Thanks, eggsalad, I haven't found anything, so I'll really appreciate that.

it's an old one, but it's fairly comprehensive and based on my sample size of 2 that I currently know, it's quite accurate (ya know, accounting for the fact that 2012 and 2019 don't line up exactly on the same days of the year vs day of the week)

I know for a fact that Northwestern, Berkeley decisions have been made. American accepted at both.

Do you mean that all acceptances have already gone out?

Who among you political scientists can explain why there have been so few theory admits?

Are there few theory applicants on The Grad Cafe?

Does Theory comes last alphabetically among the subfields?

Because theory is largely the least popular field in terms of number of people. Job prospects are bad, a lot of people who would do political theory do phds philosophy instead, and a lot of programs don't even have programs in theory.

-Theory is a small subfield, comprising 10-15% of the discipline.

-Much of the wisdom that applies to the rest of PS has little bearing on theory -- see how the good schools for theory have little overlap with the USNWR overall rankings (for example, Notre Dame, Boston College, and Brown are all much better in theory than in any other subfield). It is true that some programs do not have theory, but the theory heavy programs make up for that.

- Admits are down at many institutions. Duke, for instance (t10 theory and overall) admitted one theory student last year. Many departments admit 3 or fewer theory students per cohort, which means they show up with low frequency in this forum.

Edit: I am currently enrolled in a t15 department, studying theory.

Is it normal to apply for around 10 schools and only get accepted to one? All my admissions decisions aren't out yet of course. I'm just wondering if I've already been accepted to one to not expect many other admissions. 1a/2r/0w/7p

Side note: I'm still waiting to hear from UCSD, UNC Chapel Hill, Georgetown, Michigan, Minnesota, MIT, and Vanderbilt. I'm studing American/methods. Anyone similar?

Depends on what you mean by "normal." Is it within the realm of possibility? Yes. Does it happen to some people every year? Yes. Was there some guy last year that applied to 15-20 places and got rejected by his safety schools but into NYU and like, Arizona only? Yes.

Assuming you're in at Madison, rejected at Berkeley and GWU, you can't interpolate that you'll only have one acceptance come the end of everything. Obviously it depends on your stats and written parts of your application, but Berkeley probably has among the lowest general acceptance rates of the schools you've applied to. Apparently according to someone earlier in this thread GWU only takes 4 Americanists and they're not a methods school whatsoever so you get a double whammy of weirdly low subfield acceptance rate and maybe not the best fit. UCSD, UNC, WUSTL and Vanderbilt are definitely peer schools to Wisconsin so I'd be surprised if you didn't get some bites there. The rest are kinda crapshoots for anyone but still definitely possible to get into them.

I applied a total of 10 schools, 17 programs (sociology and political science). I only have one acceptance and one interview. It is normal. I am waiting for MIT, as well and they will release results on February 13 and/or 14.

I am going to call them in a few hours... will update as soon as I speak to them.

the Great Lakes are finally thawing out of a cold blast, I think they may have been closed for the last few days.

It's starting to warm up now, and by warm I mean -2 instead of -15, so they may be in the office today. I'd check any university wide updates about the school being closed or not, if it was closed then that would explain the lack of movement on the application side.

Yup. According to the website they opened up at noon yesterday.  My family is in Chicago so I am tracking :)  NYC isn't AS cold thank goodness.  Also- if you search other departments at Northwestern (outside of PolySci) there were still notices going out all this week.

Thanks, that's super helpful. I hadn't looked back so far in the forum. One that I know about has a different date but the other 3 look to be about the same. Most of the potential overlaps would be between schools I have pretty clear preferences about, so that's one less concern!

who here hasn't gotten an acceptance? feeling kinda lonely here seeing all the acceptances. (congrats to those who got in to places!)

Me!  *knock on wood* though for good luck in the next few weeks :) None of the places I've applied to have sent out decisions yet aside from Northwestern, and that's not looking too hot right now either.

best of luck to you!

I've said this a million times probably, but schools that leave people in the dark are the worst. :(

Lol @me.

I'm 2 rejections, 1 waitlist, and 3 pending. Two of the pending (Syracuse and American SIS) should be releasing in the next two weeks or so
