  1. UCSD. It's expensive as shit, but the connection you'll make at UCSD is worth it. Plus, while you're there, see if they have tuition scholarship programs based off your grades in the first year. Good luck.
  2. They're not required. The visits are mostly there to help you understand the program more so you can decide on which school is best for you. If you're not interested in the school, don't bother. But, you can learn a fuck tonne of things about a school in person that you won't learn on paper. Many people can attest to changing their mind about their "dream" school after visiting.
  3. Yep. Just promise to wear clothes and I'm sure you can wear just about anything.
  4. Wait. How did you think it was spelt?
  5. Time to accept you're rejected. But if you're truly concerned, feel free to email the department. But you have a 98% (guessed) chance of rejection. Apply to jobs.
  6. It is good that you're preparing for a rejection. I would consider hiring a professional resume writer. When I didn't go to a PhD program in F17, I was unemployed for 7 months because I just couldn't get an interview. I hired a resume writer and got a job offer a few weeks later. It wasn't cheap, but my income more then made up for it.
  7. As @PsyDGrad90 pointed out, don't worry about getting rejected or something. You're already accepted. This is just an opportunity for you to meet some of the faculty and get an idea of who you might want to work with and have them get to know a bit more about those students admitted. It's more of a meet-and-greet. It is not an interview, really.
  8. Yes. To your question. Yes. Congrats.
  9. Yeah, best thing you can do is set a time and stick to you. I run Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7-9p (I give myself a range to account for life) and then Sat starting 10-11a. You get so used to it that you don't feel right if you miss it.
  10. I tend to not think about it. I just do it. Even when I feel too lazy to do it. I always feel better after.
  11. Most of us are alone. My answer? The gym (see above).
  12. I think this is a lot of the reason why so many people get rejected. Not knowing your research focus and not tailoring it to the specific school fails to answer one major question that should be addressed in every SOP: "Why this school?" A good SOP clearly defines this.
  13. A journalist who doesn't like to read... ? I can see why they rejected them.
  14. Yes. Universities like to keep their options open. They always admit more than they have, because they know that the majority of the students admitted will go elsewhere. Imagine if I got into all 18 programs. 17 schools would have newly open spots. That said, the chances of getting off waitlists are very slim, because of the over admittance. I know TAMU physics admits 5 times their quota, knowing they will likely fall under it (i.e. 20 spots, 100 admitted). Honestly, you have a remarkably higher chance to get accepted first round than get accepted off the wait list. (I'm sure our statistics majors would love to find the numbers on that.) I know TAMU had an issue where one year they admitted 70 for 15 slots and only 4 came (says a lot about a program, I'd think), so good thing they didn't send out mass rejections.
  15. I go to the gym 5 days a week, in the morning (6am), and run 5k for 3 days out of the week, in the evenings.
  16. That means you're waitlisted.
  17. I guess those new grey hairs are worth it, eh? Unless you got an email shortly later that said "I meant rejection letter...my bad".
  18. I suspect you're implying additions, which I already intend to add myself, as it is best not to allow the general public access to. As you're fine with editing the School Names, I'll go ahead and remove the capital "Of" name, that @DRMF pointed out.
  19. Yes, the data for the school names came directly from @TGCA who is the lead administrator of this website. (Sorry TGCA for tagging you).
  20. To answer both your questions: First, for those programs that aren't on the list, no you don't add them to the program list, you will simply type in the program name and ignore the error it gives you. If there are enough of the same program, I will add them to the list, later, which will automatically remove the error without any additional input from you. So, just type in whatever the program is called. Second, The names of the universities are provided as data sources from TGC administration and are the same data points you select from when you submit your results. These names and variations will remain the same, as they are key to a future tool that is being developed to allow people to search for deadlines, in the future.
  21. You are speaking to someone who posted over 5 years ago. It varies from program to program, but most unis will email you to let you know. The "silent wait list" is not uncommon and that just means universities wait until all decisions are made before they reject everyone who didn't make the cut.
  22. Well, I know you were reading that hoping it would end differently than it did. lol I know I was.
