Probably won't reflect poorly but it's definitely a missed opportunity if you decline. You can reschedule a dinner with your boyfriend; you can't reschedule the dinner at the professor's house.

How do you respond to an acceptance email when you're not ready to give them a decision? Like what should I say?

I've responded with an email that expresses how excited I am to receive an acceptance because of Reason A and Reason B (something about the POI and their lab usually, maybe something program related as well if I felt really good about it), and that I will let them know of my final decision as soon as I can. Keep it vague - you technically have until April 15th but I assume you'll probably make a decision before then; just don't promise specific timing if you're waiting on other interviews/offers. 

One thing to consider - if you feel like you have outstanding questions, feel free to ask for grad student's contact info or for another phone call with your POI in the email. More questions may come up as it comes down to making a decision.

That's true, I guess I just wish I knew earlier. But you're right it definitely be foolish to turn it down

I been on a waitlist for a program for approximately a week. How long does it take to know if you will get an offer or a rejection?

The people accepted have until April 15th to decide, so reasonably, you could wait until April.

Good or bad? I have yet to hear anything, I called last week and from all 4 programs I'm still under review.... and one of my friends who applied to PhD got MS instead from one of the schools I applied to and she also got denied by another one I applied to. I have by far better stats all around. What do you guys/gals think?

I saw one person got accepted to the ASU counseling psych PhD program with POI CC. Has anyone else heard since interview day?

I also haven't heard anything. During the interview weekend ,one of the faculty members did mention it would probably be 1+ month until we heard back.

I second this 100%. This could be a great opportunity to make an even stronger impression on the faculty and students (and your POI if she goes!) that could really help you stand out. You can plan an even better romantic night with your boyfriend in the future, hopefully celebrating an acceptance to the program. ?

My dude with the 4 offers who posted in the results section (particularly for Duke).I had two and let go of one in a day. One of the programs I REALLY loved and still had to say no. 

Don’t be a dick. There are people waiting to hear back, potentially from the same places. 

Also if you’re trolling, stop being an a**hole. 

I hope you’re not trying to be a therapist cause the lack of empathy is frightening.

THIS!!!! Seeing all those posts about people holding multiple offers is stressing me out. Having only been waitlisted so far I'm anxious to hear back. Even holding 2 offers I could maybe excuse but 3-4 for more than a day is definitely against guidelines and honestly rude to the programs and other applicants.

Some perspective: there are two full months until April 15. Yes, it sucks to not know early, but it really doesn't make a difference if someone turns down an offer and you get a spot today or in 2 weeks. Realistically, most people are not going to start turning down offers until they've gone on all their interviews, 48 hr rule or no 48 hr rule. The whole April 15 deadline came about so programs couldn't send early offers and pressure students to accept before they had all their offers on the table.

Thank you so much! It's my second choice, so I'm pretty excited! I'm just impatiently waiting to hear back from my first choice, where I'm just hearing crickets..

This. Also, a lot of programs are still finalizing funding and/or make offers of admission separate from funding packages. I'm holding 3 offers right now but that's because none of them have gotten back to me about funding yet. Chill out, guys. If you're going to get off the wait list, it will happen whether it's today or in a month.

Anyone know about Duke Cognitive Neuroscience (CNAP)? POI said I am on his standby list for interview. Seems the primary interview dates are 2/22-2/26. Wondering how things would work for me under this situation.

I'm not sure, but I was told the same thing for Duke CCN. I think it's just a heads up to expect a waitlist.
