  1. I'm personally against doxing (no matter how awful he is), but when someone is this toxic you would think mods would handle it.
  2. CSE will be considered as "CS" (some US CS programs are even listed as such). That said, S(W)E could also be fine if you intend to do research in that area. Your ability to get into a graduate program in the US will be less about the acronym on your degree and more about what you actually did and intend to do once you start graduate studies. Also if your links are your only CS-oriented courses you may want to check targeted schools for their recommended, and sometimes minimum, qualifications on courses. For example, Pitt requires courses in Intermediate Programming (CS 0401) Discrete Structures (CS 0441) Information/Data Structures (CS 0445) Computer Organization/Assembly Language (CS 0447) Theory (CS 1510 or 1511) Languages (CS 1520 or 1621) Systems (CS 1550 or 1651) to be admitted. So look at your prospective courses in each and see if they cover what is required by the graduate schools you want to go to.
  3. Could always try to send an email to whoever is coordinating the visit (not professors), but yeah mine had the info in the invite letter.
  4. Generally you are awarded interviews because they (industry, academia, w/e you are applying for) looked at your application package and said "this is good, lets talk to them". I doubt they would return to the application package to make the decision when they went through the time and effort to interview you. It would negate the entire purpose of the interview.
  5. They should give you a pdf with all that information soon with: how soon you need to tell them if you are coming, how much they cover (UCSD is covering hotel/food/transportation, I just have to get reimbursed for my flight which is unfortunately more than the maximum allotted since it is cross country so I'll end up paying 150 out of pocket. Worth it), and your agenda of the events while there.
  6. Probably just be yourself and inform them of whatever you prefer. If it is an issue for them to do for the length of a visit it will be an even bigger issue to do for 4 years. So better to know how accommodating they are now (if this is an important issue for you).
  7. That is tons of time for a professor. Maybe start worrying in the afternoon of the deadline but 1 week is like 1 year to LOR writers.
  8. Got one of those as CS, probably getting them because we are listed as graduate students on mycuboulder. I doubt it is a sign of anything, especially since a few were for continuing students or those working on their dissertation.
  9. I have Google Fi and when a lot of spammers call my number Google has already marked them as potential spam, so I have that going for me. I had gotten over that until yesterday night when I got an invite to an interview/open house weekend. Back to flinching every time I get a notification.
  10. Some schools give first years a fellowship depending on their profile. There are also stipends which I think are different than TA/RA but I think usually you are appointed TA/RA to get your pay.
  11. I like Kimmy Schmidt's quote for this: “I learned a long time ago that a person can stand just about anything for 10 seconds, then you just start on a new 10 seconds. All you’ve got to do is take it 10 seconds at a time.” Thinking about just making it through admissions, then your PhD, then your jobs, then your life... all that anxiety will crush you if you try to solve it all at once.
  12. It could be someone who got them over a certain period of time but put them in all in the same day and then didn't read that you could put the date you received a notification. But if there aren't any similar results it might be a troll. No matter where you go they will be lurking under every bridge.
  13. Do you use gmail? You don't need the periods, it will still get there. let.me.in.plz@gmail is the same as letmeinplz is the same as l.e.t.m.e.i.n.p.l.z... etc Though not sure if non-gmail emails do the same.
  14. Not sure how work experience at a top EE company could ever be seen as a negative for admissions. My xp pattern is: undergrad -> 4 years industry -> 2 years MS and have had people mention 4 years industry as being a good part of my package.
  15. I received a private vimeo video from CU-Boulder that had information (about the labs there, living in Boulder) recently. It is just information they give everyone who applied so you can be informed, like fuzzy said it doesn't mean anything other than you are an applicant.
  16. As @Comparativist stated, each department will tell you to include their code or not. For all of mine (except MIT who didn't take the GRE, hint hint for everyone else who hasn't caught up with not using vocab as a way to predict research success) they listed that I should just do school codes and not to worry about department codes. Check the FAQ for your programs.
  17. I hope you at least watched The Entire History of You and Be Right Back before quitting. Some of the best television ever. And of course Shut Up and Dance, but that one is pretty brutal.
  18. Mock tests will score you a little higher, I wasn't prepared for the sticky keyboard, sticky mouse, sticky table, smelly room, etc. Lots more distractions on test day, and of course knowing it is the real deal will stress you more than knowing it is practice.
  19. I don't know what clinical psychology is like but my field is filled with beards, like a bunch of wizards casting spells from their MAgiCal books. I would just keep it, if they want to judge you for having a beard is that really a place you want to spend 5 years?
  20. I think you'll be fine as long as you are a good fit for your programs you applied to. We don't know what is in your SOP or LoRs but if both are great, then your package is good enough to get into any of those schools. There is of course the possibility you don't if there are applicants that are a better fit but that is just luck of the application year (unless you aren't ever a good fit then you need to research more into the programs you apply to). Those are some pretty great programs so even good people are turned away each year. As far as adding a few more schools, if it isn't too late I probably would add another 2-3 (and if your wallet allows it of course). But I would only do that if you are a good fit for the schools you add, otherwise it is a waste of time and money.
  21. Probably less interview-ish than an interview weekend but definitely still treat it as an interview even if you are likely to be admitted and it is just a visit so the school can sell you on attending. I'm sure there have been offers that are rescinded after meeting the prospective student, so be on your A game. Results Search had one of the schools I applied to as having an admissions weekend that determined funding (who would get RA, etc) so it is probably best to just walk into the event with the expectations of an interview weekend.
