  1. Could anyone recommend what places to visit around here? I am from a larger east coast city so I was a bit confused about how large the down town area is! This responses are definitely making me feel less nervous to go here though
  2. I completely agree with the above comments. It's worth it to go!
  3. I don't think it will annoy them! I sent my top choice that wait listed me an e-mail confirming my interest and reasons why I thought they were the best fit for me. I also thanked them for considering me. It doesn't have to be a long e-mail at all. They responded very quickly with a kind e-mail about the wait list and thanked me for my e-mail. I think it is a good idea
  4. That's a good point too! I don't think going to a big name causes any harm, and if you really like the school then why not Best of luck to you!
  5. Does anyone know anything about Univ of Arizona's wait list?
  6. Mid-April? That's so late! Most schools need decisions by then. Oh well! Thanks for the update
  7. Just in case anyone needed it, here is the link for the Northern Arizona one: https://www.facebook.com/groups/418902685212145/
  8. I think I am following it! Do I have to be added to the group or am I good as is? Thanks!
  9. I have heard from working SLPs that the graduate program name and ranking really does not matter. If names held more weight then more of these lower ranking programs would have much lower job placement numbers than top ranking ones, which isn't the case. I don't think going to a large name hurts at all though! The place I shadowed at was in the process of hiring an SLP and all they talked about was her experience and her salary. I recommend going where you can really see yourself and where you can gain the most experience working with populations that interest you!
  10. Although completing a post-bac with UofW doesn't guarantee that they would accept you into their full program afterwards, I definitely think they would look at you favorably. I think that you will have many options if you complete a post-bac and apply to more schools. I completely agree with you about the location as it is a great idea to study close to where you would like to end up. Best of luck to you!
  11. I had the same dilemma as I am also an out of field applicant! I got wait listed to my top choice, and I am not sure that if after I finish my first leveling year in a 3-year program, I could try again and transfer into my top choice's 2-year program. If transferring is not possible, I thought about doing a post-bac and then trying again. I discussed this with multiple people and they all recommended that I accept an offer to a 3-year program no matter what, since it is true that schools that already accepted me could reject me the second time around. I only applied to 3-year programs this cycle because I felt more secure knowing that I can finish my entire degree at one school. Your case is a bit different as you have very good stats and only applied to 2 schools, so I feel like you have better prospects of getting into more schools after a post-bac. It is true that you will be in a different pool of applicants once you finish your prereqs, and it might be a tad more competitive. This is something to consider. Have you thought about doing a post-bac and then applying to more schools, in areas that are closer to California, or do you only want to apply to UofW's 2-year program afterwards? Congratulations on your two acceptances and best of luck to you!
  12. Anyone have one for Northern Arizona University?!
  13. Still waiting on UTD and Baylor, these aren't my top choices so I wish they would just tell me either way so I can be done!
  14. I completely agree! I think applying to five is a good number, and make sure you have a variety in terms of tuition costs, ranking, etc. I applied to seven and realized that I cannot see myself at most of these schools lol.
  15. I have no idea but judging from the results page and knowing how expensive their tuition is, I would assume a fair amount. I am most likely going to decline my spot at George Washington once I hear back from all of my schools, so hopefully that helps someone!
  16. If you want to end up in California, I would definitely choose SDSU. I've been to Tucson and it's a smaller city in comparison to San Diego, and San Diego also has more mild weather. I couldn't apply to SDSU because I am a leveler, but it definitely seems like a cool program, plus it would be nice living right near the ocean! Good luck!
  17. Still waiting on UT dallas, Temple, and Baylor. I'm feeling like rejections might be heading my way from those, but I am really ok with that! I am also waiting on the wait list for University of Arizona, so if anyone has been accepted there and does NOT want to go, please decline soon! They are my top choice.
  18. Thank you very much! Do you have any recommendations of places to go around there? When I last visited I wasn't quite sure where to go besides the campus. I plan to visit again and just wanted to have a better plan of where to go. Thanks!
  19. That is great advice! Thank you for your help!
  20. I really appreciate your insight! Working on Native American populations was definitely something I would interested in doing as well, and that was something that caught my eye at NAU. It's hard because I am coming from a large city so I am worried I won't be happy there... Best of luck to you during the rest of this application season!
  21. Since I am a leveler my first entire year will be prerequisite courses, and very few of them being at the graduate level. The leveler year sequence at NAU meets all of the prereqs I would need to enter the 2 year program for UoA, with a couple of extra courses. Of course, if I cannot transfer in the end it's not the end of the world, since graduating is my goal lol. Thank you for your insight! My biggest concern with NAU is that it's too small of a town, but it seems like Las Cruces in NM is pretty small too.
  22. Hi everyone! I'm currently trying to decide if I should go to NAU or New Mexico State University. Both are pretty small towns, and I just can't decide which is better! I want to do research on language acquisition and gain clinical experience with bilingual clients (preferably Spanish speaking). I am also interested in possibly trying to transfer to University of Arizona after completion of my post bacc courses. If anyone has any opinion on either of these programs I would really appreciate them!
