One of the schools I applied to started notifying admits by phone, and sending rejections via their website. I have heard nothing either way, of course. It's driving me completely mad. If I didn't get in, just tell me so I can move on. It's terrible trying to keep my hopes up.

Hi everyone! I'm kind of new here, but I just had to jump in now. I definitely feel like I'm losing my mind, especially since the one and only school I applied to just sent out acceptances yesterday. I'm hoping that they'll continue to send them out, since I haven't gotten any notifications

Welcome to the madness beachgirl14!

My last two interviews won't notify acceptances/rejections/waitlist for about another two weeks. Waiting for interview notifications was hard, but waiting AFTER for acceptances is torture, especially since for my top choice, they interviewed 10 of us for 3 slots.

Is there any way to deal with this insanity?  I probably have 2 more weeks of waiting and I just don't know how much longer I can deal.

Hello everybody,

I need to ask you for an advice. Today I received a letter from NYU saying that I've been admitted to their MA program. I was shocked, because I haven't expected any news till March. It was a letter from the Office of Graduate Admissions, not from the department, so there's no word on funding yet. What should I do now: wait for a letter from my department or write them myself first? Can't put my thoughts together, honestly...

Catherine_Kiev--which MA program at NYU did you apply to?? I applied to one of their graduate programs and I think I should be hearing from them this week or next week...dying

NYU Steinhardt - Foreign Language Education

Also was it an email or actual letter?

It was an e-mail, I should have specified.

Anyone else wondering if they are secretly monitoring to see how much we log into our application status, and deliberately delaying notification? Haha, a bit paranoid now, I know I have logged on pretty much every day for two weeks now...

I've thought that before, but I'm guessing by my 4 responses that they didn't care that I logged on almost 5 times a day lol!

Maybe its the opposite. They are monitoring how often you check your application status and using that to gauge whether you REALLY want to attend the program. Better get to refreshing  :)

I check mine at least 10 times a day, so I sincerely hope not.

The Results Search on this website is really not helping. I check at least five times a day what results are out for which universities. And seeing all the Ivy League rejects with perfect GREs and two gazillion publications... I know I'm screwed.

And it's the knowing of your screwedness combined with the desperate hope that your application somehow turns out to be special (hahaha!), that is what destroys my brain. Can't they just put me out of my misery already?

Hey Catherine,

I had something similar happen with one of my schools- I got a mailed letter on Saturday from the Grad School, and an email from the department this morning.  If you're anxious, it should be all right to contact the graduate coordinator at your department and ask for more info.  Or you could very reasonably wait a day or two- sometimes it takes that long for things to fall in synch.

Good luck!

Yes, yes I am and if they knew how often I checked they might not admit for fear of insanity.

I just got a new tablet for note-taking and e-textbooks.  The first Internet bookmark?  thegradcafe.com.  That was followed very shortly by the application status update pages of all of the schools from which I have yet to hear back.

Between the insane workload of my final semester of undergrad, the stress of divorce, and the obsession with grad school admissions, I think I deserve a treat for not spending most of my days curled up in the fetal position in a heap of unfolded laundry at the bottom of my closet.

Ugh, getting one acceptance just makes me more anxious to hear from the others.

It'll come and go. I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking so much about the schools that I haven't heard from, but having at least one really puts you at ease.

Absolutely!  What will it be? :)
