  1. I was curious if anyone knows about the reputation at UH Manoa as of recently? I know that in the past their program was not the most highly revered, but has it changed? Also, I was curious if anyone knows if non-resident students get any financial aid (not in a loan form)? THANKS!
  2. I highly recommend taking multiple practice tests, where you give yourself the full allotted time! For the math, there's a dozen of math practice questions that I would recommend taking on the Magoosh site. For vocabulary, which is going to be very reflective of your abilities as an SLP, look up "High Frequency GRE Vocab" https://quizlet.com/42069269/top-50-high-frequency-gre-words-flash-cards/. This helped me a lot, especially when I was cramming on time and couldn't look at the 300+ words.
  3. I took a gap year and when I asked each recommender for a recommendation I politely asked them in an email, included the course that I took with them, the grade that I got, and any identifying information that would help them put a face to a name. Hell! Even put a small photo of yourself if you think that would help. It will also make for a MUCH better letter of rec if you do the brute work and put together a folder including your resume/CV, your transcripts, and any projects that you worked on/research. I hope that helps!
  4. Hello! I'd love any information from any of you that are attending a CSU school! I'm mainly curious about prerequisites and transferable classes! Thanks
  5. What school did you end up choosing? I know I want to take at least 2 classes this semester and another over summer but I'm worried that they won't transfer over. I've reached out to admissions but they're a bit hesitant giving me advising help since I'm not technically admitted yet.
  6. I feel like most schools will look at each person's entire application. Obviously having a low GPA/GRE is a red-flag, but even if one score is significantly lower, they will still review it and look closer at other things (i.e: experience volunteering, working, personal statement, etc.) California schools seem to me like they only look at your stats before they open up the whole application, but not all. Go on EdFind and check out their GPA/GRE facts and see which are most applicable to you!
  7. Usually they don't really have a hard minimum score. If you're low on the GRE they usually will weigh your personal statement and GPA a bit heavier to give you the benefit of the doubt.
  8. Hi!! Looks like we're applying to roughly the same scores! How do you feel about the pre-reqs that all the CSU schools require? I feel like I should try to take some online?
  9. I'm pretty sure those are all of the ASHA-required courses. I'm more so talking about classes like: Aural Rehab, AAC, Autism, Counseling, Clinical Methods, Speech Sound Disorders, Fluency, etc., the classes that are just like specialized courses that they consider "pre-requisites." Good luck on a post-bacc though
  10. I keep seeing that California schools are notorious for taking their own students, specifically CSU's. I think the reason why is because they have SO MANY specific pre-requisites that it's nearly impossible for someone to be as 'well-matched' and competitive as their own students. I went to SDSU and have a BA in speech language hearing sciences but am not applying to SDSU. For this reason I am looking into taking some extra classes that I didn't: Aural Rehab, Clinical Methods, AAC/Autism, and Speech Sound Disorders. I have a decent GPA and decent GRE and great experience working/volunteer but I'm not sure if I'm still a strong enough candidate. I'm curious what your opinions are on this? Is it worth it to take all of the extra classes and spend time and money to "catch up" to other applicants?
  11. So I graduated from SDSU and theres actually a handful of classes that I feel should have been offered (since they were offered at other colleges). I've noticed that most California schools only accept their own students because their own students are the only ones who have taken all of the courses they expect you to. So far I have to take aural rehab for any and every college but I'm looking into AAC/Autism, research methods, fluency, etc. I'm looking at USU and ENMU online courses. I just don't know if it's worth it to take a bunch of pre-req classes that cost a lot of money if the school I end up accepting doesn't require all of them. Should I wait until summer? take a bunch now so my chances of getting in are higher? only take Aural Rehab since it's the one I for sure know I need? Thanks!!
  12. Hello! Does anyone have any info about the CASper interview? I'm a bit nervous but mainly because I can't prepare for it. I'm specifically applying to Eastern New Mexico University but I know other programs do CASper interviews too. Any advice? Thanks!
  13. I just started submitting my apps and I realized that nobody has created a page for the Fall 2020 application cycle. Good luck everyone!! I'd love to hear if anyone else is applying to the same schools
  14. Hi! The application deadline is January 15! You definitely have time!
  15. Is anyone else getting 7 emails of the same email every day from SFSU?
  16. I'm applying to the schools in my signature, would love to hear from others applying there!
  17. I received $500 per semester, however, this is less than the cost of one unit. Very difficult to justify considering our field does not place emphasis on how prestigious a program is.
  18. I found out roughly 8 (or less) weeks after submitting my application. I wish that they offered more funding. Congratulations!
  19. ETS is great for practice tests and Magoosh was better for just memorizing the vocabulary which you need for the verbal section. I found all the magoosh words on Quizlet, so I wouldn't spend money on the official thing. ETS for me was nearly identical to my overall score. Good luck.
  20. I see that you chose Fullerton! what made you choose Fullerton over Long Beach? Just curious.
  21. The new 2020 ASHA board is clarifying that you MUST have either a physics or a chemistry class. Starting in 2020 they won't accept just any physical science. Hope that helps
  22. Those are very competitive scores. They recommend you retake it only if you have under a 300 combined score, typically.
