  1. I've spoken to many colleges about this myth that they favor their own students and can tell you right now that they don't. The reason that it appears that they favor their own undergraduate students is because their undergraduate students have taken all of the courses that they need to in order to be up to speed with their graduate level classes. This is why some graduate programs expect you to have taken Aural Rehabilitation but some undergraduate programs still do not make it a requirement. They take so many students from their undergraduate program because they are the most prepared. My counselor told my friends and I that students from San Diego State University don't get into Boulder and that it wasn't worth applying to. Out of 3 students the 2 that did apply both got in. Don't worry about what other people tell you about a school. If you like the program, apply and keep your fingers crossed.
  2. You'll be 100% fine applying to competitive schools if you get a decent GRE with all of the experiences and the high GPA you have.
  3. I'm also waiting to hear back but haven't had too much luck with calling them. I had an informal interview where I went to campus and met with the admissions director but I don't think that really counts as an interview. Who knows! Maybe they're doing waves of interviews.
  4. I posted this elsewhere but thought that it would be helpful here too: Your best bet is to try and study REALLY hard for the GRE or take some online courses to bolster your current GPA. If you don't want to take any additional courses I would recommend looking into non west-coast schools, specifically private schools. They are notorious for accepting people with lower GPA's but the catch is that they are typically more expensive since they are private and hence offer more spots. Also I'd recommend looking at EdFind (https://find.asha.org/ed#sort=relevancy) From what I found these are schools where a very low GPA (2.5) will be considered: -Francis Marion University -Montclair State University -Xavier University of Louisiana
  5. So I was interviewing with a group for San Francisco State University and my computer kept glitching with small things such as freezing or I couldn't hear someone speak. All of this was fine except in the last 5 minutes of the interview Zoom completely crashed and I wasn't allowed back into the chat. Any advice for when this sorta thing happens? I'm really concerned because SFSU is one of my top schools and I'd be devastated if it was make or break. Thanks!
  6. Commenting on this old post because I'm curious if anyone has any helpful advice/examples from previous years of what kind of scenarios are brought up! Thanks!!
  7. The interview was 4 hours long from what I remember. It included a writing portion, probably to ensure that you can write as well as your personal statement, it involved a quiz that was based on basic SLP terms, and then a phonetic transcription segment followed by an interview with some professors. Definitely spruce up on terms, scenarios, and glance over at the IPA transcription. Good luck!
  8. Definitely take it with Hall and I'd recommend doing the 8 wk plan since it's not THAT much work and since there's 2+ assignments each week you're always on top of it. My other class is a 16 wk option and its soooo slow that sometimes I almost forget to do assignments.
  9. I want to say it was around $1600 which was a little under $300/unit fo two classes which is actually really cheap in comparison to other online schools that do it by cost of credit rather than semester tuition
  10. Are you a CA resident? I don't believe that I had to fill that out but I'm born and raised in CA so now I'm wondering if I should reach out to them haha. I was going to apply to East Bay but didn't like the area too much!
  11. I also got the interview to SF state and am also waiting to hear from CSU LA. I think LA's interview is end of feb/beginning of march is what the department chair told me. Good luck! Are you applying to any other CA schools?
  12. Does anyone know what Eastern New Mexico University's reputation is in the career world? I'm curious how they stack up in comparison to on-campus programs? I've heard that it doesn't matter but in a job interview would they favor a student with an on-campus degree? Also, if anyone is in their distance masters program (not as a leveling student), how do you like it? Thanks in advance!
  13. I think you should email at least the person that invited you and maybe another professor if they stood out! Definitely seem over-interested since they are looking for students that care.
  14. I don't believe that you'll receive an email if you don't get an interview, but I think you would get one if you are rejected. Maybe you're in the second wave of students and they haven't sent you the interview email yet because they haven't finished scheduling the first round.Keep your hopes high, but expectations low. I hope that helps.
  15. Hi! Maybe it's because I applied to mainly west coast schools, but I have only received one interview and haven't heard from any other schools yet. Don't worry, they'll probably come in the next couple months!
  16. I feel you guys on this subject because most of the schools I applied to "favor" their own students because their own students have all of the prerequisites that they are looking for. It's odd, but that's why they're so competitive I guess.
  17. To all of the posters that mention how expensive the online schools are, I HIGHLY suggest you apply to ENMU because classes are significantly cheaper and they are also an accredited school with lots of alumni, 100% praxis pass-rate and employment in the 90+percentiles! I'm taking some online courses through them and liked them so much that I'm applying to their distance program. The only fall back is that they require you to be on campus for ~4 months.
  18. @bilingualspeechlife I would email your advisor and CC the financial aid department!!
  19. Congratulations EMDSpeech! I was accepted to NYU and Emerson last year and thought I would reach out and let you know that if you can explain why you believe that you should be awarded financial aid/scholarships, they might offer you a $5,000 grant. This isn't for each semester or year, but it is a start and could help you decide Best luck!
  20. ENMU has a voice and fluency course that you can take over the summer. It's pretty strange to have all three combined, like samiamslp said.

  22. I would urge you to take Intro to Physics and take it credit/no credit. I recently have been talking to admissions about the new 2020 changes and they are getting more and more strict about what they are accepting. An alternative would be to reach out to the schools that you are applying to and make sure that they will accept this class as an alternative. Good luck!!!
  23. Hey Laurel! My interview is on Thursday! Let me know how yours goes!!
  24. Has anyone taken online classes at ENMU? I'm pretty sure classes start in less than a week and I haven't received any information about a syllabus or anything. What was your experience with this? Any tips? I'm taking Aural Rehab with Hall and Research and Evidence Based Practice with Bennett. Thanks!!
