Could you message me the PI if you see this?
  19. Congrats, such great news before the holidays! Since I’m still waiting for word from them from a different PI, did you get the feel that the email from the DCT yesterday was mass or personalized? Trying to determine whether I should still have hope. Good luck!! ?
  20. I do as well! My situation is very unique and awesome though - we both just finished undergrad, and my SO is starting a job as a utility consultant. He will either be working from home, or flying to whatever location his company puts him on a contract with each week and will be home for weekends. So either way, we can literally move anywhere I get in. So grateful for that!
  21. Could the latest UNR interview poster please DM me your PI initials? ?
