Just got my first taste of rejection from Chicago. Sad because they were my top choice, but at least it's Friday night! Congrats to anyone who got in there :)

Its strange you were rejected so soon. I'm canadian as well and havent heard anything back yet. I looked through your profile and you seem to be very strong too.

Thanks everyone, still plenty of schools left to hear back from so I have high hopes! @TeX4 I agree I thought I was a strong candidate, they did mention they’d received an “unprecedented number of applications” but they might just say that to everyone lol. Hope you get good news soon!

Congrats to everyone who got admits this week! And I'm sure the others will be hearing good news soon as well!!

I am addicted to checking my e-mail--I must be wasting hours on it everyday. I now understand why people become addicted to slot machines.

I think stats and biostats graduate programs are going to see more and more applications for a while.

1) Mainstream interest in Data science has been exploding and the insane amount/ways data is being collected by the healthcare industry will only increase the rate of demand for statisticians.

2) We're seeing some pretty insane growth to our economy and the new tax plan should keep that ball rolling. When an inevitable recession does hit and the entry level job market is less attractive, graduate schools will see even more applications depending on the severity of the pullback (e.g 2008).

I guess I will update mine as well!

In early December, I got a recommendation from two potential co-supervisors at Queen's University for direct entry into their Ph.D. in Statistics program, with a research focus in computerized experiments and cancer clinical trials.

On January 26, 2018, the DGS from Yale University emailed me saying that he recommended me for admission to M.A in Statistics. On the same day at 4 PM, I received an official offer letter. But the tuition including living cost is $65,000 USD, mannn!!! So expensive!!! :(

Sighh....should have applied to more top tier schools in the U.S.......................

A little bit about myself:

University of Toronto (Scarborough), CGPA: 3.47, Major GPA: 3.79; Mathematics Specialist in Statistics Stream Coop program, 5th year

15 Teaching Assistantships at U of T: Calculus II (2 semesters), Multivariate Calculus I (1 semester), Multivariate Calculus II (2 semesters), Introduction to Statistics (3 semesters), (Honours) Mathematical Statistics (1 semester), Introduction to Statistics for Social Sciences (1 semester).

Fulbright Canada Killam Fellow, academic exchange at University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Mathematics and Statistics Tutor at UMichigan

Statistics Canada Coop, one research publication from StatsCan; three conference presentations (two undergraduates in Montreal, QC, Canada and one at Joint Mathematics Meeting 2018 in San Diego, CA, USA); Three reading courses including this semester (all profs are very notable), one project course

Ridiculous GRE score tho... 161 Q; 149 R; 3.5 W :(

I learned that my LORs were much stronger than  I thought when I received my recommendation from Queen's University. A strong SOP too, I think.

This week is when I think the (general) stats admissions are going to start to pour out, based on 2016 and 2017.  UT, Duke interview, UNC, NCSU, and Texas A&M being on schedule is a good sign IMO about response times.  I am expecting at least two results from the following programs: Kansas State, Baylor, Duke, Virginia Tech, and Missouri.  Florida State and Columbia may not be out until late February/March.  Thankfully I am going to be pretty busy with school and work this week and I already have two offers so I am not that stressed.  I hope all y’all still waiting for a first admit will get one soon.

My friend got accepted into Yale Stats MS and he said that Yale has received more than 400 applications, and I guess that number will probably be the same for other grad schools' program in Stats. The schools that I have applied have not come out with any decisions yet and my fingers are so crossed now... Also congratulations to anyone who already got some acceptances!

Is that higher than usual?

Yes!

This is part of the email I received from the DGS at Yale University.

"Once again, we had many excellent candidates (over 400 this year for the first time), and you were among the best (we accepted less than 10% and expect a class of about 15 MA students)."

Hey guys, I have another question of admission and please help me!

I just received an offer from SFU but I heard that there is only a few weeks for making a decision. All of my application for universities in US haven't got any news yet :-(

Here are my questions:

1. Can I email to other universities, telling them my situation now, to ask them to tell me the status of my application?

2. Is it really really terrible to pay a deposit fee but go to another school in the end?

I really need help for these. Thank you very much!
