  1. I just had to retake this one. The one I reported last month was from a singles class I took at church. Lo and behold, I got similar results...ENFJ - "THE PROTAGONIST" Lol.
  2. Don't worry about it! My scores are super bad for Ph.D. programs, but they were from undergrad. I'm just worried about scores expiring. How's everyone holding up!?!?!?
  3. Congrats, @RoxieB! IT HAS BEGUN! LOL.
  4. Thanks! But Penn State started contacting students right after Christmas in regards to interviews!
  5. Damn! That's a lot. I think what stresses me out is the fact that some schools I applied to usually contacts students right after the holidays/holiday break aka the week in between Christmas & new Years that makes everyone feel lost. LOL. A lot of other academic departments have been active since even before Christmas came. i. am. sweating. bullets.
  6. Same here, buddy. I'm constantly refreshing my e-mail waiting for that notification or a phone call. Whichever works for the adcomms. HAHAHAHAHA
  7. Hey @Dalmatian ! I, too, have cried in front of professors. To be honest, I used to joke around crying during a final, and it finally happened during my first final exam during my MA program. I was so stressed out and didn't know I was depressed at the time that I didn't sleep the night before. So when I took the final at 4 PM, I thought I was okay. Then I realized it was such a detailed Inferential Stats exam that I started to panic. I went through the exam a first time and didn't answer much because I blanked out. Thinking, "Oh, I'll just go through it again and something will eventually make sense again." It didn't. The first guy finished within the allotted time, and my prof extended it another hour. But lo and behold, I still didn't remember ANYTHING due to the lack of sleep and having a panic attack, I started crying. At some point, I realized at the moment, I was a failure. Got up. Turned in my exam. And left the computer lab crying. Called my family back home because I was super distraught. The next day, my professor talked to me about the whole situation. It turned out to be the best thing that happened. I ended up going to counseling to work on things and even finally went to the doctor where I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Hopefully, you're feeling much better. Also, beyond this implicating ordeal, I've cried in front of my undergrad advisor when I got rejected from all Ph.D. programs I applied for the 2014 application cycle. Sometimes a cry is the best thing to happen. We're human. It's natural for us to do so
  8. I really suggest you take in as much as you can like @abenz said. You can target places like the Pew Research Center, RAND Corporation, NORC at the University of Chicago, etc. Used LinkedIn (that's why I do). But really take advantage of your courses not only to learn new things, but also pick up skills you lack that you think will be useful.
  9. Hey @speechfan222 There's a lot of type of research that you can do with master's degree in Sociology. For instance, I'm in health/medical research since my thesis and MA was centered in medical sociology. What are you interested in? By answering this question, you can narrow what field you can work in. In general, however, as long as your versed in statistical analysis, you should be a strong job candidate.
  10. @GreenEyedTrombonist ! That sounds awesome! I'm an applicant in Sociology (with most being dual-degree/title programs). This is actually my third time applying. I remember 2014 being so bad (8 rejections one after the other) and all that money I spent applying!!!!!! HAHAHA
  11. Just wanted to wish all of you guys a very happy new year! This week between Christmas & NYE is so stressful! I know that once the clock hits midnight & come Tuesday morning, it'll be freak out season for all of us. Unlike past application cycles (that I participated in any way) I feel like this is the most supportive of all three! I am looking forward to talking to everyone more as the application season progresses. It's been one heck of a ride! Can't wait for the wonderful news!
  12. That sounds horrible! But I'm very glad that things worked out! What programs are you applying for?
  13. Hey @skhann! What I meant is that this is my third time applying. I unsuccessfully applied for Ph.D. programs in 2014. Got into a fully-funded MA program for the 2015 application cycle. And currently applying for Ph.D. programs for the 2018 application cycle. Sorry for the confusion.
  14. Hi @dorkstep From what I gather, you are a competitive candidate. However, with US schools, you need to consider fit into those school's department. It's not aiming high because who wouldn't dream of working/getting a degree from those schools. It does come down to fit. Hope this helps or makes sense.
  15. Oh man! If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? I bet it must have been a fortune! With practice (this is my third application season), I learned that quantity is not necessarily a good thing. I picked the schools that was a "GOOD FIT" for the department.
  16. Titan sounds horrible! How many schools did you end up adding by not applying to those schools?
  17. Usually, the minimum is no worse than a 3.0. However, the average for incoming PhD cohorts vary. It usually hovers around ~3.5 and above.
  18. What do you mean external funding? From what I've gathered/understood, you have an outside source that's going to fund your PhD program. From what I know, it doesn't usually have pros and cons. It will make the dispersion of university fellowships/assistantships easier to disperse since you'll be one less person to worry about. I don't think this situation warrants you an upper-hand so to say with admissions committees. Did I read your post correctly? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  19. OH MY GOD! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE corgis! I have a corgi puppy now. But I would love to run a Corgi Cafe!
  20. Is it me? Or is it just slower this year as the departments haven't sent out interviews, contacts, etc.? This dreaded week between Christmas & New Year's is usually the start of freak out seasons since some departments start contacting prospective students! LOL. How's everyone doing?
  21. I don't think that's justified. Preparation for Math varies across universities. Some only require basic math applications while some make you take up to Calculus 1... AT LEAST... Freaking Calculus 1!!!!!
  22. YESSSS! Applying gets so expensive that's why! GRE scores are $27 per school. Plus a lot Graduate Schools charge AN AVERAGE of $80 to $95 per school submitted application. It does add up and with this type of economy/job outlook none of us can afford to apply to more than 4 or 5 schools per year. And it adds up if you keep applying!
  23. That sucks! This would be freaking crazy if it were true! I'm in the social sciences and might have to retake it. What's the purpose though?
  24. I understand your frustration! Self-uploaded transcripts (I suppose...) are used by adcomm's to admit students into the grad school/program we apply for. Getting an official transcript is meant for record keeping purposes at the graduate school/department level. 6 of the 7 programs I applied to only wanted uploaded copies of the transcript; and the officials aren't required until you get accepted. One school wanted TWO OFFICIAL transcripts sent - which maybe is about eliminating the whole "we need your official one when you get admitted;" however, which is a losing situation for those who don't get in. There's also the whole cheating/falsifying issue. So it does make sense! I would rather have all universities in the US have ONE BIG database of everyone's transcripts that's free and doesn't cost us any money at all!
  25. What sucks the most is that some of my applications changed the status from submitted to forwarded to department within a matter of days of submitting them. What's worst? the results page supposedly predicts when we'll get contacted and two programs I applied to should have reached anyone by e-mail this week of limbo between Christmas and the New Year. FML.
