Rejected Schools asking for which I chose
GradSchoolTruther replied to Pang's question in Questions and Answers
It won't hurt you to tell, since the information will be out there soon enough on department websites. -
You don't need to include the years of attendance on a CV. The year the degree was awarded is good enough.

If you make any profit as a political science grad student, that would be a first.

Why can't you take the position and apply for 2017? It's not as if you're committing to leaving to go back for a Ph.D. at this point.

Reaching out to Professor about Summer Research
GradSchoolTruther replied to anxietygirl's topic in Officially Grads
I would change the attitude of working for free. You are devaluing your skills. -
The resolution only applies to funding and not admissions.

Grad school straight from undergrad? (HIGHER ED.!)
GradSchoolTruther replied to grad_girl's question in Questions and Answers
An Ed.D. is a professional degree, so you'll need that master's. Master's programs in education are usually geared towards those who are working in the field. Look at the times the classes are offered for a guess as to what the focus is. If all the classes are in the evening, count on the program being geared towards professionals. -

The OP and others are being sold on the notion that a graduate degree will lead to a magical new career. Wondering why the bachelor's degree wasn't good enough?

GradSchoolTruther replied to pen2009's topic in Mathematics and Statistics
An online master's doesn't command much respect in the professional world, and hardly any in the academic world. -
Geography: Master's or Straight in to PhD?
GradSchoolTruther replied to WillisF's topic in Geography Forum
You'll need to get over that fear. Almost every academic job requires teaching, so getting experience under your belt is important. -
Geography Masters - Program Fit Versus Professor's Research?
GradSchoolTruther replied to mrs12's topic in Geography Forum
You also don't need to be a clone of your professor. The advisor needs to have a solid understanding of the sub-field, but research focus may vary. -

That means you should have at most, one offer to decide on, right? -
Is this common
GradSchoolTruther replied to universitystudent's topic in Coursework, Advising, and Exams
Graduate students are also treated differently than undergraduate students. You are making it seem that it's such an extra chore to email a paper. In reality, it's a task that would take less than five minutes. -
Depends on the university. Some charge per credit hour, some offer a full tuition rate that includes taking up to a certain amount of credit hours per semester.

You'll never pay those loans back at $100/month, which is not a large sum. Better hope forgiveness is still around in 20 years. As for "it was worth it," why is that, besides you have a degree?

Reject unfunded offer at my top school?
GradSchoolTruther replied to anthrostudentcyn's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Reapplying to the same school might not be the best choice. If they aren't going to fund you now, what will change in the future?
