First rejection today from UBC in Vancouver

I'm sorry to hear that.  I am expecting to get mine soon.  I did not receive an interview invite, so I know I will not be attending.  For me, this is 50% of the places I have applied this year.  So, I know the feeling of disappointment. Hang in there!

anybody know why rejection emails come at different times? I haven't received one from UBC but no interview invites, so I'm not sure why I haven't heard back yet (rejection or otherwise).

I’m not too sure about UBC but generally speaking, programs will sort through the applications, and have a “rolling process” where they will interview their “top choice” applicants first. If they are not able to fill all the spots, then they’ll move on to a second batch of students they would like to interview. With regards to rejections, if the admissions committee knows that an applicant is a hard no, they will send out rejection notices. Hope this helps!

Applied to Queens, Western, Waterloo, McGill - heard absolutely nothing. Assuming rejection?

McGill is late game though so it may be too early to say, but yeah, I think Western is out for me at this point...my last hope is Universite de Montreal, thankfully I'm francophone, fingers crossed :)

During the Open House, you may end up meeting the Director of Clinical Training in your area (C or CD), and some other faculty members. If you haven't spoke to or met your POI yet, you will on that day. You may also meet some of the grad students in the program or in your prospective labs. The atmosphere is quite warm and welcoming, as it is meant to showcase the program and the perks about being a graduate student at York. Generally, I haven't heard any students complain or leave feeling anxious after the Open House as the meetings are quite positive. It often bumps up York on their list of schools too ;)

Thanks again Jay's Brain. Sounds like a very positive time at the open house. I have read somewhere that the open house invites are way above those who will be actually accepted, so getting an invite is not necessarily a confirmation of an offer? Do offers go out afterwards? I have not even been invited to the open house so I should stop getting ahead of myself but the waiting is killing me. Anyone else heard from York yet for Clinical?

That is true - but then POIs also invite multiple students, with the same understanding that not all of the students who come to the Open House will end up choosing the program. So programs invite more than they end up taking. I've heard through the grapevine that some Clinical faculty have not sent out their invites yet!

You are awesome for keeping our hopes up! Thanks. praying......and waiting! Good luck everyone

Not sure if anybody here applied to Regina, but if there are, has anybody heard back yet?? Granted, applications were due just about 2 weeks ago so it might be early yet, but seems like historically, people hear back around this time..... ?

My labmate had an interview with Regina. I think she was contacted by her POI there but I’m not sure.

Would you happen to know who her POI is and DM me??

Hi everyone --- I was invited to interview at UVic next week. In addition to the interview with my PI, I have what they call clinical interviews scheduled. Does anyone know what I can expect from the clinical interviews. Thanks!

Hey All,

Would it be appropriate to contact schools and ask about the status of your application?

I would like to just contact my POIs and the school and know if I am rejected instead of waiting for that god-awful email.

Please advise

Hey! I came in for an interview at a separate university the other day and was asked a number of research/ethical/clinical questions. I think you can expect questions like "what interpersonal/ethical challenges have you experienced when dealing with clients and how did you resolve that?" "from a clinical perspective, what do you think is your strongest point?" "if you bump into a client at party, should you say hi to him/her? what possible consequences do you think might arise from this situation?"

for a lot of these "clinical" questions, it's hard to get a straight wrong answer. A lot of them are justifiable through reasoning, you just have to show that you are capable of thinking ahead and considering the potential consequences that come out of your responses. the professor interviewing me also said that he uses these questions to see how well i respond to feedback- while i was answering them, he was throwing me a lot of other "but what if this happens" statements. I suppose he was just checking to see if i was able to incorporate his input and change my answer accordingly. I was also asked what my theoretical orientation was in terms of interventions (e.g., CBT, human-centred, etc.)

Alternatively, while preparing for that interview, i came across this pdf <http://www2.tulane.edu/sse/psyc/news-and-events/archive/upload/InterviewQuestions.pdf>. I found it really helpful and I hope you do too. Even if a lot of the questions listed aren't asked, I think you'll find that, while trying to answer these questions, a lot of the responses you have are adaptable to the questions you're going to be asked during the interview day.

Hope that helps! Good luck!!

Hey! I was actually speaking to another grad student about this the other day and she actually encouraged this type of correspondence. She even managed to sneak in some more interviews by personally reaching out, so i'd definitely say worth a try!

I think this is the best way to check on the status of your application if you feel like you need to! You don't want to seem to your POIs like you lack patience. I know how painful the wait is. I just feel like emailling probably won't help and if anything it just makes you seem impatient. A lot of schools are sending out interview invites this week, so keep your fingers crossed!

Hey Annie,

I absolutely agree - I am more looking to email the schools that have pretty much sent out their invites. I looked on those respective portals and it says they are still under review whereas others have received a "rejection" so I just want to make sure.
