IRToni Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Just got a reply from Harvard: "We hope to have decisions available during the first week of March." Seems like the spreadsheet was right about Harvard Government. Not holding my breath on that one anyway... cane14 1
IR IR IR PhD Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I feel like calling up PENN and reminding them they should be sending my acceptance letter today! Better give me some summer funding too! ajaxp91, steedyue and boazczoine 3
packrat Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Anyone have any sense of when MIT might release its decisions? Also, do they really snail mail them? From looking at past results, it seems to be a mix of snail mail, email and phone calls. I think it's a little weird that depts don't have a firm policy on this...
boazczoine Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I feel like calling up PENN and reminding them they should be sending my acceptance letter today! Better give me some summer funding too! Definitely call and ask for a timing update. And then tell the rest of us immediately what they say--thanks so much for taking one for the team like that. IR IR IR PhD and o.j. 2
IRToni Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Anyone else heard from UCSD? Did you hear? I think they only released interdisciplinary decisions so far...
boazczoine Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 No, you go. Out of sheer paranoia now after hearing from a few folks on PM, I want to make sure everyone knew I was kidding--I'd never insult anyone's interests/an interesting and important field of study. Honestly, the only reason I didn't include a winky face or other indicator is because it seemed out of the realm of possibility that anyone would think someone would be so rude.

FWIW (and I deliberately steered clear of that conversation, so) I was pretty sure it was a joke! That said, I think one can never underestimate the capacity for human rudeness.

Should have known that dry sense of humor + text-based medium + DGS = terror. No offense taken at all, just couldn't pass up the opportunity for a good one-liner.

NYCBluenose Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) I know I'm only deluding myself into believing there's still hope, but what are our concrete reasons for thinking UC Berkeley admissions are done? I know there were a ton of admits on the 5th, so its definitely plausible that they're all done, but it looks like UCLA has been continuing to notify admits here and there despite an initial burst. Has anybody gotten an actual rejection or heard from the DGS that there will be no more admits? Thanks! Edited February 6, 2014 by NYCBluenose

I actually did think you were kidding back but after I heard some responses from people on PM referencing your response, thought I'd clarify. At least this served as a nice distraction from waiting for responses. Something the 3 hour conference call I've been on certainly hasn't been able to accomplish.
cupofnimbus Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) Congrats to the Cornell admit! ETA: Oh, goodness, it's eerie how quickly I pick up on the lingo... Edited February 6, 2014 by cupofnimbus
xuejia Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Uh oh, more green lights... I sense lots of freaking out coming... That said, congrats, to Cornell, Iowa, and others!
wokeem Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I can claim a Cornell acceptance!!! This is such a tremendous relief after the presumed rejections of Berkeley, UCLA, and Chicago. I was starting to look up stuff on Americorp in the event that I got across the board rejections. I'm crying my eyes out, this is such a good feeling! kal5, steedyue, rchlm_618 and 5 others 8

Has anybody gotten an actual rejection or heard from the DGS that there will be no more admits? Thanks! I recently switched to this thinking. I mean, UCSD has starting sending out rejections. I haven't gotten one of those (yet, knock on wood) and I'm certainly not assuming that means I'm in. So, if you haven't heard back, it means exactly that, you have no idea. Just because you were not part of the first blast does not change anything! On a semi-related note, I also convinced myself I'm most qualified candidate in the history of the world (despite a few 'traditional' flaws like a terrible GPA and GRE scores...psh) so it would be totally their loss regardless. Good luck fellow holdouts. NYCBluenose 1
EKLong Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Congratulations Cornell admits!! Assumed rejection from yet another program... This has been a rough week
TheGnome Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) Thanks a lot for the kind words folks. If it wasn't for the Rochester and Wisconsin rejections, I would have been convinced by now that the adcoms are reading someone else's file but sending the acceptances to me instead of that poor fellow. Then I get these rejections and I say - Yeap, that's me. Congrats to Cornell admits! Extra kudos for wokeem!! Nice job sir/ma'am! A lot of nice green lines on the board this week. I think I am 5/7 on my predictions for this week. The only remaining ones are Michigan and Notre Dame. Edit: Edited for wokeem & inability to upvote Edited February 6, 2014 by TheGnome
xuejia Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 High five wokeem! Breathe a little easier now.
