Preparing for Clinical PhD Interview
stereopticons replied to nervous_nellie's topic in Psychology Forum
This is great, thanks! One thing that came up for me this weekend was what questions to ask when you are interviewing individually with basically all the faculty in the program? I had 7 separate interviews and by the end, I didn't know what questions to ask and the questions I had prepared were primarily geared toward the person who would be my mentor. Thoughts?- 48 replies

My head hurts from all the eye-rolling. Anyone have any application updates? -

I never have. I would assume most graduate students who agree to host someone have basic necessities (blanket, pillow) for you. If you're driving, sure, bring it, but if you're flying, I wouldn't worry about it. -

Not to mention faculty and administrators do read these boards. If you're trying to put your best foot forward for an interview, this is not the way to do it. -

So unnecessary. And so potentially damaging--the internet is not as anonymous as you think. -
I just had an interview in Rochester and ended up wearing boots (and so did pretty much everyone else).

How much money did you spend on your graduate school applications?
stereopticons replied to chaospaladin's topic in The Lobby
Credit cards, spreading out expenses as much as I can, cutting back on non-essential expenses. This round is easier because this time I have a full time job, but it's still hard. -
But...but...if I'm not overthinking that, then I will have to overthink other things!
-
I did a couple mock interviews with people and was told that if someone asks, all you have to say is "there is nothing in my personal life that would interfere with my commitment to the program." I think I am going to wear mine and just field the questions.

Boston Epi PhD poster, congrats! Was it a mass email?

Right and I'm too scared to check a bag because this WOULD be the time that it gets lost.

I can identify with this. When I was in my masters program, everyone in my cohort got into their PhD program of choice except me and it was incredibly hard. It's not really trivial. You've clearly worked hard for it and rejection is hard even without the social comparison. Hang in there, though. Focus on your interview. It's not over yet.

Now I'm going to worry about this, of course! Argh. Im trying to pack to leave for an interview weekend tomorrow and getting really frustrated trying to fit all my hair products (necessary to tame my ball o' frizz) into TSA's silly regulations.
-
This is probably what will happen to me. I'll start off wearing it down and then put it up because it's bugging me and then forget.
-
I think I'm wearing one down and curly too but I'm worried about frizz, and messing with it like you said. So many things to think about, ughhhh.
-
Crap, I'm headed to Rochester in a few days. Will make sure I am stocked up on hand sanitizer!

@montanem I'm out of upvotes too but this is great and so true. @GunningForGrad yes, you can only like 5 things a day I guess before they put you in forum jail. -
Feel better @8BitJourney!

Most likely scenario seems to be not that she made an error, but that the people who received interview offers don't post here. Sorry :/ -

Was this from a POI? I've never gotten a personalized rejection email unless I had interviewed. Once I did get a rejection email addressed to someone else, though. 27 is a lot but not totally outrageous. I've seen clinical programs interview anywhere from 3-15 people per spot. -
Yep. Just saw one for a program I applied to, and it's like, well, I'm glad you won't be in my cohort.

I'm with you--I haven't gotten any rejections or acceptances from psych programs (I did get one acceptance from an epidemiology program, though). I have three interviews upcoming and while I'm assuming rejections at the places I haven't heard from, I still have nothing concrete. I assume Rutgers is done, but I never heard anything more. -

I support international students! I think people forget what a huge benefit having students from a wide variety of backgrounds is. There are a lot of us who want you here and are offering support to those who now have plans up in the air.
