  1. I would think being out on the west coast might be slightly more beneficial if this is where you see yourself because of the networking aspect.
  2. I feel like programs expect this from at least one person every year, it definitely happens. It's not a situation you want to be in, but it does happen. Don't make a decision based on emotions but rather based on the reality of this situation. If Washington is a better program and you can pull off the cost financially, i'd say go for it. If your gut is telling you to stay at CSUN then keep your spot Definitely way out all options but don't make your decision based on a spot you already accepted and worried about that.
  3. GAHH I am so excited for you but also I know that this is probably a tough decision for you!! Being close to family (if you have the option) is always nice!!
  4. I work in CA! I've just heard Redlands is an amazing program, super supportive and has a good rep of producing amazing SLPs. I withdrew my app from Redlands because I was accepted into my top choice school but it was in my top 3 to attend there. sorry I don't know a whole lot of specifics!
  5. I worked with two SLPs and one graduated from Syracuse and one graduated from Redlands. Both told me to choose redlands over syracuse but they wouldn't give me specific reasons why. They hinted toward the disorganization of syracuse.
  6. I am a SLPA in California. I was a student athlete as well and I have a degree in comm disorders but entered into a post bacc program to take more classes that I hadn't completed before. I just applied this year and I'll be going into a graduate program this fall.
  7. Schools look at it all, but you may be able to write in you SOP that you retook these classes and why. I am also a SLPA and you may want to focus on schools that look at the whole package initially. You don't want to apply to a school that looks at GPA & GRE to get you through the door and then looks at you.
  8. Whats your experience? Where are you located? Are you able to move? What's your CSD GPA & overall GPA? last 6o units GPA? Gre scores?
  9. I know that CSUSM is more educationally tracked and SDSU is a good mix of both. I know CSUSM GPA is a huge factor to get you through the door. They don't look at GRE scores or letters of recommendation.
  10. I am SO happy for you! I know how you felt about this school and program! yay for you!
  11. I asked more personal questions such as how did you succeed with certain professors or how'd you manage your schedule sort of thing.
  12. I went and visited the campus a couple years ago because my cousin lives in Portland but didn't specifically visit the program because I wasn't applying at the time. The campus is right in the middle of downtown and parking is crazy. If you're totally a city person than I would recommend it but living in a huge chaotic city just isn't my thing which is why I didn't end up applying here. My cousin lives about 15 min away from downtown and it would cost us an arm and a leg for parking and about 45-an hour commute when it was hectic. I took the bus in once and it wasn't too bad and dropped me right off by the campus (you also have that option). Other than that, Portland is amazing. It definitely has a piece of my heart and I love it there, for visiting, not living haha.
  13. I gave my acceptance to St. Ambrose last week. It's been my top choice/ program since the beginning so it wasn't a hard decision to make. I chose them based on clinical experience and quality of the program. A HUGE pro for me though is a personal reason. St. Ambrose looks at you as a person not just a number in the graduate program. It makes me SO sad that so many programs are just numbers based and not actually developing you into a compassionate SLP but rather a robot. I only looked at schools (for the most part) that invest in you as the student not just the academic portion. Some people may or may not like this aspect, but I wanted to go to a graduate program where I feel supportive and where they know my story. It's also super reasonable for a private and out of state university! I am so so so excited to start here!!!!
  14. I submitted all of my apps before Christmas. I don't remember the exact date.
  15. You could try Fresno for spring admissions but I don't know if they "value" older students. I can agree with @Callen and say St. Ambrose really values experience and wants to get to know you as a whole rather than just numbers.
  16. I have no idea if they do different questions for out of find applicants but that's a super good question, I would think not though. All my interviews, except one, did general questions such as why SLP, why this program and that sort of thing. Unless the school is known for clinical based questions, I would just go in there and be yourself I know it;s cliche but they already like you academically, they just want to see if your personality matches.
  17. I got my decision from them early to mid march I can't remember the exact date but I have already declined my offer. I am not sure if they are finished with acceptances or if they have rolled out waitlists or rejections.
  18. Technically they "shouldn't" ask for a deposit until the 15th. It's the universal deadline. I am sure if you asked they would give you an extension.
  19. ^^ you're not allowed to work during the program but before spring of 2018 I was trying to get at.
  20. I think the family circumstances is a HUGE con in my book. If you can be close to your family, especially under your circumstances, I would take that opportunity. Plus everything @twinguy7 said I've heard as well!
  21. YOLO girl! What school would you "regret" in a sense not going to?

Are you talking purely for rent? Depends on your circumstances if you want roommates or not. Most apartments range 1 bedroom in SD from 1,000-2,000 a month..
  23. I am doing the same thing. I am looking at moving with a moving container. It's super easy. They drop the container off at your house and you pack it up and then they pick it up and drop it off at your new house/ apartment when you're ready to move. The cost is anywhere between 1-2,000 but depending on the amount of furniture you'd be moving it could be worth it in the end. I calculated the cost to buy a new bed, couch, tv, all the big stuff that won't fit in my car. It would be WAY more expensive then just moving it.
