xuejia Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I just dialed the graduate studies coordinator at UNC, who said the bulk of decisions likely will be made Feb. 10. The days keep getting longer and longer... Dark-Helmed 1
Nords Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Someone should call Pitt I wholeheartedly second that.
gokpinar Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 From my correspondence with Penn State, I expect the first wave of admission results next week, last week of January. Targy 1
anxious2151 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Congrats to everyone who have received admissions! Does anyone have any intel on NYU? They released results on Feb 1 last year but historically a week or two later than that. Crossing fingers that they're going to go even earlier and make decisions next week... kainourgios 1
TakeMyCoffeeBlack Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Question: should we be responding to these formal informal acceptances? That is, when it's clear that it's an informative admissions letter, but not a personal one, should we be responding with our enthusiasm? Or can we save our responses for when we have questions?
jazzrap Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 :::insert sound of a balloon deflating::: same here
jazzrap Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I just dialed the graduate studies coordinator at UNC, who said the bulk of decisions likely will be made Feb. 10. The days keep getting longer and longer... Hi, I have also applied to that program. What's your field?
jazzrap Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Someone should call Pitt Today my POI at Pitt just gave a job talk at another program. It was fortunate that I did not apply there
xuejia Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Hi, I have also applied to that program. What's your field? Comparative, with emphases on China and comparative authoritarianism. Yours?
jazzrap Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Comparative, with emphases on China and comparative authoritarianism. Yours? exactly the same lol. Are you a master student at UNC or Duke?
xuejia Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 exactly the same lol. Are you a master student at UNC or Duke? Wow. That pretty much throws us into a zero-sum game here... Not currently a student, several years out of undergrad instead. I'll bet we applied to a lot of similar programs, too.

IR IR IR PhD Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I'll happily and humbly claim one of the South Carolina admissions! Does anyone know the word on funding decisions yet? I want to call the grad advisor but don't want to deflate my current elation... I think I'll wait till Monday and take the weekend to just smile before getting ridiculously anxious again. IR IR IR PhD Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Congratulations!!! Wow, things are moving pretty swiftly. I'm very proud to see everyone doing well so far. Definitely wait a bit to ask about funding. They may not know what your package will look like yet, especially if the funding comes from the University and not from program coffers. Ya I'm new to this whole process. I don't want to seem douchie but I also don't want to seem apathetic either? Happy to have this dilemma though, really. I hope everyone gets in somewhere soon!
rchlm_618 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Is it just me, or are these days becoming exponentially longer? I just applied to master's programs, and those seem to be later decisions than PhD decisions. Oh how I wish I had closure.

Nords Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Wow, things really are moving quickly. Congratulations to everyone who has been admitted already! Don't know if life was easier or harder before gradcafe came along!? Can't imagine suffering through this waiting process without this forum

Can't imagine suffering through this waiting process without this forum I'm of the opinion that this makes life a little more bearable, if only because we know we're not alone in agony. Hahaha.
cane14 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Did anyone apply to Minnesota? Any predictions for when they might release decisions?
mv0027 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 So, as it turns out, this forum is more addicting than originally thought. I still check it is frequently as before, just with a different set of emotions and less heaviness to each click. Honestly, it is probably more a function of being force sit in an office 40 hours a week. I can't wait to share quitting job stories in a few months....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yngq9NmOnFw
TheGnome Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I'm in at Boulder. Like so many of us, I'm on round 2. Wonderful news TMCB!! How are you on the wine front? An update on the bottle count would be nice . Anyone following this FB-debate? I saw the Princeton study earlier, but the other link is absolutely hilarious. Thanks for sharing!! That's not superficial at all. Thanks for the detailed answer dmet. I will keep that in mind if I end up in a position to ask such questions to Madison grad students. I'll happily and humbly claim one of the South Carolina admissions! I also got into Boulder! Congrats! Things are sure moving fast this year and it makes me happy to see the gradcafe-ers doing very well so far. I am out of positive votes for today, so I am sending verbal +1s to both of you. qeta Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Congrats to all the admits! It's really cool to see people getting in and being elated. Is anybody else's Gmail not working/giving a temporary error? Even though my schools are not sending out decisions for another month, of course this service disruption is bothering me way more than it should. What if a POI emails me?! o.j. 1
