A personal statement is a way for the admissions committee to get to know you better beyond your transcripts and resume, so if there is something that they should know to get a full picture of you than you can tell them how much you're willing to divulge. You can be vague and talk about it in just a sentence or two about how it affected your grades or if you wanted to say more you could make it part of your story that you're telling about yourself in your ps. I didn't have any health issues myself necessarily, but a family member did and so I included it in my ps. Schools want to get to know you, the more they know the easier it is to tell if you would be a good fit for their program, these parts of your story also say something about you and your character so in the end it'll probably help more than hurt if you're comfortable to mention it. Absolutely apply! You never know what could happen. And like you said if you don't get in, then it wasn't meant to be. Sounds corny, but you have to put your trust in your own abilities to succeed in this process and you will get there, if it's not this time, it will still happen if you want it to. But it doesn't hurt to still try this time. And sometimes schools don't accept applicants because it doesn't seem like their a good fit, not necessarily because of their stats. The purpose of a PS is for the admissions committee at the school to get to know you, your experiences, your academic abilities, and if you are a good fit for their program. It is becoming an increasingly difficult task to do as schools shorten the word limit because of the amount of applications to get through, but striking that medium is definitely a tricky thing! For me, I wrote an outline first one what I wanted to include to supplement the rest of my app and then I wrote way too much then edited down further and further. I asked many people (speechies and non-speechies) to read it and give their honest opinions. This really helped me. For me, I wrote about how life events and experiences have led me to where I am now and how that passion fueled my academic interests and motivated me to gain experience. Because while you don't want to write a sob story, those experiences for most have impacted their decisions and become one of the reasons they want to be an slp so it's an important factor. So for the sake of a word count, I did my best to weave all those aspects together. It's definitely not easy! Let me know if any of you have questions! Thanks! I like it, I didn't go through the interview process because I got in off the waitlist. They mostly just want you to take all the classes before you get in because it may affect the course load and graduation time.

Look at asha edfind stats if they're available. Newer programs may be easier to get into, but I would advise that you apply to schools that have current accreditations so the end result isn't as risky. Let me know if you have any questions! You absolutely have a chance!

Because your major isn't in CSD, you would have to either do a leveling program first or an extended masters which is typically three years and the leveling year is first. They have one at the program I'm in at San Jose State.

Hi! I applied to and got into both, basically you share classes and everything with the other school. I asked this question during the interviews for them. The differences come in during technicalities between research groups (if you chose to) and tuition differences and who your advisor would be. But basically, you're all in the same program.

I know, it was one of the toughest parts of the whole process of me too. For me, I did it like a class. Doing it everyday for a certain amount of time, lots of practice problems, quizzes, and practice tests. It's also very important to go back and check to see what you got wrong and see why you picked that answer versus the right one. Also, the night before the test, don't study at all. Just try to relax and get a good nights rest. I didn't know you were doing ABA, that's an awesome thing to write about! However, I don't think one aspect of an application offsets another. Usually they look at your application as a whole, but depending on the program, they might have standards to meet for gpa/gre that effect your chances of progressing to the next round. That being said, just do your best. You have to believe that if you don't get in somewhere, it wasn't the right program for you and everything happens for a reason. I didn't have super high stats, but I did get into places when I didn't think I had a chance, so you never know!

Absolutely agree with what you said, sometimes professors or supervisors have packets or requirements for their students to send transcripts and resumes in order to help them write a good letter and be organized when sending them out. Also, SJSU has an extended masters program. However as said above, you have to take a leveling post-bacc program first before you would be considered for grad programs unless it's an extended program.

If I were you, I would keep studying for your gre and then try to gain more experience volunteering somewhere so you have more to write about in your personal statement/talk about in interviews. You can use your second degree to help find opportunities I would think because you have a lot of knowledge! Let me know if I can help in any way, you can do this!

I would agree with the above that you should probably try to retake the gre to get a few more points, try magoosh! If you have a opportunity to gain more experience that you could write about in your personal statement, that would be great too, but I think you might just want to go for trying to retake the gre as a priority.
