Mnemonics2 Posted February 6, 2013 Share Posted February 6, 2013 I'd like to point out that a lot of the reported statistics for accepted people on the results board vary over a big range (the UCLA ones with gpa's between 3.4 and 4.0, for example). So there really is a lot of hope for people who genuinely have a good research fit with a school....even (maybe particularly!) if they don't have 4.0 undergrad scores from an Ivy and perfect GREs! Princeton, according to last year will send admissions/rejections in the third week of february. Some people already claimed Chicago admissions, but there is a lingering doubt if they were all sent. news2yous Posted February 6, 2013 Share Posted February 6, 2013 A friend of mine who applied to UCLA in IR was accepted today (without being contacted beforehand). I'm not sure whether that information is helpful to anyone, but at the very least it means you shouldn't lose hope just because a few IR spots were also announced on Monday. I second. To be really frank, I don't understand what people mean by "safety school" : does it mean one thinks s/he has better qualification than those who are expected to be accepted? Or one has the perfect fit? Or....ranking-wise you deserve sth better? We are not applying to undergrad programs so numbers do not determine everything......esp. if your "safety school" rejected you, it was not "safe" program anyway.....don't mean to be mean by any means. just a bit curious. I would have been so much happier not knowing they already started, and that each second means an exponential drop in the likelihood I was accepted. Someone said in the results page that the assistant said if you didn't get notified on the 5th, it means you were rejected. Also, the mail went to spam for some reason. This is true, but not all unsuccessful applicants are considered for the Masters program, so why lead on everyone? (I am not criticizing the school. That is foolish, I think, not taking into consideration the strength of the overall applicant pool and the numbers of people that apply in the first place.
