Here's a little about me and the programs I've applied to: Undergrad at state school not known for science - 3.58 GPA. 1.5+ yrs undergrad research. 2+ years post graduation as a tech. I've worked in 3 labs and my LORs were from my 3 PIs. Invitations: UC Berkeley Molecular & Cell Biology U of Chicago Cancer Biology Harvard BBS U of Washington MCB Rejections: UC San Francisco Biomedical Sciences Haven't heard from yet: UTHealth MD Anderson Biomedical Sciences UC San Diego Biomedical Sciences Stanford Cancer Bio I'm also an underrepresented minority and have participated in STEM minority organizations/events, therefore that may have pushed my application along as well. I applied by the deadline for all of my schools (which is partially why I haven't heard from UNC yet, for example). But yeah- most schools don't start reviewing until 12/1 anyway? I think it depends on whether the program has rolling admission or not. I have attended several virtual fairs this year and got this news: for schools that do not have rolling admissions, some of them will review applicants starting early or mid Nov though they may send out invitations / rejections all at a specific time. It depends on the schools and the programs. I emailed some schools before I submitted my applications. I can't imagine it makes much of a difference, especially given that so many schools state they do not start reviewing applications until the deadline passes.
