  1. Thank you! After reading that, I am going to just take human genetics!
  2. Thank you so much for sharing your insight! I'm glad you are having a good experience!
  3. Hello! I took a class on Biopsychology and it was listed as Psyc335. I have read that Biopsychology can fulfill the ASHA bio prereq, but I am not sure if mine will work because in the course name is Psychology, and not Biology. When I previously asked a representative from one of my schools about the chem prereq, she said that the course just has to have chem in the prefix, so I assume it is something similar for Biology. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am currently signed up for Human Genetics for the Spring, but it would be great if I didn't have to take that! Thanks!
  4. Hello! I guess some of this depends on what schools you are applying to. Your scores are very close to the 150 mark, so that's good. If you think you can increase your verbal score to hitting higher in the 150s-160s and you can increase your quantitative to the 150s as well, then it is worth retaking. But only you know how much studying you could fit in between your due date and now to have a larger increase in scores. When I retook the GRE my verbal stayed the same (157) and my quant only went up 3 points! Yet, even with that small increase in quant I was happy. If you take it again, you will most likely do a little better just based on the fact that you already took the test once. If you decide to retake it, you could try magoosh for a week for free to see which areas you are struggling in the most, and concentrate your time studying on those. Other than that it sounds like you have a lot of really great experience so use that to your advantage in your statement of purpose! Good luck to you, I know how annoying the GRE is!
  5. Hello! I had a similar problem with one of mine and she didn't respond for three whole months! I just sent her an e-mail last Friday that basically said "Hello, this is just a friendly reminder that I will be submitting my applications in x weeks (december 15th). Please let me know if you have any questions or if you need me to resend any requests. I understand that you are probably very busy during this time of the semester, so I really appreciate you writing a letter for me!" My professor responded right away to that e-mail :). I think it helps to give them the exact amount of time they have left, because sometimes a due date seems further away than it is. Just make sure you are very kind and understanding in your e-mail. She probably didn't forget, just has other things going on. You could also consider making the e-mail reminder seem more indirect, as if you are sending it to all of the professors so maybe she won't feel as targeted. Either way I am sure she will not feel like you are being rude Good luck!
  6. I think the schools I choose include some less popular ones (Northern Arizona and NMSU for example). University of Arizona is definitely my dream/reach school, so I am holding on to it, even if it's not the most likely acceptance! Also update: just took the GRE and raised by quant score to 146 at least it's something! Thanks for the advice though, much appreciated!
  7. Thank you, it means a lot to hear that from a successful applicant .
  8. I am not sure if I already asked you this on another forum (if I have I apologize), would you mind telling me about your experience with Northern Arizona? I am seriously considering that university and would love to get any information about it. Thank you!
  9. I completely agree with you about the GRE. It sucks that one standardized test could ruin 4 years of hard work for me...I do believe those types of tests put economically disadvantaged people in a tough spot. Glad I am not the only one :(.
  10. If you don't mind me asking, how do you like NAU? I am interested in attending there (if I get in of course). Thanks!
  11. Hello! I was in the same boat, it really helped to give myself a concrete deadline to finish a draft, and from there I immediately had others read it. I found that when I discussed my draft verbally with other people, it really helped make sure I talked about everything that I need to. When I spoke to a professor (who is on the admissions committee for UA) about personal statement, she said it serves as a writing sample since we will have to write a lot in this field, and it helps differentiate candidates with the same scores. She also stressed the importance of humble bragging, you have a bunch of skills that make you a great candidate, now is the time to tell them about it! Of course, if someone has a poor GPA/GRE, the personal statement will not erase those deficiencies. Good luck to you!
  12. Hello! What is the application process like for these online programs? Do you just apply at any time?
  13. Hello, I noticed that you mentioned writing about being bilingual in your essay. I would also like to highlight my second language skill, would you perhaps send me your's so I can get an idea on if I did it correctly? I would very much appreciate it! Thank you!
  14. I have taken UNC off my list, because I realized I am not a good fit for a variety of reasons! I do appreciate your honesty and advice. Good luck if you are applying :).
  15. I really appreciate your very kind and informative response! This process is so overwhelming and at times disheartening so it really helped to hear encouragement. You have a really great writing score, which I've heard is valued most! I recently starting looking at past acceptances on gradcafe for my programs, and there seems to be some variety in scores and GPAs. It oddly makes me feel better that people who have higher scores did not get in, because it suggests that GPA and GRE are not the "end all." I wish you the best of luck on your applications! Thanks again!
  16. Hi everyone! I took my GREs and got a 157 verbal, 4 in the essay, but a 143 in the quant section. I have a 3.7 GPA. I am going to retake the GREs in 2 weeks, but am not feeling too confident? Does anyone have any experience with a very low quant score and still got accepted? Thank you!!! My schools are in my signature if you are interested.
  17. Hello! Good luck to you as well, awesome GRE scores! Would you happen to know if your friend had a good experience there? I have never been to NMSU, so any insight is welcome!
  18. Sorry to jump in-would you mind looking at mine as well? I would greatly appreciate it!
  19. Did she say anything about just getting the 300 score? My quant score is vastly different from my verbal and writing score but I was able to get a 300. Thanks!
  20. You are not alone! My quantitative was a 143 (14th percentile) . It sucks because otherwise my scores were pretty good.
  21. Thank you so much! Good luck to you!
  22. I would be moving to another state! I am just looking for schools that will accept me into the full master's program, not just one that will allow me to do my prereqs. Maybe I should consider Longwood! Good luck to you!
  23. Remember, most schools do not require your application to be verified by the due date, of course it is probably best to submit early :). Here is a link to a list of programs and if they need verification by the due date: https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/participating-programs-2/index.html
