Admissions can definitely seem like a crap-shoot sometimes. I've heard of people getting rejected from "safety" schools and accepted to higher-ranked programs, so don't despair just yet. Like @laura120 said, different programs may value different things. Stats aren't everything!  I was rejected my top choice (it was the cheapest and only one town over) and accepted at another school with the exact same ranking. I think in my case I didn't tailor my essay to school A, explaining why I wanted to go there, but I did for school B because it was part of their prompt. Also, the bitter/cynical part of me thinks that because school A was a state school and I would have had in-state tuition, they might have picked an out-of-state student over me so they could get more money (they've been doing a TON of fancy new building projects lately). The good news is that I am loving my time at school B, so all's well that ends well. You have an interview and several other schools to hear from, so don't lose hope!

I am in the same boat. I applied to eight (most of which are competitive) and have been rejected by one as well. It's very easy to become overwhelmed with anticipation and concern. The important thing to remember is that even if you didn't get into a school you believed was a safety, it might not be because you weren't a good candidate. It may be because they feel that their program just isn't the right fit for you. I'm not the kind of person who believes in fate but this process has really forced me to believe in having faith. The right school for you will choose you in return. And if you don't get in this year, you'll grow from that experience and have a better understanding of applying the following year. The waiting period is tough and I know this sounds cheesy but the best thing you can do is believe in yourself and your ability to be successful in this field. Good luck!

I couldn't agree more with the posters above. Even if you just get waitlisted to one, there's people who also applied to 8 schools and have to choose one. Lots of people have to deny acceptances which allow you for you to get off the waitlist. I know some one at University of Nevada, Reno, who where taken off the waitlist in early August but they're still in grad school and at the end of the day is getting a degree. Another thing to think about it is, a paper, gre scores, and gpa don't tell the whole story about how you will be as a clinician. If you don't get in, you can be an SPLA which looks great on applications too. You can bulk up your application in that time.  So, you've got this. Stay positive and don't let grad cafe or Reddit make you go crazy. I know I have let it do that to me and it doesn't help anything.

    Here are some thoughts!
Prepare: questions specific to the school, ask about housing, teaching opportunities, internships/externships, where recent alum are employed Outfit: slacks, blouse, and heels are acceptable. If the school offers a tour of buildings, etc. just make sure you'll be comfy! Other tips: get there at least 15 minutes early, bring snacks/water, don't bring a massive purse or bag, be friendly Ahh the interview process will feel awkward and tough, but just know that you did your best so long as you prepare! Also, the schools invited you because they liked your application, so you're already on a good side.  Try to distract yourself with other activities/hobbies so you don't dwell on interview stuff - it's definitely not just you. I had to do all of this to keep me sane haha

I've started bullet journaling and have spent quite a bit of money on art supplies.. It makes me feel more organized in the midst of this chaotic time and also feeds my online shopping addiction lol

I've started started trash picking furniture and refinishing it in my garage, if that's any indication of how anxious I am waiting to hear from schools. If this whole SLP dream doesn't work out maybe I'll have a career in...trash picking.

I've been getting into minimalism lately because this is the perfect time in my life for an existential crisis.

Ahh I can't do anything but think about it! It is so taxing... haha. Waiting is definitely THE WORST. I only applied to the University of South Carolina, so I am super nervous! Decisions started coming out March 1st last year. Anyone else applying here? Best of luck to everyone!

I’m literally in the same boat. However, i took a gap year and i know a lot of my classmates last year got interviews in mid/late March and still ended up getting into schools so i know it is definitely possible! I just keep reminding myself it only takes ONE school to make it happen! But i agree the waiting is torture! Best of luck!

I'm so glad to have seen everyone venting!!! A lot of these are the exact feelings i've been having and it was really nice to just have it validated. Whoever said they only breathe after 5pm (when emails couldn't arrive), I lol'd and so relate haha.

I received an email confirming an interview on February 22nd. Did anyone else receive an Interview? If so, when?
Also, does anyone have an advice for LLU's interview? Does anyone know what it has looked like in the past? What should I expect? I had a friend interview at New York Medical College recently and she felt that it was a formality. Is LLU's more of a formality, or are they actually weeding out applicants?

I learned the hard way. Do not ask/talk/joke about coffee or any other caffeinated beverage. (I recommend the Starbucks at 1690 S Tippecanoe Ave over the one on  Redlands Blvd.)
If you're driving the campus, make sure you know well in advance where you can park, develop a couple of parking options, and make sure you budget enough time to walk from your car to your destination and refocus on the interview. If you're instructed to park in P3, please be advised that the drive aisles are tight and the functional design is ... unconventional.
If you're coming to campus in the morning, you may encounter a surprising amount of traffic and a lot of sun glare. If you're driving to LAX after the interview, do what you can to leave campus by 3 PM else expect the worst of Southern California traffic.
