Fall 2021 Clinical & Counseling PhD/PsyD

Recommended Posts

So I applied to 14 places, was fortunate enough to get 6 interviews, and now it's looking like I might not get into any of them...I've been waitlisted for LSU and EMU, but rejected from the program that was a PERFECT match all around - research, mentorship, externship opportunities - so I'm really surprised and disheartened that perhaps I don't have what it takes to work with the niche population that I want to work with. I apologize for the negative/anxious post; I just needed a platform to vent and just express these feelings because I know that so many of us are going through the same emotions. Good luck everyone :)

Here’s some good progress - I was browsing clinical psych PhD program websites and saw that the university of Arizona already waived the GRE for this upcoming cycle. Hoping other programs follow suit. “GRE - Due to COVID-19 considerations, GRE scores and GRE subject scores are not required for the Fall 2021 application, and will not be considered in our selection process (Updated 02/23/2021)” https://psychology.arizona.edu/academics/apply-graduate-program

Anyone know any other programs besides UF and SBU that are participating in the GRE removal this upcoming cycle?

I'm right there with you - I was waitlisted at a program that seemed absolutely perfect for me and my interests, and it made me second guess my whole applicant package. I keep thinking if I couldn't get into that lab and that program, how the heck do I have a chance anywhere else? Perseverance is really the name of the game, but it's so hard to be persistent after being let down so many times. Crossing my fingers for you; acceptances off the waitlist are common, but I know it's disappointing to be rejected from our dream program. ❤️

I'm in almost the exact same situation. 6 interviews, 2 waitlists, and I don't feel confident about getting into any of them. I'm feeling really sad about this cycle and my abilities rn. This process sucks :( I hope things start looking up for us all soon

Just want to say that I totally feel you, was in this exact position last year (10 apps, 7 interviews, and nothing in the end but a few waitlists and a semi-offer from a PI I had nothing in common with) and it looks like the same might happen this year (applied to 5 this year, 3 interviews, 1 rejection post-interview and still waiting on the other 2 but it feels bleak lol). I also have a really niche research area of interest and it has been a huge hindrance for me (a lot of the feedback I've gotten post-interviews has been related to that), but I'm still determined to do it. But I do feel very hopeless, discouraged, and lost most of the time. If you ever want to vent, feel free to DM :)

Y'all I'm so frustrated. My interview was a month ago. I emailed prof a little over a week ago, no response. Emailed DCT yesterday, no response. I don't know what else to do. I'm assuming rejection because two people have posted acceptances. What else can I do to get a response?

Has anyone heard from Harvard University or University of Pennsylvania for their clinical psych PhD programs?

It's been absolute radio silence from both of them.

I haven't seen anything on GC either.

Anyone else feel like that's a little strange?

Hi have you heard from them? It's been over two weeks. I haven't heard anything yet

I was notified of my waitlist status via a phone call the Saturday after the interview and I know someone else was too. I’d reach out to the program coordinator. Best of luck!

I thought UPenn was not taking clinical psych PhD applications this year? Correct me if I'm wrong! Curious

Is there a better chance I'll get in through a waitlist from internal faculty, or is there a better chance my PI (who is external faculty) will be able to make me an offer, who is first in line to make an offer after all internal faculty have exhausted their waitlists?
