  1. Ah I see! It is definitely alright to wait a year! The time will go by fast Good luck.
  2. I know that I'll be taking on around $60,000 in debt but for me that's not too crazy...Am I crazy to think that? I think with my wage combined with my husband's wages will allow for me to pay off my loans in about five years.
  3. I was wondering the same thing, and from what I gathered on grad cafe, transferring can be pretty difficult. As another poster mentioned, you would have to contact prospective schools to figure out if they would accept your courses from the other institution. Another option would be to drop out of this institution after this semester and just reapply in the fall to other places, without trying to transfer credits. Good luck!
  4. I also would advice against relying on programs that don't require GREs because these are also often the programs that only accept very high GPAs.
  5. I agree with the other poster, I think retaking is a necessity. I would at least try to get your verbal in the 150s, over the 50th percentile. Unfortunately, most schools will use your GPA and GRE scores to cut through the applications and may not get to the rest of your application. Good luck!
  6. Hello! I don't think your GPA will hold you back. Like others have said, try to get your GRE scores in the 150s. One thing that I think helped my application (I have a 3.7 and a less than great quant score) was my personal statement and my letter of recommendation. For my top school, I really tried to align my personal statement to their goals and interests. Definitely discuss your area of interest in research! Look at it this way, I noticed that there are people who had both higher GPAs and higher GREs than me that did not get accepted to programs that I did. I am not at all trying to brag, however clearly there are plenty of schools who take into account multiple factors. A 4.0 GPA is amazing, but it is not a ticket in to grad school.
  7. Well thank you I decided to send them an e-mail in the end and I was accepted to my dream school . Glad it worked out for both of us!
  8. No problem! I was also worried until the department clarified
  9. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Similarly, the school that I accepted the offer to gave me a formal acceptance from the department, but the graduate school let me know that they will send the official acceptance after the check my official transcript with my degree. I graduate in May, so I will have to wait until then to receive this official final admissions, but the department told me it's nothing to worry about, just a formality. It sounds like you might be in a similar situation
  10. I am also having these thoughts! I try to remember that it was hard work that got me here, and it will be hard work that takes me further. I am going to focus 100% school and am also going to attempt to ENJOY what I am learning. We can do it !
  11. Hello! I do not have another master's degree, but I will say that if your GPA is good in a graduate program, I think it absolutely helps your chances. I would think schools would like to see grades that are more telling of how you would do in a master's program.
  12. Declining Temple university as soon as they send me an e-mail (only received acceptance by postal today).
  13. Many of the schools I applied to mentioned that the ASHA requirements needed to be standalone subject courses (not stats as a part of research methods for example), so I guess if your Stats course was all stats and no sociology then it works. I guess schools will look at the syllabus to determine if they can accepted it too! I was just worried to take any risk.
  14. I would be careful before jumping into a psychology or sociology focused stats course, most schools only accept these requirements if they have the subject in the course name, for example STATS101 being accepted, but PSYC121 not being accepted. I could have misinterpreted your point though!
  15. I second this! If you are more math inclined, take physics. Although chemistry has math too, I found it to be bearable.
  16. I was accepted into the 3yr program and my scores are all in my signature! I would definitely find a professor that matches your interests and reach out to them. Highlight any research experience because they seem to like that.
  17. I like the idea of this hybrid because it may help if you have to draw diagrams or tables or something like that.
  18. If there was a deposit, you will lose it if you back out. I am not sure what happens when funding is involved, but if you do decide to decline school A, you should accept B first. That way you are locked in somewhere.
  19. Good luck to all of you! I am sending positivity your way I am still waiting on Temple, but will be sending them an e-mail to take me off of the waitlist as I enrolled in my dream program!
  20. Life happens! As long as you apologize I don't think you are harming anyone. Although this isn't the ideal situation, I think they will understand. You have to go with your dream school!
  21. I did this! It was the same situation for me. I sent my deposit to my number 2 school and they day later I was accepted into my dream program. This all occurred before the 15th. The crazy part is that it was a mail in deposit for the number 2 school, and the letter had not even arrived there yet. In this case, I called the office to let them know, as I had no e-mail contact since everything was sent by mail. I found it was better to not explain why I was now declining, but instead just apologizing and saying my decision is now to decline the offer. I wouldn't mention anything about the other school, but that's just my opinion. Here is a sample e-mail: "Dear x, I recently accepted the offer to your program. I am grateful for this opportunity, however I have now decided that I would like to decline the offer. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by my decision and wish your program the best in its continued success. Please let me know if there are any further steps that you would like me to take in order to resolve this situation. Thank you once again for your consideration." Don't feel bad! This happens and maybe your decision will allow someone to have a spot off of the wait list, which I am sure they will be happy about . Good luck to you!
  22. Has anyone received an acceptance from the department and then received an e-mail saying it has gone to the graduate college for review? I am not too worried as it seems they are just checking the GPA requirement, official transcript, and degree confirmation. I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this...
  23. I think it depends in part if you have a mail-in deadline or one you can accept online. One of my programs had a mail-in one and it had to be postmarked by the 14th, since the post office is closed Sunday. I would assume for online ones it is 11:59 p.m.
  24. I got accepted off of the wait list for the University of Arizona! This was my dream program! Good luck to you guys!
