As far as I know (from the wiser in this thread, and my Yale-educated advisor at my undergrad), results come out whenever, so best not to worry/think about it. NYU releases them by advisor all the way to March, if not later, and Penn has sent out some interviews but no idea what's going on there. Where did you apply in the UK (if you're ok saying? PM is fine!) I've no idea about Georgetown's History programme, but I was on their campus this summer and it's sick. DC in general is incredible. Their deadline was too late for me, otherwise I would've seriously considered applying, it's just so nice. Good luck! Georgetown is my long shot - i would love to go, but not sure I will get in! In the UK I applied to QMUL (I did my MA and BA there), Oxford on recommendation from a professor there, and then Kent as a backup. So I’ve applied to 7 in total, which now doesn’t feel like enough!! Did you apply to any in the UK?

I’m an applicant from the UK, and just recently finished my MA at a university in London. I specialise in late 18th century immigration and constitutional law. I’ve applied to Georgetown, NYU, Johns Hopkins, UPenn, alongside 3 unis in the UK. I just got a rejection through from JHU and it’s really worried me - you hear so many stories of people being overly ambitious and not getting in anywhere! My undergrad scores were okay, but I finished my MA with a distinction, my GRE scores were decent (q-158, v-161, aw-5.5), and I have some (hopefully!!) pretty good recommendations. I’m starting to worry that I maybe should have applied to some lower ranking programmes. When do you tend to hear back from most universities? Like i said, I’m from the UK, so the US application process seems very elusive here! I’d really appreciate any guidance! Thank you in advance! Broadly speaking, February. I wouldn't concern yourself with "being too ambitious." The objective isn't "get into graduate school." The objective is getting a job after graduate school. TMP and L13 1 1

It sounds like that's the case, unfortunately. If it were one person receiving this email, I could be inclined to think that they were a special circumstance, but since multiple people have reported receiving this email I think it's safe to assume those of us that didn't are not getting in. I suppose there's a slim possibility they're staggering them over today and tomorrow but I don't think the outlook is good for the rest of us. There is always the possibility of a waitlist though, which of course would come later. 5 hours ago, TexasTiger said: Yeah that's what I'm wondering as well 5 hours ago, historygeek said: If we don't get this email today, is it safe to assume rejection? I do not think it is safe to assume rejection just yet. Looking at the reports of informal admission e-mails from Harvard, they seem to stagger them over multiple days, or even over a week. For instance, in 2017, one person posted they got theirs on February 1st, but another posted on Feb. 2nd. This could mean that the person waited a day to post it, but then you have other posters who say they woke up to an e-mail on February 3rd, and then another person on February 7th mentioned they just received an e-mail letting them know they have been recommended. For 2018, people list February 4th, 8th, 9th, and 11th for the dates they received their e-mail. There is still much hope for you all! psstein, potsupotsu, adsperli and 3 others 3 3

Balleu Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) I just got an email from a POI at Northwestern that I've been placed on their waitlist! I'm proud to have made it to this point. At many points, I've had to contend with doubts about being a "nontraditional" student. And this is that department saying that I am qualified and prepared enough to be offered a spot there. Many thanks to everyone here and I'm wishing the best for all you. Edited February 1, 2019 by Balleu Thank you Gotya64, daradara, potsupotsu and 2 others 2 3

Franker89 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Hi everyone! I saw that two people posted about being accepted into University of Chicago this week, but no else has posted anything else. Has anyone else heard from Chicago? Is it safe to assume that if you haven’t heard this week that a reject and/or waitlist is coming?

Is it safe to assume that if you haven’t heard this week that a reject and/or waitlist is coming? I doubt it for a few reasons. First, you never know how the snow storm affected their plans. Second, certain POIs may reach out while others may choose not to. Third, Chicago always seems to roll out admissions in tiers, with the first ones coming out either last week of January or first week of February, and then more people being admitted in mid-February. They seem to keep admitting people all the way until mid-March. They also say as much on their website. The people who received e-mails said it would be official next week, so I recommend waiting until next Friday before you begin to get nervous.
gorgogliante Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Hi all! I have been lurking but want to join the conversation. Was accepted to Duke and am thrilled! Getting ready to visit there in February. Now waiting for Harvard, Michigan, and Georgetown. (Applied to 4 places.) Anxious to hear when Harvard results are "officially" out. I'm an MA alumna of GU--their PhD results are expected by February 15! Right now I'm leaning toward Duke but Harvard could be a game changer... elx and Balleu 1 1

Hope you're doing ok -- you're gonna get to visit Duke really soon! ❤️ Aww, thank you! I'm really okay, any potentially negative feelings are only the result of a slightly bruised ego (and I rarely listen to him, frankly he's kind of obnoxious and his priorities are questionable at best). I'm still very happy about Duke, it was my "best case scenario" to get in there, so I really have no ground to complain or feel bad about anything. I hope you're doing okay with the waiting! I admit to being a little freaked out about that Brown acceptance on the results page though. Much more so than I am about the radio silence from Penn and Harvard. Aaand it's officially February y'all. Welcome to the jungle. Edited February 1, 2019 by Karou
Karou Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Hi @gorgogliante! Fellow Duke admit here. My own potential game changers are Brown and Columbia, but I'm heavily leaning toward Duke as well. I'm sure I'll see you there at the end of the month!

I think my Oxford result is going to come out before the Cambridge MPhil deadline so I'll go for that if I don't get in. Back-up is Leeds, and if all else fails, I'll be staying in York (my BA). MA deadlines are so late here, meaning I can just apply after I find out about the other places, which is great! I'm already mentally preparing for the 2020 application cycle for the PhD though Ccthomas95 1

urbanhistorynerd Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I'm still in utter shock from my big surprise yesterday. Here is hoping everyone hears back from one of the places of their choosing! I'd also like to add just this: I'm a community college graduate, grew up in a union working-class household, and attended a commuter state school that isn't at all prestigious. I worked incredibly hard but I also know that this was partially a numbers game. But to anyone who feels like places like Harvard are out of reach simply because you don't fit the traditional applicants "mold," screw that. Write a good application and hope for the best. Academia is in tough shape but that doesn't mean working-class people and those from non-traditional backgrounds don't have a place there - it is the opposite.
