  1. Its practically impossible to find a chem class without a lab! I know some peers who are taking some nutrition class in the chem department which somehow miraculously counts. I just finished up my physics course at a community college last week. It did NOT have a lab component. Its Conceptual Physics, so emphasis is on you getting the concepts and it's not math heavy. We did many labs in the actual class but there was no separate lab class that we had to enroll it (unlike chem!).
  2. In person. And by clinical I meant like.. behavioral/situation/what would you do in this scenario questions or pertaining to therapy!
  3. Mind sharing a premise of what they asked you? Generic stuff I bet like why our school, why SLP etc? Did they ask any clinical stuff?
  4. Dress shirt and blazer both from H&M and some slacks from J Crew! Flats from Payless
  5. I would hate to be in your guy's shoes right now. This interview sounds so scary.. BUT BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE. I'll be here in my corner worrying about a much less intimidating interview coming up this Friday
  6. Unfortunately every thing I know I've shared in this thread. The applicant I know was from the last cycle (Fall 2016).
  7. Also I remember her mentioning that one of the things they asked her regarded counseling. How you would break it to, speak to, and address parents on their child's communicative disorder. Not sure if this was her writing prompt or if she was asked that as an interview question. I guess just be prepared for behavioral questions!
  8. There was a girl at my school who interviewed and was accepted there from the previous cycle. She mentioned a writing prompt, and group + individual interviews from what I remember.
  9. I've already submitted my FAFSA a few months ago. I dont quite remember the deadline but they're doing new thing this year where they use information from your 2015 taxes instead of your 2016 taxes because they know some people don't file until later in the year.
  10. ^ Just saw this. But I received the supplemental app today. Is this indicative of anything?
  11. Received a request for supplemental application from Rush U today!
  12. I applied to 8. 5 in state and 3 out of state. I felt the need to apply to a boat load because of the competitive nature of California schools. 1) CSU Fullerton 2) CSU East Bay 3) San Diego State 4) CSU Los Angeles 5) San Jose State 6) Rush University 7) University of Washington; MedSLP 8) Portland State
  13. Hey there, The best person to contact about your issue is Dr. Tsao, the graduate program advisor. I just finished up my postbacc there this past month so feel free to message me if you have any questions about the program. From what I remember about the CBEST, they will give you your score and you are able to download it as a PDF. I remember that Dr. Tsao had us just send the PDF to her through email so there wasn't any lag time in between the test being scored and the scores being sent via snail mail. I'm not sure if the requirements have changed this year around though. Good luck!
  14. Hey, wondering how long it took for your academic update to get processed and verified? I submitted new transcripts as soon as I updated it on CSDCAS and its still yellow on the status page. Hopefully it doesnt matter as long as the first batch of transcripts get there... right?
  15. Hey folks, question off to the side here. I had everything verified and got all the green lights last month but updated my grades this past week as my fall grades came in. As so, my green lights went off and they are now waiting for my school's transcripts to get there. The academic update doesn't matter for the deadline though right? As long as my initial batch of transcripts went through and that I have calculated GPAs?
  16. I can only speak for CSUF and SDSU. CSUF requires CSDCAS and CSUMentor. SDSU requires CSUMentor and their only supplemental department application. Once you finish your CSUMentor and they process everything, you'll get an email with a school ID#. You'll get access to their SDSU portal where you'll find a link to their supplemental application as well as check any of the documents that you will need to send in. SDSU does NOT require CSDCAS.
  17. 1) Look up schools you want to apply to and see whether those programs accept out of field applicants (usually 3 year programs) or whether they require you to have the prereqs/postbacc. Most of the time if they require prerequisite classes they will have a list of them on their website. 2) Take the GRE ASAP because most of the schools' deadlines are early/mid January to early February. You need to a lot time for your writing portion to be scored and also time for ETS to send the scores to your desired schools. 3) It's kind of late in the game but you need to figure out who you're going to ask for letters of rec! 4) Don't stress too much about GPA. My undergraduate GPA is 3.28 but i'm doing well in my postbacc courses. Just make sure you ace your spring courses! Plus there is more to you than grades. Figure out what stands out about yourself and develop that into a kickass letter of intent. 5) Sign up for CSDCAS and put all the schools you want to apply to on your account. From there you can check out specific requirements of the school, their statement of intent prompt, other things they want you to submit, the deadline, and etc. Also.. check the application instructions for each specific school on their own website. They're usually have detailed instruction such as... "in addition to CSDCAS you must fill out a supplemental application" or whatever. They'll also tell you where to send transcripts/GRE scores. There's a lot to do so you better get started!
  18. Hi guys, Wondering if anyone has any input on the importance of volunteer experience as a part of your graduate application. I don't have as much volunteer experience in the field as I would like and don't know how much it would affect me as an applicant as I know a lot of other people are going in with massive amounts of hours under their belt. I do have a good amount of research experience though. Any living, breathing examples of someone who got in as an out of field applicant with minimal volunteer hours/opportunities?
  19. Current postbacc student @ CSU Fullerton and the graduate advisor says they admit people mostly 3.7 and up. They do not require GRE or interviews so they strictly look at GPA. I would say you have a slim chance getting in there. Also I'm pretty sure they require more pre-reqs taken than you have currently. They have a list of pre reqs and I believe you need at least 8 (or 6?) of them completed/in progress when you apply.
  20. I ended up emailing a few of the CSU's and their answers were basically to fill out that section to the best of your ability if they are not an academic reference. So their job title would be their "position" and the company they work for would be "institution". Hope this helps someone out!
  21. Hi Folks, This is mainly geared towards people who are applying to California state schools. I am going through CSUMentor and came across the portion that asks for "Academic References". It asks for the institution they teach at and their position. I am applying to a few of these CSU programs and they made it explicitly clear that they will accept 2 letters that are academic and 1 could be from somewhere else (work, volunteer, etc). How am I supposed to fill this part out? Do the references in CSUMentor need to match up with the people I am requesting letters from?! Or do I simply leave this section blank!? SOS!!
  22. Hi Folks, I've come across a question in my process of writing this... is it suppose to be in actual letter format? (Dear Admissions Committee, thanking them for their time for reviewing). I looked @ some samples of letters of intent for SLP at my schools career center and this was how most of them were formatted. I had no idea some people were doing this! Is this the right way or should we stick to essay format?
  23. I had a similar experience this month but it was a letter from my former supervisor at work. I had emailed her about potentially writing me one but didn't stick in any of the concrete details (date they would be due and where they need to be sent, etc). Waited 2 weeks before I sent a follow up email along the lines of.. "Hey i sent you an email about getting letters from you. i know you are super busy and I would be very grateful if you would be willing to do this for me. I can send you a list of the schools and any supplemental information you would need". She responded almost immediately. Sometimes they just get caught up and read the email forgetting to actually respond. A follow up email would definitely be your first step and it would voice "hey this guy/gal is really serious about getting a letter!" If he still doesn't respond then maybe progress to a more invasive approach.. calling his office maybe?
