  1. Hey, off topic but I want to confirm that these are ASHA requirements for certification and not a prereq for grad school RIGHT?!@!#%!@#$! I swore I saw these ASHA prereqs as a part of some programs prereqs and it gave me a heart attack.
  2. Thank you all for your replies! There are truly many things to consider. I haven't even made a tentative list of programs I want to apply to yet. How is everyone else doing on that?
  3. 15k from undergrad; single. NYU is like 75k excluding housing and living expenses which seems so expensive but living in NY is such a dream of mine! Schools are not my area of interest either so loan forgiveness isn't really something on my mind. I just don't want to come out of school having so much debt and having to make me wonder whether I made the right decision.
  4. Hey there, As we know, a big part of deciding where to attend grad school depends on the cost of tuition. I live in California and I'm all for staying in state but I wouldn't mind leaving either. My question to you all is, how much is too much when it comes to tuition? I'm checking out potential grad programs and checking up how much tuition would be and the numbers seem pretty staggering (plus out of state tuition if I decide to leave CA). At what co$t are you saying, "nah this is too expensive!"? I'd really like some input as I have no idea what a masters in SLP would be "worth" for lack of a better word.
  5. Hey all! I will be applying this cycle as well. Pretty crappy/mediocre grades from my undergrad. Finishing up my postbacc right now (staying close to a 4.0 this time around!) and scrambling to find a place to volunteer. Who would have known its so difficult to find a place that'll take free labor? I've reached out to so many places and many of them have responded to me saying they have no more room for volunteers because they just have so many people on the waiting list.. I'm feeling desperate as it seems that volunteering is a big part of your application and also is a great opportunity to draw from to write your statement of intent.. Does anyone else here not have much volunteering experience in the field? Also.. I started the CSDCAS application today and started inputting my grades but I'm having trouble inputting some classes. For instance French and Spanish classes are not listed as options under "subject". How can I input these things?! Also also.. I haven't even made a list of where I want to apply. Omg the sky is falling.
  6. Hey Jolie! Have you decided where you're going for your grad program? Curious to know since you got into the MedSLP plus the instate CSUN program!
  7. All I can contribute is that their masters program is 3 years and that they have an onsite clinic. One of them is the Center for Children who Stutter. Not sure if this matters but CSUF also has one of the largest local NSSLHA chapters in California and it's gold accredited.
  8. CSU Fullerton is also offering Audiology (HCOM 461) online this summer. Enrollment is through open university so anyone can apply if they fork over the $. EDIT: Ooops it is actually in person not online. I was mistaken because there is an online option this semester!
  9. I would love to hear from anyone at UW in either their COREslp or MEDslp!
  10. I know there are a lot of programs with on campus clinics that are for children but does anyone know which grad schools have emphasis on the adult population?
  11. Congrats! CSU applicants, can you guys post your stats?
  12. Redlands is private right? I remember checking a few weeks back and I think tuition was almost 60k!!
  13. It gets complicated as I transferred from a community college (CC GPA) and then I have my Bachelors (BA GPA) and then now I'm working on my post bacc (post bacc GPA). Don't even know how they will look at it :X
  14. Hey CBG321, Thanks for the input! I am keeping an open mind and will consider out of states but my heart wants to stay in California and possibly SoCal so I can live at home. Which out of state did you get accepted to? I don't think you mentioned and congrats! Hey mcamp, I started looking into EdFind and found 3-4 schools in CA that didn't have "personal interview" listed in their admission requirements. And yeah you make a good point about starting to practice. Interviews will definitely hit me in the future no matter where I'm headed in life. I just feel like avoiding it for as long as I can. HAHA! ON ANOTHER TANGENT. Can someone give me some insight on how GPA is calculated? I have my BA and I'm working on my postbacc right now. Will my GPA just be my postbacc GPA (only 36 units for the actual communication disorder classes and 9 for some extra classes I'm taking to fulfill ASHA requirements)? Or will schools count my last 60 units (postbacc + remaining units that add up to 60 from my BA)? Or are all schools different?
  15. Hey all, I know this time of the year is when everyone is freaking out about receiving interviews and waiting to hear back from schools. Good luck to all the applicants that applied for this coming fall. I'm a prospective applicant for the fall 2017 cycle and I'm currently in a post bacc program. I'm already freaking out about future interviews! I'm terrible at them and just the thought of them makes me pretty nervous. I've heard of a few schools that don't include interviews as part of their decision process and I feel like it would be strategic to apply to a few of those as I feel like my academics are a lot stronger than my interview abilities. On that note.. does anyone know which schools (one's in California would be great but open to those out of CA too!) don't require an interview? So far I only know of: CSUF CSUN Thanks!
  16. Congrats! Does CSULA sent emails out all at once? I've yet to receive anything
  17. I haven't accepted yet.. I've decided to wait on CSULA so I missed CSUF's summer session deadline. Everything is riding on this! If I don't get in I'd have to do the 3 semesters at Fullerton and delay getting my masters by a full year... What's your decision? Are you freaking serious.....
  18. I called them last week and they said end up may up to mid June. Fingers crossed.
  19. Does anyone know when CSULA will get back to us for post bacc? It's taking so long and I need to make a decision about my other post bacc acceptance NOW
  20. I'm working as a behavioral therapists doing ABA with children with autism. Hours are flexible and most of the hours are in the late afternoon because we do in home therapy and the kids don't come back until they are done with school. Pay is okay and it is some valuable experience though it does take a toll on you because you're trying to keep up with these kids. Sometimes it's very frustrating but it's one of those few jobs where you feel very rewarded at the end of the day.
