If you go to this site and scroll to the very bottom it will give you info on the computer courses you have to complete before starting the program. It also explains why the offers are the blue square "conditional" at this time because your final admission depends on having finished the course. Thank you for creating the fb group :) I joined it, maybe we can help each other out with the course. I have already started the  edX – Introduction to Computer Science one listed on that website and it's kinda tough starting out.

"If you don’t have a computer science background, you have to complete these two courses before the beginning of the fall term. You may be given a conditional offer of admission in the meantime, which will be fully approved once you submit proof that you’ve taken these courses."

I will join the Facebook group as soon as I'm certain I'm attending Mac. Going to spend the weekend deciding between Mac and UofT. I think at this point I'm 70% Mac, 30% UofT but I haven't done much research.

if you go to mosaic and click on view requirements, it will tell what the conditions are on your offer. Mines only says "official documentation is required" which according to iris means that i need to send in my official transcript.

Did your official letters or any other material you received from mcmaster indicate anything about the "computer science courses" because mines never mentioned anything about it. I assumed that if they wanted you to do those courses, they would tell you.

I haven't received an official offer yet so I wouldn't know, I just assumed that was the case...my bad :P

I have computer science background and I am willing to help those who are trying to have some computer courses before the beginning of the fall term. Just send me a mail if you have questions and let's discuss (no answer guaranteed, though :P). BTW, I thought it may be more helpful to learn Python or Rubi or R for eHealth fields, but the webpage recommends C++/Java ...

that is because hl7 is mostly based on c++/java

I like python to be honest. i have no expereince with rubi at all.

i dont know how they inform ppl that they have to do the courses...i never got told, while i dont have a background in computer science, i took some IT courses and am a PC enthusiast anyways, so i would say i have a informal background. i guess ill email iris and see if i need to do those  ourses

did you get an official offer yet?

join the fb group, i am just waiting for more people to join before we start posting stuff

No, I have not received the official letter ...

I think maybe there are related HL7 Python package already. (I am a Python fan, too)

It's not a bad news for me that most of HL7 is based on C++/Java since I mainly use C/C++. haha

She didn't tell us we had to do the computer courses but it says so on the website. http://mscehealth.mcmaster.ca/apply/admission-requirements/ Although my conditional offer is only based on me completing 4th year and sending in my transcripts, it would be beneficial to do these 2 courses so that you have a bit of background in what we'll be learning (I know nothing about coding so I'm definitely going to be doing them). I'm not a huge computer person, I'm really doing this program in the hopes of becoming a health analyst at a health unit so I'm hoping this is the right program for me. I have already accepted Queens but will be declining in the next couple of days.

I asked about the courses in my interview and the response I got made it seem like it won't affect the admissions but they highly recommend us to take those courses to have a general background. I was told that I wont really need the courses until the winter semester but it would benefit me if I take it before the start of the program in September.

I was wondering if anyone is planning to work full-time while being in the program. In terms of the intensity of the program, is it possible to manage the coursework with a job?

i dont think it will be possible, i know a few ppl and they said that the workload can get tough especially with trying to find a placement as well only adds to the pressure.

You might be able to do a part time position or something but full time has gotta be tough.

You guys are right i am gonna look into those courses just so i can refresh my memory

have other ppl recieved official letters as well? or is it just me bluejays and musicfreak?

I am still waiting.... My interview was a week after you guys and maybe that explains the delay.

I think it will be beneficial to start those computer science courses going, so we do not need to worry about it when the program starts.

I don't think full time is possible too, but part-time might still be manageable. I have the same question too. I will be doing the course based program, some financial support from part time job will be a way to self sustain living expenses etc

By the way, have you heard back from U of T yet? I know people are still waiting to hear back.

I am guessing that it takes about two weeks for the final offer, so mine would be sent out around 4/16 ...

Instead of learning coding, I may have to start learning Canada's health policy and so on ...

Same goes with me. In the meantime, I would try to learn some fundamentals of Canadian Healthcare System.

If anyone's taking a C/Java course. Would be happy to help. :)

I was just wondering do we have to pay tuition for the time when we are out there on our internship. I am unsure how it goes over there n it's added 12k for me. I will have to manage my finances accordingly.

tuition is per course, so if you are not taking any courses during the internship, you wont be charged. You might have to pay a lil bit to keep up with health insurance or something. where did you get the 12k figure from? seems a lil high to me

For those of you who heard back from UofT, was it a letter in the mail, or email?

I heard back by e-mail on March 25th however I am leaning towards eHealth at McMaster. Most likely will reject the offer from UofT.

I found it on the fees and funding page.

Regarding the tuition for that time period, we'll have to pay as per the information shared by a current student.
