I have an interview this upcoming week. But I don’t know how many people are being interviewed versus how many awards are available.

Columbia University Teachers College Fall 2019

I applied to a different Master of Arts program as a priority applicant, and I also haven’t gotten anything yet. I was told by my program that I would hear back anywhere from March 1st to the 14th. -
For those accepted and decided what will you do until August?

I’m working until mid-May, relaxing for about a month, then going back to the US in early June to recover from my inevitable jetlag for a week before my program’s internship component starts in mid-June. -
Hello. I would like to become a research assistant, but I’m clueless as to how to begin. I’ve been accepted into a top university for a masters starting this upcoming year but would like to apply for a PhD there eventually. So I would like to connect with some professors and become a research assistant if possible. I’ve looked up the faculty’s profiles on their departments’ websites and found a couple who fit my research interest. There are in different departments than the one I’ve been accepted to, but still related to my past experiences and topic that I want to study. Could you tell me your own experiences in this process? Is there some unwritten rule about how many professors I should contact, particularly if many or all of them happen to be from the same departments? Please share any info you can, as I am quite new to this. Thanks!

Hi. I definitely know it’s possible, so don’t give up hope. I got into Harvard for an Ed.M. with a 3.3 undergrad gpa and 3.3 grad GPA. My GRE was Verbal: 167 (98th percentile), Quant: 160 (74th), and Writing: 5.5 (98th). A lot of times it also depends on various factors of the specific program you’re applying to. If the schools you’re applying to look at things holistically, which I think most would do, then you could make up for your GPA by making the other areas of your application stand out, like your letters of recommendation and statement of purpose. And you can try to explain your lower GPA without making it too much of an excuse.

What was your topic?

It didn’t matter in the end. I still got accepted to my first choice. I think I worried too much over a minor issue.

Has anyone applied for the Zuckerman Fellowship at Harvard? Have you heard back anything yet? Also, does anyone know how many people are chosen for the interview based on how many available awards they have? Thanks.

What were you doing when you received your acceptance?

This happened today... At 4:24 PM EST, apparently I got an email to check my status. At 4:34, I randomly woke up (currently in Japan for Universal Studios) and checked my email because I realized it was afternoon in the US. I woke up my husband next to me in a shaky voice saying, “Honey, I got into Harvard...” This had been my dream for so long and I really didn’t think I’d get in! I had only applied to one other school, so I was quite scared. I am so thankful to God. I am so happy, but it still feels so surreal! My husband just hugged me for a long time and I had tears in my eyes. Then we went to Universal and had a great day. -

I got accepted to the Master of Education Program in Teacher Education. I am so thankful!! And now off to Universal Studios. What I thought would be a conciliation trip is now going to be a celebration! Good luck everyone!

I’m wondering if perhaps they don’t fund the first year to make sure that those who are serious about the program will be the ones to continue and thus get funding afterwards, while those who drop out won’t have wasted any of the university’s money.

I think the person wrote like this because Trump is an almunus of Princeton. -
Fluffercloud asked, “Can anyone of you pls tell me how major of a fuck up it was?” And I’m saying that it wasn’t. It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things since he/she still has a great offer despite it.
-
You said that you already got an admission offer from your top choice school, so why would any of this really matter?
-
Yes, that’s what I’ve found out as well, but from the Search Results. I mentioned earlier that it was the first Friday of March for the last few years except 2013 when it was the second Friday, since the first fell on a Friday that year as well, but I had thought it was only for the Teacher Educations Program specifically. I guess it also applies to other programs too then. I’m really hoping we don’t have to wait the extra week!

Does the status change from “submitted” to “under review” or something like that in the middle or does it go straight to the decision? And where are you guys checking? It’s the HGSE application management page, right?
-
I ran out of upvotes for the day, but wow was this one of the funniest things I’ve read on here!

For my masters program, they told me that I will get my decision anywhere from March 1 - March 15. -
To those who applied for masters or anyone else who submitted applications in early January, does the HGSE application management page just say “Payment Received” (application fee) under “Latest Activity”? Do you know if the status is supposed to change once the application is under review, or is does it go straight to accepted/denied?
-
Did their website also use to say early March in previous years? I’ve read through all the HGSE threads here from the last 5 years or so, and it seems like people were getting decisions earlier than the site said.
-
It might depend on your program, so check to make sure. I know mine didn’t say anything about an interview. Btw, when do you guys expect to get your results if you’re applying for Masters? According to the results page, the Teacher Education Program seems to have given out acceptances on the first Friday of March in the last couple of years, except once when March 1st fell on the first Friday (just like this year). Hope we don’t have to wait an extra week for results!
