Decision-making difficulty
kayyyyy_ replied to metaleptic's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
To me, it seems like school Y may be the place for you. it's important to have that support system and it seems like the professor you'd work under is willing to take you under their wing. Furthermore, you'd be enhancing your educational development at the university because it targets exactly what you're interested in. -
I'm from San Diego and my family lives up in Portland and Washington (various parts). I spent a month up there and wow it was beautiful but I couldn't do it with the rain.... I was ready to come home.

As stated above, GPA and GRE are huge components. With that being said, you may want to look into programs that look at the applicant at their entirety before rejecting them. I know a lot of my programs I applied to have this "unspoken rule" of looking at GRE & GPA at the admissions office level and if you have below the criteria they want, they reject you right away. If you pass their criteria, you go through to the SLP department. Find out if the school does this, and if they do, don't apply. Apply to a school where the SLP department looks at everything.

Professor advised me to attend another program

I agree completely. If there wasn't something up, she wouldn't be saying something. It's definitely something to consider.. -
So happy for you yay yay

What do you wear to class?
kayyyyy_ replied to lindsayg1993's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
This is so funny you asked because I was wondering this too, so much so that I asked the student during interview days. They said clinical days you do dress up but on regular days, "bum like status" is totally acceptable. One girl said she looks night and day on clinical versus class days to the extent she wears big baggy sweatshirts and sweatpants with no make up. I definitely think it might depend on the program though. -
Regarding your LOR, I took leveling courses in an online setting. EMAIL THEM! Set up video chats or phones calls. 2/3 of my letters came from online professors and they were very strong. Also, when you give them information, don't be afraid to tell them personal stuff such as, your struggle getting into grad school along with what you do in your free time and also a resume. My academic professors wrote very personal LOR. It is very possible!!

Thought I'd start a forum about the universities you've been accepted to and then maybe listing some pros and cons of each... I know there are some of us that are starting to get acceptances and waitlists rolled in and some people have visited campus, met faculty so it may help us decide where to choose for our future grad program..?

Well that's a little freaking rude...

Have you not heard back either? When were you interviewed?

I AGREE! Holy cow, one of my recommenders literally submitted it the day of. & I think she got annoyed with me because I kept emailing her SO often checking in. If I could do it over, I would've done this!!!

Most apt complexes don't know who is moving out or what apt will be available until 30-60 days before. So with that, you won't know until June or July! Keep your eye out around that time.

Ahhh that's frustrating. I think my friend got the same email! Fingers crossed for good news. It that your first choice program?

I don't think you can see "notification results" on CSDCAS either.

I'm with you for wanting to know for person reasons. I don't like all the what ifs and I'll most likely be relocating across the US so I kinda need to know what's up and start setting that up.

Retaking gen. ed. classes post-grad
kayyyyy_ replied to mbf's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Check out California State University- San Marcos. I took Physics Sound of Speech and Hearing & it was super interesting and actually related to the field. It's part of their post bacc program but you can apply as a non-cohort option and just take the individual course. It's only 8 weeks so it's a pretty fast paced course but it was definitely "do-able" -
I just honestly feel for waitlist people. This is my 2nd year applying and I was waitlisted and it sucks. It would be a lot easier knowing that you don't have to wait until April 15th, or if you do have to wait until then it's because all schools release there decisions on _____ day, you know? I think it would be a lot less stressful for students. I have removed myself from all waitlists and declined my other acceptance offers because if I was on the waitlist, like last year, i'd want to know sooner rather than later.

I'm right with you. I've already received an acceptance to my top school so I am accepting that offer but I know there are some people on this website that are waiting for their top offer. One school I applied to said they would notify me late March/ early april for an interview and that just seems SO ridiculous to me. It's just super sucky that the time frames are so different, but it's understandable. Just wish it was all universal..

I don't understand how everywhere varies, and even with application requirements. I was just talking to my grandmother about this. Why do some schools require interviews and some don't? I almost with there was a worldwide deadline for schools (instead of December- March) and a worldwide notification (like they have to let us know by this time). For me personally, it makes me question the quality.. why are you waiting until the last minute to notify people that are amazing but COULD say no because they had to accept to a different school.

Is it too early to accept an offer?
kayyyyy_ replied to CCCaffeinated-SLP's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm with you except I had declined all my waitlists and interviews at this point. I've been accepted to a couple schools (one being my top choice) and I plan to accept there. I am visiting at the end of the month and will make my final decision after that visit. I think though just holding spots in schools that you probably won't accept wouldnt be beneficial -

Pacific University 2/24 Interview
kayyyyy_ replied to Akon's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I've heard from different programs that they waitlist about half of their acceptances. For example, if they want a cohort size of 30 they will probably send out 40 or so offers and then 20 on the waitlist! Hope this helps and I really hope you get in!!!!
