Wondering the average chance of getting off of the waitlist. Sitting here twiddling my thumbs......

Yes! You should let the program director know you would like to be removed off of the waitlist. This might help someone else who may have been also waitlisted eventually receive an offer. Congratulations on your acceptance!

ugh... just venting quick but super bummed out right now. i've been waiting to hear from my top choice about funding via a fellowship and just found out i wasn't awarded it, so therefore, they can't accept me unless someone else declines. i'm also next in line on the waitlist at my 2nd choice. my third choice accepted me at the end of january but i don't feel right accepting because i know that i would want to go to one of the other two if i got accepted off the waitlist. i know i have until april 15th to make a decision but i feel bad that i'm potentially preventing someone on the waitlist at my third choice from getting accepted. this waiting game really sucks.

The waiting is killing me. I am an alternate, and I'm wondering as more and more time goes by, are my chances decreasing as well? The school didn't elaborate on high/med/low alternate, so I'm not sure where I place.

Yeah the waiting is excruciating for sure. I still have yet to hear back from a program I interviewed at the end of Jan! Others have gotten offers, waitlists, and rejections from the program so I'm really confused. I also caved and emailed and am waiting anxiously for a response.

I just got placed on my first waitlist post-interview and I am worried about my mindset a bit... I don't want to take this as a rejection and get too down about it, but I also don't want to be too optimistic, especially as this school/POI has been my top choice since I started the process. I am also only waiting to hear back from one other school at this point, which makes things feel a little more dire. I'm trying to manage my expectations, but it's hard. All of my other rejections and assumed rejections have been softened by the thought that I still had my top choice on the docket, as it was my last interview. So now I feel sort of at a loss... I feel like I should be regrouping and thinking about next steps to strengthen my application next year, but I don't really want to at this point. I think I inadvertently got too attached to the idea of this program and POI being the perfect match for me, so now I'm trying to avoid clinging to the hope afforded by still being on the waitlist so I don't get wrecked when it doesn't happen... But it also could happen! So I keep going back and forth...
There's really no point to this post, I just wanted to get my feelings out to some people who might understand. But any advice about getting into a good mindset about this all would be appreciated!

I think that's it for this cycle for me. There's not really a point to this post other than maybe some kind of closure? I've checked this site countless times a day for so many months, but there's no need anymore, not right now anyway. But, I did want to say thank you to everyone who responded to my questions and everyone who has been so inspirational and kind. You all made my first process a little bit easier, so thank you. Might I even dare to say that I'll miss checking this site for awhile. Thank you all, please keep pushing, I am sincerely SO proud of all of you on this site. Go get those degrees!

For those of you that are alternates at programs, are you continuing communication with the POI during the waiting period? I know I could be potentially waiting until April to hear back about a final decision, but I'd really love to be kept in the loop. There seem to be so many possible outcomes between now and then - the other applicant could accept the offer but the POI could be deciding if they have funding for another student, the other applicant could decline but priority for funding might go to another professor, etc. I'm a control freak and would much rather have 100% transparency about the process, but am unsure what the norm is for alternates. I don't want to seem pushy or overbearing.

I'm in this boat (or nearing it) for 7 of my interviews. It doesn't seem like others have heard either.

"A student should not hold more than two offers for more than one week unless there is specific information (e.g. a visit is scheduled, funding decisions, advisor decisions) they are waiting to receive from the program."
So for example I've currently got two offers, but I don't have the final funding info for either of them. Therefore, I am not making a decision between the two until I have that info. What I have done is decline the offers and interviews for programs that I know I won't take over one of the two I currently have regardless of funding information- but I am not going to turn down one of these two until I have the funding information I need to make an informed choice between them.

Can the people who were waitlisted at Auburn or University of South Florida please message me their POIs?

Just got accepted to my top choice this morning, and I have removed myself from all the other schools. Hope that helps other people on the waitlist and waiting for interview slots!

I got VERY cold called. The POI said decisions would be made in the next 10 days via email but I received a call the day after my interview!

I am probably one of the posters you looked at in the results. Mine was just a generic email, no interview. Hope this helps and best of luck!

I am not one of those posters, and I haven't heard back from USF after my interview yet, but I am assuming those people were probably *not* rejected post-interview, since USF has 2 interview day options and one of those days hasn't occurred yet.

I’m not sure if I would mention “all my schools.” In past experience, I have heard that holding on to more than one offer at a time is considered taboo, and this may suggest you’re planning on doing that. I would rather just be vague and say you will get back to them with a decision as quickly as you can.

Thank you for the additional clarification! That's what someone else said too. I definitely don't want to confuse anyone or add additional stress. I just assumed based on what people were saying from last year, but it was a little confusing that they would email and say that decisions could go out mid Feb if the interview is also mid Feb.
