  1. I was wondering if there is anyone currently in a grad program (either part or full time) and working. I'm starting my online master's program this summer, and I got offered a 20-30 hour part time job as an admin assistant. I don't know if I can handle working that many hours and balancing my course work... Still need the work though because I know my grad school and bills can't pay itself! haha. Currently, I work as a behavior therapist in ABA and I want to leave that job because it can be draining and I'd only work 4-6 hours a day. I wanna hear your experiences and insights
  2. I agree with @AlwaysaFalcon, you’re def going to end up where you’re suppose to go. I have yet to hear from 2 other schools, and my advice is to keep busy, talk about it with your friends/support system. I didn’t think i was going to get accepted anywhere, and I made a backup plan just in case that happened. Plus there’s always next cycle you can apply to. It’s never about how long it takes to finish the journey, but as long as you finish (very cheesy i know). Good luck to everyone!
  3. Thanks for letting me know! I’m surprised they don’t do interviews, since a lot of schools do. But fingers crossed!
  4. I think i submitted my application around Feb 7nd, and applied for the Fall 2018 distance program based in CA
  5. May I ask which online program you applied to? I know there’s several different cohorts, like there’s a few in Florida. But there’s also an online program based in California. Still waiting to hear on my application for anything...
  6. Most online master programs are 3 years, since it works at a slower and part time pace compared to a traditional 2 year program that works full time and taking more classes.
  7. Thank you! Been trying to find this group hope to connect with anyone who is joining this program this summer. Anyone from California going here?
  8. When I was applying and reading the discussions on here, I felt very discouraged when people who say they had 4.0 GPA's and high GRE scores because I was a pretty average candidate based on those numbers. But I got accepted somewhere and got an interview (still waiting to here back)! It's def a numbers game when you apply. And I think the schools that took a look at me was because of my volunteering and good letters of rec.
  9. Awww I would say for any video interview, just keep practicing and be yourself. My GPA is around 3.5, and my GRE was 145/150/4.5. But I had lots of experience from working as a behavior therapist. volunteering at a hospital, private clinic, public school, and I did over 80 hours of observation.
  10. Thank you! I honestly didn’t think I’d get accepted because i wrote a short personal statement that was one page, but I think they put more of an emphasis onto their video interview and the timed essay. Overall, i had an averageGPA and GRE score. I applied to NOVA, for their California cohort but haven’t heard back from them.
  11. I know a few of my classmates have heard this morning, and were given a spot to the program. Just gotta wait a few more days!
  12. Received my first acceptance to University of South Carolina for their online distance program that starts in May the day before my interview! I'm so happy I just got in somewhere and relieves a lot of stress!
  13. Got my first rejected from Grand Valley State a few weeks ago which really made me feel defeated. But I have an upcoming interview with Cal State San Marcos this weekend, and I'm waiting to hear good news from the 2 other schools I applied (either an acceptance or interview! )
  14. I would recommend doing Uber since you can do it during at time, or selling some of your old stuff on Poshmark or Mercari. I know it isn't much but having some kind of money come in is better than nothing.
  15. I honestly don't think I did good on the video interview... I was so nervous that my responses are only 30 seconds long. This cycle was very stressful to me that I feel like I'm almost half-assing these apps. Think I'd do better if I applied after a year break
  16. First time applying here! Which programs are you applying to? California State University San Marcos and Northridge, Fresno State, NYU (the online program), and NOVA (another online program)! Total of 5! Where are you from? California! Obviously I want to state in my home state or do an online program where I can visit on the summers or a few weeks. What are your biggest concerns about applications? My GPA, I haven't calculated it to the exact T, but my undergrad and CSD GPA is around 3.4-3.6 (still in the process of taking 3 classes). My letters of rec, majority of them are from professionals instead of professors. My GRE that I still have yet to take! I have a bunch of experience, but hopefully they'll take that into consideration!
  17. i was wondering if I can ask what your stats was? I'm applying for the May 2018 cohort! Speech@NYU have been so helpful with my application and they're always calling to see how my application is going.
  18. Yes I think I will be taking a break from this website until after applications... It's so overwhelming seeing people with high GPA's worrying about their application and I only have a 3.4-3.5 trying to apply in California and online programs. Thank you for the advice and good luck to you as well!
  19. wow thank you so much for the excel spreadsheet! it helped immensely and i think i found a couple of schools to apply to
  20. Hmm the program advisors had no knowledge whatsoever about Californian students taking their NY program and then getting certified in CA, which seems a little weird now that I am thinking about it... I saw on ASHA that we do need to get certified to work in schools, but I'm not sure how that works. Maybe I'll try to ask an SLP who went to a program out of state and came back to their life in CA!
  21. It seems like a lot of schools will take your high grades and GRE into consideration more than someone who has an average GPA and GRE. I have an average GPA of between 3.4-3.5 but I've volunteered and observed to help counterbalance my low GPA and GRE. But for your side note question I have about 30 observations hours with medically fragile and special education children, and over 200 hours of volunteer work in the hospital and private practice of speech therapy.
  22. Hi all! So I'm looking into applying to a NYC school that's online, but I live in California. I know that programs and licensing requirements are different in each state. But is it possible to get your master's in NYC and get certified in California? I was so sure that you can get your master's anywhere and just take the Praxis/boards in the state you want to work at. I don't want to waste my time applying to NYC, only to find out that the requirements aren't the same for California and I'd have to start my life all over in NY.... Anyone have any knowledge on this?
  23. kayyyyy_ was it hard for you to find a job as a SLPA? I'm located in SoCal, specifically San Diego and I always look at job listing and rarely find any. I want to become a SLPA just in case I don't get in the first time around of applications!
