  1. I'd like to vent about how I just found out that I have bronchitis. I probably had it while I was interviewing so now I'm worried I got all of my interviewers and hosts sick and they are going to reject me because of it. @Bibica now I want tacos.
  2. Looks like people are getting notifications for Hopkins mental health program? My application checklist still says under review and I haven't heard anything. I'm guessing that's not good news.
  3. @angesradieux I'm so sorry you are having to put up with that. You have to make your own decisions and it's not fair to you. Pets are family, of course you're going to factor them in! I won't apply for on campus housing because I'm bringing my cats with me (plus on campus housing is usually more expensive). My mom is similar, I just haven't been giving her any information to work with and I don't live near her, so she doesn't know what I'm wearing. Still, she's like, you need to pick a school that's close to me so you can take care of me. It sounds like you are not in a situation where you can avoid it, and I'm sorry for that. You can always vent here!
  4. Congrats @schizometric! That was the last one you were waiting on, right?
  5. I panicked and didn't turn into work and just drove around and he eventually got tired of following. In retrospect, I should have just turned into the police station at the entrance to my work but I didn't think of it at the time.
  6. I know! It's so scary and awful. After moving to Texas, I had to stop yelling at people and flipping them off because everyone has guns. A couple weeks ago, some guy cut me off while driving and I honked at him and he deliberately pulled over to get behind me and followed me to work. It's terrifying.
  7. I've never dealt with this before but it seems super sketchy. I can see why you were put off. I would have been too! Do you have an advisor or a mentor you can ask? They might know if this is actually a thing. Good luck!
  8. Feel better! I got sick in the middle of my interview travels. Honestly, inevitable because of the perfect storm of plane germs, drastic temperature changes, and stress, but it still sucks. I've been struggling through my interviews as best as possible. Two weeks should be plenty of time to feel better, though!
  9. I have smacked people's cars who have done this. I have also just stopped walking in the middle of the street when someone honked at me. I don't recommend either thing, but this kind of stuff makes me SO mad.
  10. I did mock interviews with as many people as I could find that would let me (and we're in a position to give helpful feedback). And I did them more than once. Too early to say if it made the difference, but I did feel less nervous.
  11. I happen to agree with you. I've been on this forum on and off for five years and I've never seen the moderators do this. Is anyone still waiting for interview invites or are we all waiting for acceptances and rejections now? I think all of my schools that do interviews have extended them at this point.
  12. I emailed the admin at BU earlier in the week and he said interview invites will go out this week. I haven't heard anything other than that though.
  13. Waco is not that bad. I've lived here for three years and really haven't had any problems. If you have specific questions, let me know.
  14. I've been wearing boots. If you're going to be doing any walking outside in the snow, your feet will be cold in flats. I've also just been carrying my purse. It's big enough to hold my folder and other stuff.
  15. I think it means that the GPA they posted with the results (hover over the red diamond) is from a masters rather than undergrad.
  16. Omg I'm in the middle of an interview tour and this is exactly how I feel. I'm so exhausted, physically and emotionally. I think cake, alcohol, and a really long nap will be in order.
  17. If you do that, I'm wearing yoga pants and a hoodie.
  18. I think it's more important to have a program of research that you want to study rather than a specific project idea. For example, it's not enough to say you want to study eating disorders. You need to say something more specific. That is the big change I made in this application cycle. I still don't have a dissertation topic that I specifically am looking at but my research interests are more focused. Does that make sense?
  19. Like @juhidee119, I had few interviews in previous cycles. In fact, I've had more interviews this cycle than all of my previous cycles put together. I have more full time research experience, a first author publication that I didn't have before (though I had publications for all rounds except my first), and I think most importantly, a much more solid idea of what I want to do. FWIW, during every cycle, I always said this would be my last, and I somehow still mustered the emotional energy to go through it again. Rejection happens. It sucks. But keep pushing and you'll make it eventually.
  20. It can be short. I'd probably thank them for their time and say enjoyed speaking with them, and if there is something specific you talked about, mention that (for example, I mentioned a paper I recently published so I'll probably send them that)
