philosopuppy Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Anyone else in at GSU? (I'm particularly interested to know if anyone got one of their fancy named assistantships!)
iKantEven Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Accepted to both Rice and UIUC. Marcus_Aurelius 1
The_Last_Thylacine Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 I emailed to ask if I was off the waitlist at Florida State, and they had just voted to accept me even though no one had yet declined! Really nice of them! directingdirections, theophaniac, in praxis and 5 others 4 4
Duns Scotus Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 I wasn't sure where to ask this, but I was on the GSU page looking at their placement, and under the 2019 tab, third from the top, it says someone got into "Duke and Connecticut." Has Uconn started releasing acceptances, then? Any other confirmation on this? Here's the link: https://philosophy.gsu.edu/graduate/placement-record/ akraticfanatic 1
iKantEven Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Accepted to UChicago MAPH. Great, but ridiculously expensive program, even with the Humanities Division Award. Declining soon.
SmugSnugInARug Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Accepted to Duquesne off the waitlist! So excited! Going to accept. SexandtheHaecceity, kakaz, Nothingtown and 2 others 5
Eternity Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 (edited) Anyone claim UW-Milwaukee? Edited March 9, 2019 by Eternity
leveller Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I got an automated email from Colorado on March 6th to check my status. When I did, I was greeted by confetti falling down the screen over a letter telling me I'd been accepted. However, I've gotten nothing else (as in, no emails from Forbes, nor anything about a prospectives visit or anything like that). Has anyone else gotten the same? Or, maybe more importantly, has anyone else gotten more from them? Very Hungry Caterpillar 1

armchair_revolutionary Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 In at Marquette. After two application seasons this is my first acceptance to a PhD program in philosophy. Seems I have had much better fortunes applying to theory/ comp. lit. programs. Makes me wonder...
nonbeingandsomethingness Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 In at Tufts Very Hungry Caterpillar and Marcus_Aurelius 2

I did follow up, actually -- should've mentioned that here. Forbes said the automatic email was indeed correct. He also said there wouldn't be an official prospectives visit, but that I was welcome to visit if I wanted to. He seems... much less on top of things than Pasnau was when I got waitlisted there a couple years ap.
leveller Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Sardonic, you might check the application site and see if it says anything about your status. Idk how any of this works, but it's possible that might tell you something.
Very Hungry Caterpillar Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Also in at Tufts, and will likely decline soon.
Cytem Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 In at Tufts and brandeis, both with surprisingly tight funding, argh. @Very Hungry Caterpillar May I ask about your funding package at Tufts?
Dropdeuce247 Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Can anybody claim UofFM? I saw someone post an acceptance. They are a top choice
WillisBell Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Can anyone speak to how to interpret having not heard back yet? Are schools more likely to be taking their sweet time with acceptances or putting off sending out rejection emails?

Varies by school.

WillisBell Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) I was told I would be an excellent candidate for NYU MA in Bioethics (in my NYU rejection email) and they offered that I could apply for free, I've heard in the past that the NYU MA program doesn't receive much time or resources from the department. Is it still worthwhile to consider applying? Edited March 18, 2019 by WillisBell

Is it still worthwhile to consider applying? Unfortunately, no, it isn't. It's a "cash cow" program meant only to generate money for the university and to keep enrollments up. If you want to get an MA in philosophy, apply to legitimate, funded terminal MA programs. Eternity, ackackack, The_Last_Thylacine and 2 others 2 2 1

Honestly, that they'd so brashly solicit a program that probably isn't in the best interest of most students makes me question NYU's priorities. But, since I got the same email, I might be biased ? fromthearmchair and Stencil 2
