Has anyone heard anything from Saskatchewan? My status has been the same since I submitted my application. Also from Manitoba? I know they said they would start sending out acceptances/rejections in March?

Hi! Waiting to hear back from Saskatchewan, Toronto, McMaster, Western, and UVic.

It is geared towards professionals. I've been working in Public health for almost 4 years now.  We do have a 2 or 3 students in our class who had come straight from undergrad but had done co-ops in Public health.

I have a long list of work experience/extracurriculars. I work in healthcare but under the public health side. Have extensive volunteer experience with multiple organizations, chair of committee, presentations at conferences etc.

Do you know if there are any students in your class that were accepted with healthcare experience that isn't directly related to public health?

In what sense? We definitely had some ER nurses, dietitians, A respiratory therapist which aren't *Directly* in public health.

Hi! Just thought id drop my stats:

-last 2 years GPA: 3.55

-2 years experience in healthcare

-2 years of research experience

Applied to: Lakehead, waterloo, western

I know my GPA is definitely on the lower side, so fingers crossed :(

That is actually a good GPA, combined with your experience, you have a good chance. I know some people who got in with much lower GPA (borderline), its all about how you present yourself in the letter of intent. Good luck!

Thank you! What programs did you apply to?

The waiting for UBC is tough. I think last year I heard (rejected) in April. Hoping this year is different.

No word from UBC either on my end. Only applied to their program. The wait is definitely killer.

Which program did you apply for? I also only applied for 2 programs at UBC. I kind of wish I diversified a bit as I have been rejected from one. I applied to the MSc in Pop. and Public health. Really putting the eggs in one basket here :(!

For those of you who applied to Saskatchewan, I vaguely remember them saying they would send out early acceptance offers at the end of February... Can someone confirm this?

Also has anyone heard anything from McMaster, UT, UVic, or Western?

I applied for the MPH program. The FAQs page says that for the MSc emails go out February or March. Hopefully they stick to that for your sake - April is eons away! (I'm really not helping am I?:D) Did you apply for the MSc last year as well?

I applied for the MPH last year but my application was super weak... Didn't spend alot of time on the letter of intent etc... Through some experience in the public health/health promotion world I was able to focus on a research based program vs. a practice based one (MPH). But yes, April is SO far away! Hoping the MSc sticks to the timeline. What does it say for MPH? Do you have a supervisor?

Posted (edited)

Is it only me or the Universities are taking longer time this year compare to last years?

Anxiously waiting from waterloo and lakehead.

My stats are:

GPA and cGPA 3.8

3.5 years of health experience- it wasn't public health per se but did some outreach work.

1 year of health research experience outside Canada.

Was TA for undergraduate courses, did some mental health volunteer.

Does anyone know of someone who got into mph in lakehead or waterloo without public health experience?

It sounds like you came back super focused - Best of luck to you this time around! For the MPH, it says "Letters start to go out in March and can still be going out until May." MAY!! And no supervisor needed for the MPH since it is practicum-based. Students are matched with Advisors instead who help with course selections and practicum placements.
